We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The SQL language is convenient to use. It allows us to process a bunch of criteria very quickly and narrows things down if there is an issue with the firewall. It's easy to do that with SQL queries.""It is the single place where we go to review all of our firewall changes. The solution makes it easier for us to track all the changes made. It is a central place where we can look at all the firewall rules, because we have three different firewall vendors. It save us time and creates efficiencies by looking at the general picture.""The firewall assessment feature is great.""FireMon is nice and provides 360-degree user views.""FireMon saves us a lot of time and it's nice because if you're adding a rule that's similar to another rule, it'll tell you so sometimes you can just edit the one and add another source or destination in there without creating a duplicate rule. It enables you to consolidate and have fewer, more meaningful rules. We're saving around 30% of our time.""Vendor agnostic when it comes to integrating with other product.""In one report, FireMon tells us there are, say, 1,000 rules that can be taken out and it gives us the ability to disable those for a year and to track when we made our changes. After a year, we can go back and eliminate the rules, to bring the configuration down to an almost human-readable level.""It provides us with a single pane of glass for our on-prem environment, to see configuration. We have not implemented into the cloud yet. We can search for an object group and see where it lives on any firewall in the enterprise or find security rules, no matter what firewall they're on."

"It is a solid solution for business environments. Investing in this technology can yield significant cost and security enhancements.""The template will save time from being wasted on load balancing.""Fortinet FortiGate Cloud has good pricing compared to other firewall and security products.""Our customers implement this solution so that they can be assured of security in their environment.""We use the solution for routing and cloud security. We have multiple offices nationwide, all connected through the MPRS network, which is terminated at our FortiGate firewall. We consolidate our networks, filter packets, and segment our network through this firewall. My company has around three lakh firewalls.""One firewall box can contain various top-of-the-line services that are packaged together for easy administration.""The solution works well for remote or branch offices.""The most valuable features of the solution are the UTP feature, IPS antivirus, and web filtering."

Cons
"We've had recurring issues managing FireMon's internal backups. Sometimes, the space allocated for the backup is full, and there is no process where it deletes files that are older than I certain date. It's just waiting for the storage to get full and then it's cleaned up. It isn't something that creates serious issues for us.""The current health and monitoring of the devices is atrocious... Imagine you have a list of 200 devices, and you can grade each of those devices as either green, yellow, or red. However, there might be three different reasons for you to go to red, or eight different reasons to go to yellow, and all of those things could be combined... Out of all those categories, I only find one or two of them that are, perhaps, pertinent.""We have not used the Policy Planner but even so, we have identified areas of improvement with it during our testing. For example, it could be better when it comes to ease of integration or ease of policy automation. Another problem is that there is a console where it has too many options and is not very straightforward. Essentially, controlling it could be made more seamless.""FireMon could be made more user-friendly when it comes to creating filters or conducting traffic analysis.""I think that having a more open system and providing documentation for it would be helpful for users like us. We are pretty adept and can navigate through the Linux software that the on-premises FireMon is based on. It would help us in the long run.""The advanced features are complex in setting up the rules.""FireMon could be easier to use and flexibility regarding reporting could be improved.""A phone app would be nice. This is the reason why it is not perfect yet."

More FireMon Security Manager Cons →

"We do find we get a bit of a lag.""It would be better for us if Fortinet provided a private cloud, and they should provide more security on the public cloud. There are some minor issues with security with the public cloud. For example, anyone with a link can access the public cloud.""The robustness of the software could be improved.""Everything related to the graphical user interface should be improved.""Fortinet should simplify the licensing model. It's too complex for decision-makers to choose from the range of options. Handling the pricing model is a nightmare, so it's difficult to sell the solution.""The interface and dashboards should improve in Fortinet FortiGate Cloud. Other solutions have better graphical interfaces.""Fortinet FortiGate Cloud could improve the dashboards.""The solution could improve by having a Russian interface."
