We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The customer support provided by StarWind is excellent.""The license price is one of the cheapest in the market.""One of the standout features of StarWind.com is its remarkable ability to seamlessly integrate with Dell systems. This integration provides users with an unmatched level of convenience and compatibility, allowing for streamlined operations within a Dell environment. This compatibility factor alone can save significant time and effort for IT professionals, ensuring a smooth integration process and optimized performance.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the support. They are excellent and you can learn a lot from the support team.""The support team is available to solve any problem efficiently.""vSAN we found was simple to set up, easy to configure and manage and allows us to achieve storage redundancy.""The install itself is easy as pie.""StarWind saved us about 80% of our storage costs over our old solution."

"It is a hyper-converged solution which integrates with the network instead of the product.""The workload can handle anything and has an extended capacity.""The feature that we are most interested in is the scalability. When needed, we are able to add more nodes and scale it up further.""The most important benefits that we've seen from this solution is that it reduces the cost of management and it has easy monitoring systems.""The scalability of the product is quite good overall - as long as you plan correctly from the outset.""The initial setup is easy.""The management from the switches to the hyper-convergence solutions are quite good and well-developed.""Our customers have seen ROI in terms of the time they save troubleshooting."

"Installation is straightforward because it's a vSAN. It only took one or two days.""The VX machines are scalable.""We find the setup quite straightforward and very easy.""Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series' deployment is easy. We are a tier-one platinum partner who is into multiple implementations."

Cons
"StarWind doesn't really have any performance reporting, especially compared with other vSAN products we've used.""The only point they should improve is the amount of documentation available for the user, especially in the first preliminary phase in which we were testing the product on our own.""For improvement, I would like to see how the software determines which networks to use for which purpose. It seems like the naming terminology changes a bit from here to there.""For someone entering the IT sector with little knowledge of storage, iSCSI, and virtual disks, they might not find the GUI immediately obvious.""It is not very clear within the StarWind Management Console or the StarWind support documentation how to perform maintenance on a single node in a two-node HA cluster.""New versions of this solution should be tested more thoroughly before the release as we had a few problems with one version due to a bug.""The only way I can see this product needing improvement is the consultation level of the StarWind sales and engineers.""Regular updates to the software are required, and subtle design changes would be welcome."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"If we could have just a single pane of glass, where everything can be managed through that one app, rather than have multiple apps, it would be great.""Cisco is a bit more challenging in terms of deployment. The admin must be knowledgeable in order to complete the task. Without that knowledge, it will be difficult to complete.""The product needs work in the area of deduplication which currently is inefficient.""The initial setup of profiles and templates could be improved. Maybe some end profiles that you can use based on your type of deployment would be good.""The setup was complex, especially since we usually do all the planning, sizing, and workflows before integration.""Cisco HyperFlex should decrease the amount of memory needed from the Controller VM that controls the physical discs. They control the discs by using the virtual VM over every ESXi host and the VM consumes memory and consumes more hardware resources. They have to improve that by decreasing the amount of required memory and CPUs to control this disc on the server.""I would like to see them expand onto the cloud.""The primary improvements should be made in the cluster storage controller VMs so that they don't break the upgrade process."

More Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series [EOL] Cons →

"Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series needs to improve its stability. Its resolution should be faster.""Support could be better.""The user management could be a bit better. It's something they could improve upon in future releases.""With the VX machines, the clients often confuse the hardware itself with the services and resources. VMs are configured according to resources - memory, hard disk capacity, and network. These resources, including memory and processor, are actually shared on the VX Series. So, if the server's processor is underpowered or unreliable for the VMs, many of the VMs will encounter issues. Ideally, the physical server configuration should align more closely with the needs of the virtual servers."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "Cisco is quite expensive, but not in the initial first buy."
  • "Pricing is better if you buy more Cisco products."
  • "The pricing is a bit expensive."
  • "For customers in the private sector, this product can have a very high return on investment."
  • "If you don't look at the costs of the systems, the scalability is quite good."
  • "The price is a bit high. It could be better, but the product is worth the cost."
  • "I would like the pricing to be cheaper."
  • "Comparable solutions with switches, storage, and services are cheaper than HyperFlex. It should be cheaper."
  • More Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series [EOL] Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "You need to pay a license for additional features. If we need to monitor hardware for the automatic alert notification, we need to pay them."
  • "The tool's pricing is competitive."
  • "There is room for improvement in the licensing structure, maybe. Regarding sizing the resources, sometimes it's difficult to calculate/compute them based on the client's requirements."
