We performed a comparison between HPE Nimble Storage dHCI and HPE SimpliVity based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Both of these HPE solutions are part of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise brand of excellent data management products. Users say HPE SimpliVity is the more comprehensive product. It is a very user-friendly, simple product to use, implement, and manage. The storage virtualization layers and super fast backups make it extremely valuable. Some users say HPE Nimble Storage dHCI can be a bit buggy and should provide better file-level restoration and DVX system options.
"It is easy to use and can monitor system synchronization and check Storage status. StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN) combines flash and disks of the cluster and forms a virtual shared storage “pool” accessible by all hosts. StarWind cuts down virtualization cost and complexity by eliminating the need for a physical shared storage (SAN). -StarWind offers the Enterprise-level high availability (HA), deployed and easily configured . we get technical support from star wind team when implementation software and after setup if we face any issue."
"StarWind vSAN is a great solution to create a redundant two-node-only Hyper-V cluster, both for domain or workgroup scenarios."
"It enables us to provide more solution options for our clients, with the reassurance that, when implemented, they will be efficient and stable."
"Before VSAN, hypervisor configuration changes and updates resulted in VM outages. Now, downtime is dramatically reduced."
"The ability to choose our own hardware and our own vendors for this was hugely beneficial, as we had pre-existing relationships with vendors we wanted to maintain."
"The most valuable feature is the reliable storage replication, which enables me to create a robust infrastructure to run our business."
"StarWind Virtual SAN can improve an organization's storage infrastructure by providing high availability, scalability, cost-effectiveness, performance, and ease of use."
"We are able to do maintenance by bringing down one node at a time, rather than having to schedule a complete shutdown."
"The technical support services are good."
"We have this feature in Nimble dHCI, wherein we can upgrade individual components in the infrastructure."
"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI has the most valuable features for performance, resilience, and scalability."
"The product has cut down a lot of service tickets. Earlier, people complained about slowness."
"The solution is useful for taking storage snapshots, has high performance, and the CASL architecture is good for optimizing workloads."
"The nice thing about it is that it truly integrates with the cloud, so I can move my volumes bi-directionally in and out of the cloud."
"Nimble Storage is a capable platform with high availability."
"Simply being able to move objects and the duplication feature have been quite effective."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"Our clients are very comfortable with the single management of the complete stack. The creation of VM systems is also very fast."
"I have found backup and replication to be useful. We have a 10 megabit line between the data center and our main site. The backup and replication are very good. Additionally, the solution runs on VMware which is a benefit."
"The compression and deduplication features are most valuable because they allow us to have a small footprint for storage. It is a very stable product, and we are also able to get all that we need in terms of reporting."
"I have saved time and money by moving to the platform."
"We can get backups faster. We have a smaller footprint for hardware, which takes up less space. So, we use less electricity and floor space."
"Stability is pretty good. We have no complaints as it has been running seamlessly with no downtime."
"It is easy to set up."
"It is hard to find adequate technical documentation on their support website."
"Maybe in the future, the replication will be supported in more cloud providers."
"I struggled when bit figuring out how to go about doing the evaluation."
"Updates seem to be non-existent."
"We would like the documentation to be more complete. Most items are covered, but if you don't know something, you may need to contact their support."
"Regular updates to the software are required, and subtle design changes would be welcome."
"Improvements in documentation and support resources could enhance the user experience."
"Perhaps more reporting features on the utilization, usage, and performance of the configured high-availability images and underlying physical disks would be helpful."
"Their documentation needs to be simpler to read yet more detailed so it's easy to compare models and easier for clients to pick."
"The solution could improve by providing better file-level restoration and DVX system options."
"The initial setup is a little bit complicated."
"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI only works with a hypervisor like VMware. There are plenty of other hypervisors that HP doesn't support. This is an area for improvement."
"The product's active controller feature needs improvement."
"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI's website does not open properly or work consistently."
"The solution must be hypervisor-agnostic."
"They should improve just the support."
"SimpliVity has this thing where if a virtual machine is on the wrong node with two nodes, it will be optimized. However, if one of the nodes won't be optimized, then it will complain about that. It will give you a little warning to say the source is not optimized. Please move this to one of the other hosts. They should just add a little thing in SimpliVity to move all the VMs to the right host, because it is a pain to load balance across the three nodes when all these VMs are complaining and you have to move them to one."
"They can bring more awareness about this product. In this part of the world or this region, people normally don't know about SimpliVity and its capabilities. The company we have it sold to hasn't been able to fully utilize all the features or understand the features. So, product awareness should be improved."
"It's a very complex installation. It's gotten easier, however, it's far from a double click on a link and a self-upgrade scenario. There's still an awful lot of magic that goes down to doing upgrades."
"I wish to see an improved compute node selection, to allow us to select something other than merely the two socket system."
"SimpliVity has very limited options for the virtualization layer."
"I have a free project with SimpliVity deployment in the next three months. What can be improved is that in one or two of these projects, I need a cloud backup for the infrastructure and data. As for the infrastructure of the product as it relates to customer size, it is not very good at this moment in Peru. I need a solution for the cloud. In Peru, it's a three or four solution provider for cloud services."
"When we make some upgrades to the platform, it does take time to stabilize the structure again."
"While SimpliVity was a pioneer of cloud connect capability, they have simply not exploited it."
