Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We can plan changes and replacement of end-of-life products in our environment very well because it's very accurate.""Scalable and stable network monitoring tool with a simple setup.""Offers a lot of functionality.""The granular access control that it provided so that you could only see devices that were related to what you were working on was great. I couldn't see the entire inventory of devices. I could only see the ones that were related to my work. It has got a very granular access control component.""The most valuable feature is the event correlation mechanism.""The product’s stability and robustness are valuable.""We can monitor MPLS network VPN, network configuration, and backups. It's highly scalable for network configuration management.""The presentation layer is pretty simple and straightforward."

"It allows us to respond faster to issues. If there are issues that come out, we're able to capture a message and alert somebody about it.""I do not have to keep recordings. It is there and is proactive. It helps the operators, human editors, and me.""It's very flexible. You can customize what you need to, which is good. For example, you can do your own coding inside the tool, make your own scripting tooling.""I can and interrupt what's going on, bring a job down if I need to, and bring it back up.""It alerts the operators when it is time to repair the communications and the IPLs.""Their technical support is incredible, immediately responsive, and even if it is not updated to Level 2 support sometimes, they chip in providing more detailed answers and options to fix the problem.""The follow-up surprised me. Making sure that I am happy with what I have gone to them on. They will call after I have made changes and verify that I am happy with the changes that I did have to make. If it did not fix the complete problem, they go back over it until I am satisfied.""It is an easy product to use and it is stable."

Cons
"There should be better integration with other Broadcom products, like network performance manager. Currently, for every part of a product, you need a separate server environment. You have something for Spectrum, you have something for network performance, and you have something for NetFlow. There are a lot of islands and server farms with different technologies. They should be redeveloped to get one platform for all.""The GIS map feature needs to be enhanced and synced with topology views of containers and global collections.""Technical support for this product is not so good. It needs improvement.""DX Spectrum is stable. However, now and then there are some issues, but overall it is good.""It takes some time to learn how to use this solution.""The visual is a little archaic.""We have a lot of different monitoring tools in the background, so orchestration has been a little bit of a challenge.""Integration with some other tools, and integration with some Network Packet Broker, need some improvement."

More DX Spectrum Cons →

"It’s a complex product. The initial installation is easy, but implementing various functions is a constant process.""The interfaces to USS, CA UIM could be better. CA Common Services interfaces - namely Zdata Mover, Zmessage Service, Zdatacolletcor - are poorly documented.""It definitely needs more web-based interface, to be more mobile-open. More APIs, more open source to it.""Scalability is zero. It cannot be scaled because of its age.""Some of the command sequences are too long.""The further expansion of the mainframe teamcenter interface. Also, the web services support is something that I am looking into.""One thing that comes to mind is the MQ interface. The last time we tried to use it, it seemed a little clunky.""Because of its age, it's a little bit difficult to modernize some of the integrations and some of the functions."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is very pricey. With the current trend of enterprises moving towards cheaper and more modern looking solutions like ManageEngine, SevOne, ServicePilot, and Paesller."
  • "It’s a great tool, but an expensive one. Learn how to use it properly."
  • "The cost of some of these products are a little cost prohibitive, which is unfortunate. We have to find lower cost solutions for some of the things that we have to pull in. For the most part, CA has capabilities in pretty much everything that you would need. You just have to figure out where are you going to spend the most money for what you have to actually get done. You can do all these things but, which ones do you have to do? And that's hard to choose sometimes because you want to do them all."
  • "In general, the license cost will be about 30% of the total TCO for this tool (hardware/support team, OS costs, and OS management)."
  • "The product, support, and maintenance are all expensive, which is another reason that we are switching to another solution."
  • "The price is very high."
  • "The price of the solution is reasonable."
  • "Currently, a perpetual license but some services are moving to a subscription"

    Reviews from Real Users

DX Spectrum stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its robust root cause analysis and its event correlation tool. PeerSpot users take note of the advantages of these features in their reviews:

Umair A., Enterprise Solutions & Services Head at Duroob Technologies, writes of the product, “It covers networks very well. It has all the capabilities that you're looking for when it comes to monitoring. Spectrum is great for root cause analysis. It has excellent correlation event management. Spectrum's stability and scalability are also amazing. If you have a CA Service Desk, then it can be integrated so that if you have open tickets they can be closed automatically.”

Itarchit, an IT Architect at a comms service provider, notes, “The most valuable feature is the event correlation mechanism. I also like the product's multi-customer approach.” He adds, “We haven't seen a better product. Overall, I am happy with this solution. Based on the current market, I would rate DX Spectrum a nine out of ten.”

z/OS, its subsystems, databases, middleware, applications, and software generate thousands of event messages daily. IT professionals need a tool to filter, prioritize, and respond quickly to these events before they impact availability and threaten business processing and associated service level agreements. CA OPS/MVS EMA automates processes, enabling you to resolve problems as they arise. It also automates more routine tasks, simplifying IT management and operations.
