We performed a comparison between HPE Nimble Storage and HPE Primera based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: The two solutions had a similar user rating in terms of ease of deployment. HPE Primera had a better user rating regarding pricing and service and support. In terms of features, HPE Nimble Storage users felt there were stability and scalability issues, while HPE Primera users felt the reporting console needed improvements and the user interface wasn’t user-friendly.
"It is very easy to install and configure. It has got excellent diagnostics. If you really need to see how the box is performing, the console gives you a lot of information. You can set thresholds as well as alerts based on the thresholds, which is a very powerful functionality. They are very proactive. They know how to monitor and manage the systems. They see a problem, and they are all over it before us. They see the problem before we see it, which is very good."
"The solution is scalable."
"The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability."
"One of the best features is the support, which is excellent."
"It has good, reliable, fast storage."
"The Pure1 component is most valuable at this point in time when comparing it with EMC. Pure1 is where you can have your diagnostics in the cloud, so you can look at things from your mobile phone."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is reliability."
"The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and performance."
"They could probably improve an organization with just about anything. It is all a matter of ease of use, ease of the implementation, etc."
"The most valuable feature is the NVMe flash storage."
"It's easy to use, it's just like 3PAR. I made clusters of 32 hosts with 50 volumes and that took barely an hour. I scripted a lot of it, filled in the names of volumes, the names of servers."
"If a ransomware or enterprise-level attack happens, my infrastructure remains totally secure. If any virtual machine gets damaged or collapses, we have built a backup solution, which will take a minute to restore the same version of HPE Nimble Storage in our company."
"The most useful features are high availability and the storage snapshot backup functionality."
"It's very stable and fast, and I am very happy with the deduplication. It saves a lot of space, which is great."
"Scalability is another reason we chose to go with Nimble: upgrading to another storage array. If we need higher capacity or throughput, we can just replace controllers, we don't have to replace or forklift-upgrade the whole chassis."
"The most valuable features are the duplication and compression traffic. We have second storage that we can use for the synchronization of data between the data centers."
"It is a stable solution...It is a scalable solution."
"All of the capabilities of the hardware such as replication, snapshot, and the specific features are all included from the start as opposed to being on another license."
"The most valuable feature is an all-flash system, which means the data access speed is amazing while the latency is almost nothing, and it can deliver IOPS up to 16,000."
"The greatest advantage is the support when we encounter incidents, as HPE's support is highly responsive."
"The product's initial setup phase was easy."
"The interface is simplified."
"The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not overly complex."
"There has been a lot of changes in HPE Primera OS, and most of the time any package related to it is simple to upgrade. It does not require any support for the operation. The customer can easily deploy any code directly from the GUI which is very good. Additionally, we have individual storage we can allocate and easily manage."
"The software layer has to improve."
"We would like to see more visibility into garbage collection and CPU performance in the GUI."
"There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features."
"Many options to check performance, like read, writes, random writes, and random reads, are missing in Pure FlashArray X NVMe."
"Our use cases require more multi-tenant capabilities and additional VLAN interfaces for separating different customers. We currently use it to provide storage, sometimes shared storage, to different customers, but it is less flexible in comparison to a dedicated solution."
"We would like to see VNC integration or be able to use Pure Storage with VNC."
"It's more multi-tenant functionality in their Pure1 manage portal that is lacking."
"I want to see Pure Storage not only be for fast storage, but I want to see it be for the entire data center."
"It was a bit expensive."
"I want it to be an active-active array. Nimble would be great as an active-active array because then everything checks out. It would give a feeling of comfort."
"I would like to have integration into cloud providers, apart from HPE."
"The backup solution that they are using now probably has not been deduped."
"HPE Nimble Storage could be improved with some critical application or servers."
"I’d like to see in-line deduplication extended to Nimble non-flash (called “Hybrid”) arrays, even if it’s only the C500 and higher controllers that support it."
"The solution’s stability could be better. The tool’s pricing is high and depends on the partner."
"The only thing that I can really compare Nimble to is all-flash because, right now, Nimble is a hybrid solution. I would like to see them come out with an all-flash alternative."
"We have not had a good experience with support from HPE Primera. They can improve."
"The product's stale snapshots feature needs improvement."
"We cannot use this storage for critical applications and data."
"The interface needs to be more user-friendly in that sense that installation and management are still a bit on the high end."
"Increasing the IOPS and throughput values would make the product even better. Improving the scalability of HPE Primera is also recommended."
"This solution would be expensive for small business and it could be priced more competitively for that market."
"We've encountered issues in the past where maintaining a read-only state is essential to prevent data encryption when VPN access is impacted."
"On the hardware side, you should have the ability to expand capacity to larger numbers."
