We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We have had developers produce code later than we wanted to, but we've had some other stuff that was dependent on that. So what we were able to do was virtualize these assets and then go forward with our developer and not have to wait for these additional services to be available.""Scalability has actually worked well and we are able to bring it to multiple environments.""You can create virtual services from a live recording or convert raw traffic into request/response pairs.""The ability to do parallel development and testing reduces our costs for duplicating environments, improving the productivity of our developers, and bringing products faster to market.""There are several areas that are easily configurable.""I think the pricing is quite fair because this solution provides a lot of functionalities, and is quite stable.""The most valuable feature is that it supports so many protocols. We, being a large bank, have almost all the protocols, and it supports all of them, so that's one good thing.""Helps us to remove barriers that we have with dependencies on services that we don't own, or services that don't even exist yet."

"The utmost importance lies in the performance of the application.""The solution scales well.""The solution has some good scanning features.""It clearly makes it easy to test APIs based on the SOAP protocol. We are a logistics company, and we have lots of tracking calls coming in. We provide APIs for tracking services, and it makes sense for us to use SoapUI to test them thoroughly.""It's a very simple solution to use.""We used to write our own solutions, from small scripts to task web services, so this saves us thousands of hours.""SoapUI is uncomplicated and user-friendly.""The most valuable features are that it is user-friendly, it's easy to use and easy to teach to others."

Cons
"More examples of portal-based virtualization.""I really want to see more of the "express" kind of model, where you get a little bit for free. I'd love to be able to see you be able to edit and author tests without having to be connected to a licensed server. And then, if you want to go and execute tests, then you go and connect to the server... I think it would unblock people to be able to do a lot more work from home or from remote places, where they can't really connect to the server.""The cost is an area that needs improvement. There are a couple of other tools which provide support for performance testing with the base version itself, but Broadcom needs a separate component to support virtualization for performance testing. This is a costly component.""I would rate the tech support a nine out of ten. They need more knowledge about the connectivity to DevOps orchestration.""We had to implement an external service catalog. We put it in ServiceNow. I would like to see an integrated service catalog.""I'd like to see more of the newer technologies included in there, looking mainly from a mobile perspective, possibly, so you can virtualize some of the aspects that we're going to be doing for mobile testing.""CA actually releases a new version every year. We had issues with the upgrade prior to the latest one.""I would like to have more flexibility towards the mainframe virtualization and also in JDBC virtualization."

More Broadcom Service Virtualization Cons →

"SoapUI Pro is a little heavy due to the number of features. Previously it was not that heavy. Now the tool is too heavy, they should work on fixing this issue because until your system has lots of resources, you won't be able to use it seamlessly. The performance of the application itself could improve.""Could integrate the graphing module for load testing.""There aren't any plugins for UI automation. You need to make a custom code and download a job to put into the libraries. If it were panelized, then it would be straightforward. It should be in a panel of the tools, so you can add those tools as your test step in your test cases.""The UI could be a bit more flexible.""The documentation needs to be improved because the interface is not easy for a first-time user.""It is limited to scope and risk services only. It does have some support for JMS, but it is not out-of-the-box; you have to do some tweaks here and there.""Automation features are not user-friendly.""Stability has been an issue for us. It needs to be looked at and made a bit better."

  • "The cost is not that bad."

  • "My understanding is that the pricing is okay, however, that's taken care of by our procurement team. It's around $5,000 for three years."
  • "The Pro version can be expensive for some companies. There are no costs in addition to the licensing fees."
  • "We have team members who are working in shifts, and it is not possible for us to utilize a single license on a single piece of hardware so that multiple team members can use it. We have to take out multiple licenses for each team member."
  • "SoapUI Pro is open source but it has a subscription-based model which involves some more features. At the moment we are using the free version. The Pro version requires a license, and it is an annual license to use it."

  • "It is free of charge."

    Overview

CA Service Virtualization acts as a catalyst for DevOps by simulating constrained or unavailable systems across the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This allows developers, testers and performance teams to work in parallel to accelerate app delivery, as well as to “shift-left” the app testing to improve application quality. CA Service Virtualization was previously known as LISA, the product from the ITKO acquisition.

For REST, SOAP and other popular API and IoT protocols, SoapUI NG Pro provides the industry's most comprehensive and easy-to-learn functional testing capabilities. Based on open core technology proven by millions of community members, SoapUI NG Pro helps you ensure that your APIs perform as intended, meet your business requirements, timeframes, and team skill sets right from day one.
