We performed a comparison between IBM PowerVM and Nutanix AHV Virtualization based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Server Virtualization Software solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."It's in English, so its exceptional qualities make the control environment more flexible, easier, more stable, and easy to recover after issues."
"What I like about this solution, is that it is easy to configure."
"The stability is the most valuable aspect of this solution. IBM is the most powerful and stable platform."
"The most valuable features in this solution are you do not get degradation in the performance like you could get in other solutions. There is a physical adapter that is better than a virtual one and you can assign adapters to a VM."
"You can increase resources with it automatically."
"Technical support is great."
"It is a stable solution with reliable performance."
"Active Memory Sharing dynamically reallocates memory of running partitions based on changing workload demands. The memory for the pool is carved out from Physical memory and is made logical memory. The said memory is not available to be assigned to partitions as dedicated memory. A min, max and desired as well as weight is assigned to the memory of each lpar to help hypervisor make a decision in case a condition where priority is to be given to a certain lapr to use the memory form shared pool."
"The most valuable aspect of this solution is that you don't need to pay for it, it's free, as opposed to paying for a VMware license."
"The most valuable feature is manageability."
"The most valuable feature of Nutanix AHV is that it can be managed through Hyper-V, which is Microsoft's hypervisor, VMware, and Citrix XenServer."
"The most valuable part of Nutanix is its centralized management of everything."
"We use Prism Central, the centralized management console for AHV clusters. It allows administrators to manage multiple clusters from a single interface and provides a unified view of the entire infrastructure."
"Simplicity is the most valuable feature."
"If we want to move the virtual machine from one host to another, it's simple, straightforward, and stable."
"The support is excellent."
"The solution is quite pricey."
"The product's pricing could be less expensive compared to other competitors."
"I would like for IBM to be more focuses on the cloud."
"I don't know whether this has been trialed already, but IBM should give us an alert when we reach seven or eight failovers so that we can automatically switch it to manual mode. That would be great because if we cross the 10-day licensing limit, we have to pay a hefty license cost to Oracle. If IBM could view that feature, it would be helpful in license compliance."
"The program has very limited solutions for the virtualization of containers"
"The licensing could be better."
"IBM should review the price of this solution in my opinion; it is too high."
"PowerVM's platform build and performance could be improved."
"Nutanix misses alerts sometimes."
"I haven't come across any limitations. Nutanix doesn't support externally attached storage through Fibre Channel. However, Nutanix doesn't support Fibre Channel connectivity. This, in my opinion, is a weakness of Nutanix. For instance, it does not support Cyber Talent. To clarify, you cannot connect external Fibre Channel storage or NAS storage resources with Nutanix. However, VMware vSAN supports such solutions."
"An improvement would be for Nutanix AHV to support VMDK, AOS, Hyper-V, and VMware."
"If you have the need for special hardware like FibreChannel-Cards or such and there is no networked-way around it (such as you could work with USB Dongles via an HW-Dongle-Server of network), you have to use a separate hypervisor."
"The solution is very expensive."
"The technical support for this solution needs to be improved in terms of response time."
"My storage use is doubled; if I am creating a one TB virtual machine then my storage policy will take two TB from my cluster."
"A lot of tasks cannot be performed using the GUI, the graphical interface."
