We performed a comparison between Cisco NGIPS and Fortinet FortiGate IPS based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Intrusion Detection and Prevention Software (IDPS) solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Ir's signature-based. We are also using the anomaly baseline formation, where it links the network, then anything that goes away from the norm is also flagged. Those are the two most valuable features."
"It has aligned the features in accordance to our strategic needs"
"The traffic filter of this solution is very valuable to us, and to our clients."
"Cisco NGIPS is a stable tool...The technical support provided by Cisco NGIPS is okay."
"This is a stable solution."
"The most valuable feature is its IPS ability. You are able to balance security and connectivity."
"You can do zero-day prevention and detection. It's quite useful."
"It is more or less stable. Sometimes I have some issues normally when we need to upgrade it to newer versions. I think it does the job."
"It does not require a lot of maintenance."

"FortiGate protects and secures our clients' networks. The security is solid, and it performs well. I think they use some artificial intelligence, so I think it's excellent equipment."
"The most useful feature of FortiGate IPS for me is Application Control."
"Our customers are still facing many bugs on the system. It has matured noticeably, but we are still facing multiple stability issues on Firepower. There are more than 80 or 90 bugs for each release node. It's a considerable number of bugs."
"The product's high price is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"We don't like its licensing model. It has separate licensing for all the features. For instance, to get URL filtering, you need to buy another license. Every feature set seems to require another license. Unless you purchase them all upfront, you find some surprises and realize that you can't do that because you need another license. Its logging isn't quite as good as it used to be in our previous solution. We used to have Cisco ASA, and we could view the logs a lot easier than NGIPS (also known as Firepower). We saw real-time logging, but we don't see that as much in Firepower."
"More flexibility with the dashboards is needed because some of them are not fully developed."
"Cisco can do better on their documentation because the product is really hard to understand."
"The solution would be better if it offered customers more integrations and more signatures."
"The aspect of private party integration solutions could be improved."
"In the next release I would like to see better reporting. I also find it's hard to act on the data it gives you."
"The initial deployment could be improved."
"I would like to be able to generate reports about the protections that we have. I would like a report feature."
"The learning curve is a bit higher."
"The dashboard is not user friendly so is a bit complicated."
"Fortinet FortiGate IPS could improve the configuration. In some use cases, there can be some configuration conflicts."
"IPs are not handled well and the process is unnecessarily complicated."
"The solution could maybe use more integration with artificial intelligence to be more proactive."
"Integration with the antivirus companion Webroot is not seamless on Mac computers."
