We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is the IPAMs, which provide visibility into all the IP addresses on the network.""One of the key features enabling us to operate at our current scale is robust automation.""Adaptive DNS's best feature is DDoS protection, which stops malware and network security attacks.""This inherent stability, derived from its Linux-based architecture, provides a well-established and reliable platform.""The solution is scalable in multiple ways.""As a defense contractor, we must meet many compliance standards regarding logging, configuration, and administrative access. BlueCat is one of the few products that combines all the compliance components in a secure, reliable solution.""BlueCat Integrity provides us with flexibility and visibility that we did not have before.""I've been impressed by BlueCat's performance and user-friendly GUI."

"Before IPAM (IP Address Management) came into the picture, every user had to depend on an Active Directory engineer to get an IP assigned. With Infoblox IPAM, there's automation or auto assignment of IP addresses which is a valuable feature. There's also the capability of storing many networks in one place through the solution. Infoblox IPAM solved the major issue of needing an Active Directory engineer to assign an IP.""For me, the best feature of Infoblox IPAM is that you can use BloxOne DDI which means you can manage everything from the cloud and have security policies as well. I also like that Infoblox IPAM is plug-and-play.""Infoblox IPAM provides visibility into what's on your network and helps fingerprint devices based on the OS, manufacturer, and other things along those lines.""We can specify the availability of subnets when we create them.""One of the most valuable features of this solution has been DNS security. It has a solid foundation for building DNS, DHCP, and Advanced Threat Prevention.""The features we found the most valuable were being able to handle DHCP scopes and handing out DHCP leases. We weren't doing some of the things that we can do, such as DNS query rate limiting. Our usage was pretty standard. We wanted to be able to track our IP addresses to create DNS entries and then create DHCP and manage DHCP scopes. We used the standard features the most.""The graphical user interface is very user-friendly and simple to use. It is very simple to use if you have never used it before.""This is a DDI solution and having one management control has been most useful."

Cons
"During our testing phase, we encountered some issues with Active Directory and DNS reverse lookups.""However, it does not offer robust support for high availability failover with different subnets, especially if the servers are located in different data centers and belong to distinct IP networks.""The IPAM dashboard could be enhanced to display more information and provide data analysis features.""Adaptive DNS only supports AWS for network automation and cloud computing and would be improved if it also supported other options like Azure or Google Cloud.""The technical support is slow and has room for improvement.""The solution does not export reports in a comprehensive format.""Usability needs to be better.""One crucial area for development is IPv6 support."

"Infoblox IPAM has improved and is better, but it needs to have an external GSLB functionality. Currently, the solution has a GLSB functionality for internal appliances, but for an external user, that functionality doesn't exist. Infoblox IPAM also needs some improvement on its threat engine and RPZ policies, or DNS firewall or DNS policies. An additional feature I'd like to see in Infoblox IPAM is zero-touch provisioning in terms of the appliances. Currently, there's zero-touch provisioning for cloud-based devices, but for physical appliances in branches, there's none, so you still have to do some configurations. For example, if you have existing DNS infrastructure and you need to set up Infoblox IPAM in new branches, and you need more appliances, you should be able to just plug the solution into the network, and there shouldn't be any manual interference required.""The only room for improvement in Infoblox IPAM is its compatibility and flexibility with IPv6. There's been an issue transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6, and though Infoblox is in the process of resolving the issue, it would be better if the team could come up with a solution in a quicker timeframe. Better transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6 is what I'd like to see in the next release of the solution.""CLI needs to be user-friendly. There should be an option to commit changes.""From an IPAM standpoint, DHCP is an area that needs to be improved.""An area for improvement is IPAM's smart folders, which can be slow to access and would benefit from a search feature.""The solution is not easy to use; the GUI and CLI are challenging to use, limiting end-user capability. We can't use Linux terminal features with Infoblox, as it struggles to detect and troubleshoot problems. We generally use troubleshooting tools like tcpdump in our network security area and we can use that in Infoblox with limited features.""When we do a host entry, it also reflects in the lookup. We should be able to filter that part. If we do only the A and PTR records, we need to reflect only that part in the lookup.""When we use the forwarders or when we're trying to connect with the internet, sometimes there are issues and the publishing time is longer."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Adaptive DNS's price depends on your network ranges, the services you want, and the level of support you require."
  • "Overall, it's a decent price for the product. There are other vendors that have support models and costs that are, sometimes, double what Bluecat charges."
  • "They're competitive. The way they run their model is good. Could it stand some tweaking? Sure. There are some items there. One of the things I looked at in the recent past was their container solutions. You have to pay for licensing to use their containerized platform, but the licensing doesn't include the container licensing itself. I'd love to be able to have one big package per se."
  • "Compared to other solutions, BlueCat Integrity offers a competitive price."
  • "BlueCat Integrity meets our expectations and aligns with our budget forecast."
  • "Overall, I would say that it is priced fairly, though perhaps a bit on the high side."
  • "We paid around $5,000 per year for SolarWinds, and now we pay around $20,000 per year for BlueCat, but we have less downtime and fewer issues with DNS and DHCP."
  • "While BlueCat falls on the expensive side, its exceptional customer service and consistent quality justify the cost."

  • "The price of the solution is reasonable compared to competitors, such as Akamai."
  • "The licensing cost for Infoblox IPAM depends on your usage and also depends on your term plans, for example, you may want it for three months, six months, or only for seven days. I don't remember the exact licensing cost, but it depends on your organization's structure and how many networks you are going to need."
  • "The cost depends on the scale at which we're deploying it. It's an annual subscription that ranges between $1,000 and $2,000."
  • "We purchase yearly licenses, and I don't know the exact price as I'm not involved in the finance or sales departments. Infoblox is one of the more expensive products in the DDI environment, so I would say that for organizations looking to combine DNS, DSTP, and IP management with security features, the solution is worth it. However, for organizations only looking for an IP management tool, for example, many more affordable options are available."
  • "Infoblox IPAM is a licensed product, and my company pays for it yearly. It depends on the licensing model you choose because right now, the solution can also be subscription-based, specifically the cloud version, but the traditional licensing model for it is one that's paid yearly. The cost would depend on the organization. I know how much my company pays for Infoblox IPAM, but I won't disclose that information. If your company has $10,000,000 or $20,000,000, for example, and you need stability, then I'd say the solution is worth it. If your company is a startup, then the solution may not be worth it, but it would still depend on the ability of your company because Infoblox IPAM is one of the costlier solutions in the market."
  • "They were expensive. They were known to be expensive. In general, they used to at least try to encourage you to upgrade to hardware every three years. Infoblox had a reputation as being one of the better solutions but also one of the more expensive solutions, whereas VitalQ was definitely a much more affordable solution. With Infoblox, anytime you replace hardware, there would also be the cost of the hardware upgrade. So, besides the software licensing fee, there were also hardware maintenance and hardware upgrade fees. I would rate it a 3 out of 10 in terms of pricing."
  • "I rate Infoblox IPAM’s pricing a seven out of ten, since their price is up there."
  • "Infoblox IPAM is a very expensive solution and it should improve. The solution is subscription-based, and the payments can be monthly or yearly. There are additional costs for more features, and the exact cost depends on the features you're using."
