Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable part of Nutanix is its centralized management of everything.""It is a stable solution. I haven't faced stability issues in the solution.""The most valuable feature of the solution is the built-in data protection, that helps with backup in a matter of minutes.""The dashboard of the solution is one of its strongest points.""The interface is very good, and quite user-friendly.""This product stands out for its user-friendly interface, intuitive design, and responsive UI. It offers AVH features comparable to Nutanix but at a more cost-effective price point.""Nutanix AHV's most valuable feature is NetFlow.""The most valuable feature is manageability."

More Nutanix AHV Virtualization Pros →

"One of the most valuable features of Nutanix is that it's easy to use. I love this solution—it's easy to maintain and update, and I think it's almost perfect.""The initial setup was quite straightforward.""The scalability is great.""The most valuable features of Nutanix Acropolis AOS are storage and hyper-converged. The solution is easy to use and the administration is very good.""The most valuable features are simple management and one-click upgrades.""The configuration is easy, and it's flexible.""This is a very flexible solution that you are able to run however you want.""To receive a performance enhancement by merely clicking the one button upgrade is the true value of the platform and what I look forward to the most."

Cons
"I would like to see better decompression or degrouping of the VMs so that we can use a single number of SQLs with two servers. We don't need a huge number of DXSPs.""Lacks integration with the cloud or other solutions.""To face no complications in our company, we had to switch off virtual machines one after the other before heading to Nutanix platform and going to edge services to switch off and turn off everything, making it a challenging process for me.""The initial installation is complex. It took approximately four days.""Nutanix’s support team is not very efficient compared to others.""In terms of improvement, I think that they could have more partnerships with providers.""It's not a very scalable product.""Although AHV has many advantages, some drawbacks need to be mentioned. Compared to established hypervisors like VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V, AHV has a limited ecosystem and smaller community support."

More Nutanix AHV Virtualization Cons →

"We would like to see a cloud version of Acropolis AOS. Currently, we're trying to implement an AWS environment for some solutions, but we would like to use another technology also to enhance our organization, so we are looking for another technology for this, especially a cloud solution.""Our client had some old Citrix Xen servers for which there is no direct migration. Nutanix has a move utility for Microsoft Hyper-V clusters or VMware clusters. You can easily migrate them using the move utility, but the Xen clusters cannot be migrated in a simple way. That is the only thing that is lacking, but nowadays, no one uses the Citrix Xen server for their clusters. Everything else is already there. Nutanix keeps on upgrading its hardware's or hypervisor's capability to be able to support new technologies.""It's lacking in some features but overcompensating in others.""In the future, I would like to see integration with external storage using the fiber channel""The scalability of Nutanix Acropolis AOS needs improvement.""We had a few problems with the foundation machine that you can use to build your systems out. We've got it working now, but it should be improved.""The file services that they also provide need some more features, like on the Windows file server.""One of the improvements I would like to have is related to naming. It is getting confusing because they are using three-letter acronyms, which are more or less misleading. What I do not like is that they changed names and reused names. They had a meaning in the past and they are still using the names for something similar."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The most valuable feature of this solution is that there is no licensing fee."
  • "AHV is free, it's an open-source solution."
  • "Some of the features required additional licenses."
  • "We don't have to pay extra for Acropolis because it is built into Nutanix."
  • "The price of the solution is fair and if you want support there are additional fees."
  • "The price of the solution can always be lower. However, the price of the solution is reasonable."
  • "Nutanix AHV is free."
  • "The price of Nutanix AHV is reasonable."
  • More Nutanix AHV Virtualization Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Able to grow with smaller, more linear increments of investment"
  • "The basic license that comes with the box allows basic virtualization features but advanced automation features would require an upgrade of licenses."
  • "I know Nutanix and VxRail have similar prices and licenses. Nutanix is a go-ahead if AHV is used as hypervisor because it is already embedded in the price."
  • "While cost may seem higher than your traditional 3-tier architecture, you need to look at the bigger picture. You're not just buying hardware here. You're buying a complete environment."
  • "Setup cost is minor, pricing is quite a bit (we have a 7-node-cluster for about 450K EUR with 2 vGPU-nodes for Citrix) but that includes hardware, software, and support."
  • "The price is good but I think there is still room for improvement on the price."
  • "Extra features should not be so expensive. We would love to be able to use or even just try some of the extra features without having to buy them. Buying those features is just as expensive as buying vSphere licenses, so the cost savings is nullified."
  • "Work close with your InfraTeam and discuss with Nutanix the best way to achieve sizing and price that are right for you."

I urge all to look past the hot air and hype frenzy that are going on, because in the end, the HC platforms have to be aligned and congruent to the organization’s data architecture and business plans. The announcement of Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant on Integrated Systems (read hyper convergence) has put Nutanix as the leader of the pack as of August 2015. Clearly, many of us get caught up because it is the “greatest feeling in the world”. However, this faux feeling is not reality because there are many factors that made the pack leaders in the Magic Quadrant (MQ). First of all, the MQ is about market perception. There is no doubt that the pack leaders in the Leaders Quadrant have earned their right to be there. Each company’s revenue, market share, gross margin, company’s profitability have helped put each as leaders in the pack. However, it is also measured by branding, marketing, market perception and acceptance and other intangible factors. Secondly, VMware EVO: Rail has split the market when EMC has 3 HC solutions in VCE, ScaleIO and EVO: Rail. Cisco wanted to do their own HC piece in Whiptail (between the 2014 MQ and 2015 MQ reports), and closed down Whiptail when their new CEO came on board. NetApp chose EVO: Rail and also has the ever popular FlexPod. That is why you see that in… Read more →
