Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is that it's intuitive. It's very intuitive.""The vulnerability reporting is helpful. When we initially deployed Defender, it reported many more threats than we currently see. It gave us insight into areas we had not previously considered, so we knew where we needed to act.""It has seamless integration with any of the services I mentioned, on Azure, such as IaaS platforms, virtual machines, applications, or databases, because it's an in-house product from Microsoft within the Azure ecosystem.""One of the features that I like about the solution is it is both a hybrid cloud and also multi-cloud. We never know what company we're going to buy, and therefore we are ready to go. If they have GCP or AWS, we have support for that as well. It offers a single-panel blast across multiple clouds.""Technical support is helpful.""With respect to improving our security posture, it helps us to understand where we are in terms of compliance. We can easily know when we are below the standard because of the scores it calculates.""The first valuable feature was the fact that it gave us a list of everything that users were surfing on the web. Having the list, we could make decisions about those sites.""It's got a lot of great features."

"The most valuable feature of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is its ability to bring together all the data, providing more information than just antivirus hits.""We are able to productively integrate with existing on-prem, hybrid, or cloud applications.""The most valuable features are the Windows Firewall and the regular virus definition updates. These features are very helpful and have helped to improve our security.""Microsoft Defender is always running. It is doing its job, so it is fine. I don't have any issues with the way it was implemented or how we are running it. We have been upgrading IT throughout the years, but there have been no issues.""Its simplicity is the most valuable. It also has very good integration. We like it.""The most valuable feature of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is that it is embedded into the Windows system. Additionally, the performance is good and simple to maintain.""Defender for Endpoint is a robust solution that works well out-of-the-box.""It's a very complete application. I have all the controls in one site. I can track emails, attacks, and threats, and I can research information. I really like this configuration because I have all the information in place."

Cons
"Microsoft can improve the pricing by offering a plan that is more cost-effective for small and medium organizations.""From my own perspective, they just need a product that is tailored to micro-segmentation so I can configure rules for multiple systems at once and manage it.""The solution could improve by being more intuitive and easier to use requiring less technical knowledge.""I would like to have the ability to customize executive reporting.""The product must improve its UI.""As an analyst, there is no way to configure or create a playbook to automate the process of flagging suspicious domains.""The remediation process could be improved.""It needs to be simplified and made more user-friendly for a non-technical person."

More Microsoft Defender for Cloud Cons →

"It is using a large space in your memory all the time. While an antivirus will use some of your memory, if they could reduce the load of the antivirus to some extent that would be good.""A concern is ransomware, whether people can penetrate and encrypt my data or steal my credit card/banking information.""The product should reduce updates since it is hard to keep up.""It could be easier when it comes to managing exceptions.""There are likely some technical improvements or features that could be added, however, I cannot say, off the top of my head, what they would be.""I would just like them to have more consistency, and that's a comment that's across the board with Microsoft. They change things a lot.""The central console needs improvement. Both McAfee and Symantec antivirus have dashboards. These integrate with a server and work on my antivirus or some other product. However, with Microsoft Defender, you use Microsoft Group Policy Object. Defender does not provide a central console. Therefore, if you implement Defender, then maybe use another tool for the central view.""We'd like the stability to be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I'm not privy to that information, but I know it's probably close to a million dollars a year."
  • "We are using the free version of the Azure Security Center."
  • "Azure Defender is a bit pricey. The price could be lower."
  • "This is a worldwide service and depending on the country, there will be different prices."
  • "Security Center charges $15 per resource for any workload that you onboard into it. They charge per VM or per data-base server or per application. It's not like Microsoft 365 licensing, where there are levels like E3 and E5. Security Center is pretty straightforward."
  • "There is a helpful cost-reducing option that allows you to integrate production subscriptions with non-production subscriptions."
  • "Its pricing is a little bit high in terms of Azure Security Center, but the good thing is that we don't need to maintain and deploy it. So, while the pricing is high, it is native to Azure which is why we prefer using this tool."
  • "I am not involved in this area. However, I believe its price is okay because even small customers are using Azure Security Center. I don't think it is very expensive."

  • "The product is free of charge and comes integrated into Windows."
