We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's helped us because we've changed fundamentally what we talk about. We don't talk about storage and different tiers of storage anymore nor do we talk about servers. We talk now about applications and how applications impact the business and end users.""One of the best features is the support, which is excellent.""The most valuable feature of this solution is its ease of use.""The solution is very straightforward to set up.""FlashArray has some fresh efficiency features. I've never seen a storage solution with a compression rating this high before. It's at least 4-to-1 on Oracle databases. It's the best flash storage for Oracle.""We're able to get higher-density workloads on the same infrastructure, and we have a smaller physical footprint. The performance is excellent – during our test the bottlenecks are never on the X array, it just keeps picking up the pace to match what you need. The real-time visibility is a differentiator in my opinion.""The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes.""What I really like about this program, is that it is easy to use and easy to configurate."

"It is very flexible, and it is very useful when you want to virtualize different storage from different vendors.""The biggest benefit of the Hitachi platform is 100 percent storage uptime. It's also highly cost-effective.""The high performance of flash storage is especially valuable to us.""The technical support is great.""In terms of performance and ability, the product can stand up against its competitors since the solution offers two controller systems to users.""The product offers high stability.""This is one of the most stable, high-end solutions in this area.""What I like best about Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is that it's a fast storage solution. It also has reliable models. The sales support is also good for this product. Even the pricing for it is good."

"We are using the Hitachi VSP E Series for high IOPS.""Its user-friendly configuration and maintenance processes contribute to its reputation for being straightforward and easily manageable.""It offers good file sharing."

Cons
"There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features.""We would like to see more visibility into garbage collection and CPU performance in the GUI.""We need better data deduplication.""The UI for this solution needs to be improved.""It is on the expensive side.""Every time I think of something that needs to improve, they're one step ahead, which I love. The only area I wish to see improve, I believe is coming, is in the FlashBlade product. Blade implementation fell short on a few of the services.""You cannot tag a LUN with a description, and that should be improved. What I like on the Unity side is that when I expand LUNs or do things, there is an information field on the LUN. This is the Information field that you can tag on your LUNs to let yourself know, "Hey, I've added this much space on this date". Pure lacks that ability. So, you don't have a mechanism that's friendly for tracking your data expansions on the LUN and for adding any additional information. That's a downside for me.""Many options to check performance, like read, writes, random writes, and random reads, are missing in Pure FlashArray X NVMe."

"The software has always been lagging a bit compared to the newer features. It usually takes a cycle for it to catch up.""For the support windows to work, maybe they have to upgrade the firmware of the VSP. They changed the hardware or the disk. I don't know if it was the port blade they changed or a VM for a memory cache. Also, replacing the old target with the processor target would be fine. The old equipment is very easy to manage, and I don't have any bad commentary.""The complex setup phase is an area where improvements are needed.""Hitachi should offer a distinct overview of the various storage choices.""In terms of new features, I would be interested to see deduplication added in their next release.""One improvement I am hoping for in the next release is unified storage.""In the next version I would like to see more intelligence.""The installation procedure it a bit difficult, because it is a high-end solution. With this type of product, the original company is interested in doing the setup for customers in the area, but because of sanctions we were not able to get support in our area. We faced many issued trying to learn to run this product."

More Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform Cons →

"There is room for improvement in simplifying the overall complexity of the environment.""The solution's support duration or end-of-support life is very short.""The graphical user interface is somewhat outdated, lacking some of the modern features found in other solutions."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "The pricing we get is very competitive when compared to other vendors. Hitachi is working on their licensing model and it is improving but can be irksome when many different items are not bundled or enterprise size."
  • "Our main issue with the Hitachi G-Series is what we consider to be an archaic software licensing scheme and high maintenance costs."
  • "It is a little expensive."
  • "I would like to see better pricing and more discounts."
  • "Pricing could be better, because the cost is very high."
  • "This solution is cheaper than Dell EMC VMAX. When you are looking for a high-end solution, price matters, but availability and stability are more important than the price."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "When you are looking for high-end solutions such as this, price is less important than stability and availability."
