We performed a comparison between Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and Trend Micro Apex One based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Trend Micro Apex One has a slight edge in this comparison due to its being the less expensive solution.
"It is stable and scalable."
"Ability to get forensics details and also memory exfiltration."
"It notifies us if there's any suspicious file on any PC. If any execution or similar kind of thing is happening, it just alerts us. It doesn't only alert. It also blocks the execution until we allow it. We check whether the execution is legitimate or not, and then approve it or keep it blocked. This gives us a little bit of control over this mechanism. Fortinet FortiEDR is also very straightforward and easy to maintain."
"It is very easy to set up. I would rate my experience with the initial setup a ten out of ten, with ten being very easy to set up."
"The solution was relatively easy to deploy."
"This is stable and scalable."
"Impressive detection capabilities"
"I like FortiClient EMS. FortiEDR has a lot of great features like lockdown mode, remote wipes, and encryption. I can set malware outbreak policies and controls for detecting abnormalities. You can also simulate phishing attacks."
"It's stable."
"One feature I like the most is vulnerability management, which shows any vulnerable software or OS present in my environment. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint provides a complete overview and also recommends the steps to mitigate the vulnerabilities or threats. Most of the other antivirus or EDR solutions generally don't provide vulnerability management. It is an add-on that Microsoft Defender for Endpoint provides."
"It comes included with the Windows license."
"It's a very complete application. I have all the controls in one site. I can track emails, attacks, and threats, and I can research information. I really like this configuration because I have all the information in place."
"Defender should be fine for home use. It has all the basic functionality you need. I can't speak to how well it works as an enterprise solution because I'm not in the space."
"Defender is a part of Windows; you just need to enable it. There is no need to install anything."
"A few years ago, when I was using a different product, I was affected by a virus that destroyed everything. Since using Microsoft Defender, I have not had this kind of problem."
"I like the fact that it has the ransomware solution in there. I'm glad that the ransomware solution is built into it. That's probably the biggest thing that I see in Microsoft Defender."
"We really like the ability to have different policies to keep servers and endpoints unique to their own policy."
"The most valuable features of Trend Micro Apex One are it has its own machine learning and it is quite fast, compared with the other solutions. When you're comparing the other solutions, each has pros and cons, you cannot claim one is 100 percent suitable for you. None of the solutions dominate in all areas."
"The most favorable features have been behavior monitoring and zero-day threat protection."
"It's a stable solution, to date we have not had any issues."
"The policies, protection, and ease of use are the most valuable features of Trend Micro Apex One."
"The most valuable feature of Trend Vision One Endpoint Security is the virtual patching it provides."
"They have a wide range of products, including a couple for virtual patching, which is very important."
"DLP is a solid feature in the product. I like it very much. It is very useful in our environment. It is also a very stable solution. Their support is also very good."
"They can include the automation for the realtime updates. We have a network infrastructure with remote sites. Whenever they send updates, they are not automated. We have to go into the console and push those updates. I wish it was more automated. The update file is currently around 31 MB. It could be smaller."
"The solution should address emerging threats like SQL injection."
"FortiEDR could add a separate scanning dashboard. In incident management, we prefer to remove the endpoint system from the environment and scan the system. We typically use Symantec for that, but if we want to use FortiEDR for that, then we need a scanning tab to clarify things."
"The security should be strong for the cloud. Some applications are on-prem and some are on the cloud. Fortinet should also have strong security for the cloud. There should be more security for the cloud."
"We'd like to see more one-to-one product presentations for the distribution channels."
"The only minor concern is occasional interference with desired programs."
"The solution's installation from a central installation server could be improved because the engineers had a little bit of trouble getting it installed from a central location."
"To improve Fortinet, we need to see more features and technology areas at the endpoint level introduced."
"Additional security would be beneficial."
"There are likely some technical improvements or features that could be added, however, I cannot say, off the top of my head, what they would be."
"The pricing could be a bit better."
"There are alternative solutions that offer a greater range of dashboard insights when compared to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint."
"I would like to see improvements made to how it secures activities on web pages."
"A single dashboard would be a significant improvement."
"From an audit point of view, our auditors would like to have more reports on how things are used, if things go wrong, and how they went wrong. For example, if something got a warning, "Why?" So, we would like more versatility for tracing and reporting. That would improve the product, as long as the user interface doesn't get bogged down."
"Integration with third-party vendors could be better. It would be better if it integrates with other protection solutions or other products outside of Microsoft. Nowadays, anti-virus protection doesn't really have to be planned as overall protection for your environment in terms of security. There are really different avenues that bad actors can take to wreak havoc on your machine."
"The cost could be improved."
"The only thing that I would like to see changed or improved in the next release is when it reports C&C callbacks, to make it easier to trace, to see what's doing that, whether it's a program checking for updates or a malicious program."
"The Apex One endpoint sensor has room for improvement."
"We had some problems with Trend Micro Apex One doing the updates and patches. Some of the other vendor's support has said that Trend Micro Apex One receives database signatures updates too late."
"The solution needs to have SDR in it. So, SDR is an area where the solution needs to work and improve itself."
"It needs a consolidated manager as there are too many parts to currently manage it."
"When I was setting this up for one of my clients, I was not able to deploy the DLP."
"We cover many things, but there is something called ATP, advanced threat prevention. I think they need to invest in this technology."
