Pros
"The most valuable feature is that it is cost-saving.""Docker is easy to understand and follow. It provides good scalability to the application.""Docker's containerization property is its main selling point.""Docker packages up an application as a single item that you can then run without the need to install or configure it to work on any specific machine.""The lift and shift creates a lightweight image.""It is neat and very flexible.""The most valuable feature of Docker is automation. When I deploy the solution I am confident it will work anywhere. It is reliable and easy to use.""The scalability of Docker is good."

"It definitely gives the end customer a good overview and perspective of running applications in terms of overall workload footprint. TMC provides a very detailed description of your cloud-native application in the form of graphical visualization.""The initial setup is easy.""Tanzu Mission Control has quite a set of rich features when compared to OpenShift.""The most valuable feature of VMware Tanzu Mission Control is the management functionality of the cluster life cycle. Additionally, the solution integrates well with other vendors, such as Velero for backups and Sonobuoy for compliance. Additionally, it works well in multi-cluster environments.""The multi-tenancy with the VCD is great.""The most popular feature of VMware Tanzu Mission Control is its graphical user interface for describing network policies on the Service Mesh, which is highly integrable with other tools commonly used in supply chains such as security.""VMware Tanzu Mission Control has many valuable features, such as ease of use and customization.""The most important thing about the solution is its flexibility."

Cons
"The runtime and security could improve in Docker. Security is paramount in the cloud and important.""We have found that it is not easy to install it into a Windows system.""Deployment could be quicker.""Docker could improve by providing the ability to use the GPU for parallel processing. If there was the capability of using the GPU it would improve the machine learning that I want to use.""I would like to see a single package image orchestration bundled together.""I think Docker can improve as it relates to overall stability.""Docker could improve by having more advanced features.""I want to see if new architectures have been incorporated in Docker or if we have to wait for another release."

More Docker Cons →

"Cost is always a concern. Smaller companies might find the price a bigger issue.""Having a unified dashboard to manage all infrastructure, whether it involves additional IT infrastructure or modern apps, would be highly advantageous""The disaster recovery feature could be improved to provide better tracking of issues. I would also like to see the introduction of a dashboard view, for even further integration of all the areas that Mission Control looks at.""The solution could improve by having better integration with other solutions such as HPE.""LYNX is a managed cluster solution that takes care of specific details within a cluster, such as sequences or services. I haven't seen this feature in Tanzu Mission Control.""This product doesn't have a GUI. In order to use it properly, I need to connect it to a new GUI or build a GUI to manage it — it's pretty difficult.""We want to see a new feature that helps build more security architecture like Zero Trust Security or shifting left in Kubernetes.""Tanzu provides better manageability as compared to OCP, but when it comes to tagging it with other products, it's a bit rigid. If I have to bring in any new product or something out of the box from a different vendor, working with Tanzu becomes a little difficult. For example, if I want to use the F5 services, I have to add one more layer of Avi, but I don't want to do that. If I have a list of the products that I want to use, such as for firewall services, with Tanzu, I will have to go through another layer, which creates complexity."

    Overview

Docker takes away repetitive, mundane configuration tasks and is used throughout the development lifecycle for fast, easy and portable application development – desktop and cloud. Docker’s comprehensive end to end platform includes UIs, CLIs, APIs and security that are engineered to work together across the entire application delivery lifecycle.

What is VMware Tanzu Mission Control?

VMware Tanzu Mission Control is a platform that enables you to manage modern applications by providing a single control point for IT teams to more easily handle Kubernetes and run modern containerized applications across multiple clusters and clouds. Because the solution is an API-driven service, it allows you to manage all of your clusters via its API, the web-based console, or the CLI. The VMware Tanzu Mission Control console gives you the ability to view Kubernetes resources in two ways - either by cluster groups to provide an infrastructure view, or by workspaces to provide an application view.

    VMware Tanzu Mission Control Provides:

    • Control for operators
    • Consistency for DevOps
    • Flexibility for developers

    VMware Tanzu Mission Control Features

VMware Tanzu Mission Control has several valuable features, including:

    • Cluster lifecycle management: VMware Tanzu Mission Control gives you the flexibility needed to create or delete clusters, or upgrade or resize them by simply connecting to your own cloud provider account.

    • Cluster diagnostics and observability: With a comprehensive console, VMware Tanzu Mission Control makes it possible for you to monitor your clusters’ health and resource usage. The console allows you to see cluster details, such as nodes, workloads, and namespaces.

    • Cluster inspections: You can easily ensure consistency of clusters by running preconfigured inspections.

    • Data protection: With VMware Tanzu Mission Control, data resources in your clusters can be backed up and restored to ensure data protection.

    • Access control: VMware Tanzu Mission Control provides federated identity management and allows you to apply role-based access control on a granular level to meet your security requirements.

    • Policy management: You can create customized policies to manage your clusters, workloads, and namespaces, alleviating the need to manage your Kubernetes resources and its apps manually.

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by VMware Tanzu Mission Control

users who are currently using the solution.

PeerSpot user Abbasi P., who is a Vice President Derivatives Ops IT at a financial services firm, mentions what he finds to be most useful about the product, stating, “Tanzu Mission Control has quite a set of rich features when compared to OpenShift. I like the dashboard for monitoring the CI/CD pipeline, the entire process of releasing it into the cloud, and deploying it to the cloud.

Aurelio R., who is an IT Specialist at a tech services company, explains why he thinks the solution is valuable. “The most important feature of Tanzu Mission Control is its integration with the other products, especially with ESX and vSAN. This is a strong part of Tanzu Mission Control. In other solutions, such as OpenShift or Kubernetes, you can find similar features, but they don't have similar integration. With Tanzu Mission Control, you get a total solution with only one provider. You have the integration with the infrastructure, virtualization of networking, and virtualization of storage. You have a natural integration, and you don't have the problem of integrating it with different products or providers. Sometimes, different companies have good integration, but it is not always guaranteed. For example, many years ago, Cisco and VMware were good partners in networking, but when VMware started to sell ESX, the relationship was broken. This is the problem that you can face when you are using solutions from two different companies."

A Cloud Architect at a computer software company says, “The multi-tenancy with the VCD is great.
