Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is easy to use, especially for individuals who are not familiar with coding and has security built-in.""Azure Data Factory is a great solution for orchestration.""The solution's technical support is great since, in our company, we get answers to most of our questions, and most of our queries get resolved with the help of the documentation itself.""Azure Stack provides us with computational power. We also get an option to have it with Azure Cloud, which is beneficial. We don't need to buy any other extra servers or any virtual machines with high-end graphics.""The solution pairs well with other MS services and saves us a lot of money.""The solution is cheap and helps consolidate infrastructure to a converged space compatible with medium customers.""Azure Stack is a good product because it's flexible and easy to work with.""The most valuable features are that it is a Hybrid, and we can easily integrate with the Microsoft Public Cloud."

More Azure Stack Pros →

"The tool is simple, stable, and easy to upgrade. It also requires few resources to manage, which simplifies our work. The solution's ease of upgrading is its valuable feature. AHV, provided by Nutanix, is excellent in performance and ease of use. It's based on an open-source product called KVM, which I also use for other services.""The administration console, automation, and the first cluster are all valuable features.""Data locality provides super-fast data access and ultra-low latency.""It offers very useful data protection.""It has enterprise data services with consolidated storage data protection and disaster recovery. One valuable aspect is its efficiency as a robust platform. There is an ease of managing all processes. The data recovery process is remarkably fast. It’s a stable solution. The product is scalable. It provides high-speed live migration capability.""In the world of IT operations, there is a lot of noise. Traditionally, systems would generate a great deal of alerts, events, and notifications, often leading to the operator either a) not seeing critical alerts since they are lost in the noise or b) disregarding the alerts/events.""Hyper-convergence is the most valuable feature for me as it allows me to scale the hardware according to project requirements.""The virtualization environment is now much easier to manage and maintain, there is only one vendor to call in case of issues and one single console to manage everything."

Cons
"It might be beneficial if Microsoft could introduce a more cost-effective data lake feature within their product.""The price of the OCR could be more competitive with Google.""Our only issue with Azure Stack so far is that the networking is very closed. You need to have the extended LAN to connect the internal LAN to the Azure Stack. Any connection we have needs site-to-site VPN connectivity instead of an internal connection, so Azure Stack has room for improvement in the networking area.""If you look at the documentation set, there are rims and rims of it. You try to drive something from the console, and it's quite complex. It's not it's not easy and straightforward. You've gotta sit down and review it, look at the documentation, and work your way through it. It's not intuitive.""The solution could be less expensive.""They can provide more integration with other services, such as components, open source, because I use these services.""Azure Stack could be improved with more integration, governance tools, monitor tools, and lift and shift tools.""Azure Stack's pricing could be improved."

More Azure Stack Cons →

"It would be great if they could improve the GUI features.""Nutanix has a complex infrastructure, we have customers that consider VMware instead. Additionally, the performance could be better.""While their overall Nutanix Bible is good, they are lacking good descriptions for particular scenarios that might be helpful to many users.""Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure can be improved in terms of the sizing of the solution.""The ability to create clusters faster would be nice to see in a future release.""The compatibility and integration of Nutanix Acropolis AOS could be improved. For example, we have a WAF application firewall and it does not work on this solution. Not all the OS's run on AOS. You need to have a newer version of an operating system if you want Nutanix to perfectly run all the different options.""They need to improve the look and feel of the interface. The functionality is fine, but the appearance could be better.""The scalability of Nutanix Acropolis AOS needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The cost of Azure Stack is much cheaper than VCE."
  • "Pricing is always a hot topic, so the pricing can always improve."
  • "We are satisfied with the pricing."
  • "It is in the medium range cost-wise. For each component, I sort of buy licensing. Each component has its licensing fee by the number of users or by size."
  • "The pricing is very expensive."
  • "In terms of costs, it is a standard price, and there is no negotiation."
  • "Azure Stack is expensive."
  • "Azure Stack is cheaper than AWS."
  • More Azure Stack Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Able to grow with smaller, more linear increments of investment"
  • "The basic license that comes with the box allows basic virtualization features but advanced automation features would require an upgrade of licenses."
  • "I know Nutanix and VxRail have similar prices and licenses. Nutanix is a go-ahead if AHV is used as hypervisor because it is already embedded in the price."
  • "While cost may seem higher than your traditional 3-tier architecture, you need to look at the bigger picture. You're not just buying hardware here. You're buying a complete environment."
  • "Setup cost is minor, pricing is quite a bit (we have a 7-node-cluster for about 450K EUR with 2 vGPU-nodes for Citrix) but that includes hardware, software, and support."
  • "The price is good but I think there is still room for improvement on the price."
  • "Extra features should not be so expensive. We would love to be able to use or even just try some of the extra features without having to buy them. Buying those features is just as expensive as buying vSphere licenses, so the cost savings is nullified."
  • "Work close with your InfraTeam and discuss with Nutanix the best way to achieve sizing and price that are right for you."

I urge all to look past the hot air and hype frenzy that are going on, because in the end, the HC platforms have to be aligned and congruent to the organization’s data architecture and business plans. The announcement of Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant on Integrated Systems (read hyper convergence) has put Nutanix as the leader of the pack as of August 2015. Clearly, many of us get caught up because it is the “greatest feeling in the world”. However, this faux feeling is not reality because there are many factors that made the pack leaders in the Magic Quadrant (MQ). First of all, the MQ is about market perception. There is no doubt that the pack leaders in the Leaders Quadrant have earned their right to be there. Each company’s revenue, market share, gross margin, company’s profitability have helped put each as leaders in the pack. However, it is also measured by branding, marketing, market perception and acceptance and other intangible factors. Secondly, VMware EVO: Rail has split the market when EMC has 3 HC solutions in VCE, ScaleIO and EVO: Rail. Cisco wanted to do their own HC piece in Whiptail (between the 2014 MQ and 2015 MQ reports), and closed down Whiptail when their new CEO came on board. NetApp chose EVO: Rail and also has the ever popular FlexPod. That is why you see that in… Read more →
