We performed a comparison between Check Point NGFW and SonicWall NSa based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."It can expand easily."
"It is easy to use and performs very well."
"It increases security posture and is helpful for firewall reporting, intrusion protection, web filtering, and SD-WAN implementation."
"It's very good and very stable for businesses. It works very well."
"It's very easy to set up, it's very easy to make policies and, for an organization, that means you don't need IT expert in firewalls. You just need to have somebody who knows a little bit of IT, and that's it. With other products, you need someone with a "Masters" degree in firewalls."
"The response is very quick and they can visually resolve our problems in a short period."
"The initial setup of Fortinet FortiGate was straightforward."
"It is a safe product."
"The centrally managed firewalls are great."
"Being able to search in clear text is simple for the customer and for troubleshooting an environment."
"Check Point has a centralized console that makes it possible to manage all the deployed equipment. It also has a built-in VPN service that lets users connect through VPN to our organization, which facilitates teleworking while cutting off unauthorized access to the organization's internal network."
"We like the centralized management for configuring multiple firewalls. It also gives us the Antivirus, threat prevention, and vulnerability tests. These four features protect the environment with security checks. Vulnerability tests allow us to configure changes that can protect the environment."
"Remote access with a secure workspace provides a clear separation between the client and corporate network."
"The small business hardware device was powerful and easy to set up."
"In a single bundle we have the all solutions we need - like application/URL filtering, and threat emulation/extraction."
"The Check Point architecture and packet are very good."
"With the deployment of the SonicWall NSA solution, we never suffered a problem due to invasion or contamination of any kind."
"SonicWall NSa's most valuable features are the ease of configuration and the GUI."
"It allows us to block applications, i.e., websites by application type category. It is far more capable than content filtering alone."
"I like this solution because we are focused on VPN and have many brands that need to link a VPN and have security, like ransomware, spyware, and basic protection."
"SonicWall's sales support is much better than other vendors'."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is its ability to work like any other firewall."
"The DPI-SSL is the solution's most valuable aspect. It's handy."
"The most valuable feature of SonicWall NSa is the control aspect of the solution."
"They can do more tests before they release new versions because I would like to be more assured. We had some experiences where they release something new and great, but some of the old features are disabled or they don't work well, which impacts the product satisfaction. The manufacturer should be able to prove that everything works or not only that it might work. This is applicable to most of the other services, software, and hardware companies. They all should work on this. We cannot trust every new release, such as a beta release, on the first day. We wait for some comments on the forums and from other companies that we know. We always wait a few weeks before we use the updated version. They should also extend the VPN client application, especially for Linux versions. Currently, it has an application for Linux devices, but it doesn't work the way we want to connect to the VPN. They use only the old connection, not the new one. They have VPN client applications for Windows and Mac, but they can add more useful features to better manage the devices and monitor the current health of each device. Such features would be helpful for our company."
"The support is the main thing that needs to be improved."
"It needs to improve its ISP load balancing."
"There are some complex administration tasks in their administration portal. That needs to be improved."
"I'm not sure if it's something that they already have or are developing something, however, we need some dedicated features for container security."
"I could not configure sFlow from the FortiGate graphical user interface. I realized that the sFlow configuration is available only from the CLI, and discovered that sFlow is not supported on virtual interfaces, such as VDOM links, IPsec, or GRE."
"It should provide better visibility over the network and more information in the form of reports for the end users. Its installation should also be easier."
"I would suggest that Fortinet add sandboxing to their solution."
"The firewall can improved to make it more user-friendly."
"Sometimes there are security bugs, which is frustrating."
"One area that they should prioritize is enhancing security gateways for protection against cyberattacks."
"We'd like an option that can convert other vendors' NGFW configurations to supported Check Point NGFW config for ease of migration."
"Reporting has to be improved."
"Check Point NGFW could improve by introducing machine learning and more modeling dividing the way they manage the ports. However, they have evolved over the last year."
"The solution could improve by keeping more up-to-date with technology. For example, if Amazon releases something in the security field, Check Point should have integration or adoption of this feature a bit faster than it is today. Sometimes we can hear a lot of the marketing information about an attractive feature, which we would like to have, but the feature will be released in two years. This timeframe should decrease."
"I would like for them to develop the ability to manage a cloud firewall with the same console. That would be very helpful."
"The scalability is something that should be improved."
"There are a few areas that need improvement including the VPN, user management, and reporting."
"I feel that the SSL VPN client software needs a lot of improvement."
"It's very hard to manage this box. You really need a lot of skills to operate the SonicWall. There is training and the like, but it's just hard to manage. Even if you have the knowledge, there are too many options. The menus are not very clear, where you should find the information."
"We're not particularly fond of the way it generally performs. We are finding ourselves rebooting often. There are freeze-ups and that kind of thing. The stability needs to improve exponentially."
"One issue with the solution is that no authorization or authentication features exist."
"We have used other solutions such as pfSense and Linux native firewalls. I prefer SonicWall NSa but if you are going to use something for an enterprise you need another solution."
"The security standards for space and point of view should be improved so that the solution deploys in critical areas."
