We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It has wizards that are very helpful in the installation, and it handles automation as well as virtualization once deployed.""One feature that is very good is the backup and validation process that's built into Era.""AI has been deployed within Nutanix. It's very easy to provision the machine within minutes of the application orders. They can hand those over and work along with the AI team to get the data available quickly for business analysis.""The most valuable feature of Nutanix Database Service is the ability to manage multiple vendors.""We have an enterprise-level backup product that we're required to use, so we don't rely on Era's version. [But] it could be an awesome first-line backup. It's very elegant the way they designed it. It's quick and it doesn't take up nearly as much storage space as traditional backups. It would definitely help to save on tier-one storage.""The patching is the most valuable feature. We spent a lot of time and effort on the patching of our SQL instances after hours. With Nutanix Era, you can schedule and automate them during your normal operational hours (during the day). You schedule all the patching, then everything happens automatically with minor tickets from the engineer. So, our patching, which took four hours, went down to an hour for the engineer. This is much better for us from a return on investment perspective.""There are a lot of options for working with the database.""It is also a single platform, all in one place, and that is a reason we went for this solution. Earlier, we had multiple platforms, the database and the OS, but this is a single platform that helps us with what we are doing."

"It's pretty good at handling replication, even under high load. It also provides cross-database replication, for example, from Sybase to Oracle.""We can customize any workflow and we also like the business domain modeling that can be done.""SAP Replication Server is an application that I consider to be a robust system. It has proven to be highly reliable in my experience.""SAP is renovating different things. We are using external tools to connect as of now. It is going well, and now the new generation integration platforms are going to be pretty easy.""It speeds up the performance in terms of how fast you are able to access the data, look at it, get it reported to you, and send it to somebody. It also reduces the amount of storage."

Cons
"The downside of this solution is that it's more expensive than its competitors.""The patching should be a one-button function. Also, it works about 80 percent of the time, but 20 percent of the time it requires manual intervention. And sometimes, until you understand the technical underpinnings of that process, you can't fix it. I thought we would move past that. In the last version, they broke a big chunk of that for me, and that's why I'm waiting for the new release because they promised me it would fix the problem.""The solution needs to improve compatibility with other back-ups and products.""If there were data integration services included with the platform then it would be interesting, and it would help us a lot.""It should be able to be consumed by other customers because only the enterprise cloud customers are able to buy this software.""Their support is helpful, but maybe they need more technical staff. Their response was slow once, but that was the only time it happened, so I'm not sure.""The updating of the database engine is something that can be improved. For example, assume that we are using PostgreSQL out of the box, and it is version 10. If we want to migrate to version 11, 12, or 13, then it is not very easy to do that using Nutanix Era.""The graphical user interfaces could be much more user-friendly. They are already user-friendly, but they could be simpler so that we do not need L3 staff to handle them. If they were simpler, we could also have some command center or L1/L1.5 associates do some housekeeping activities on it."

"If someone wants to replicate their data from Sybase to a newer technology for data warehousing or other purposes, it would be better if they supported those.""Improvement is a never ending story, and HANA is doing some improvements. We are able to adopt that, and we have to do it by integration with HANA. They are very major changes that we need to see.""I would like to see it become mobile-friendly.""There is room for improvement in terms of pricing and faster support.""The private solution is expensive. If you're in a situation where you're paying IBM or AWS or somebody just to host you specifically, you're paying people to run it and you're taking care of all the upgrades."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The licensed-based pricing is confusing and too high."
  • "Era is quite expensive. The thing that will be a showstopper for them in the long run is if you look at it from a technical perspective on what it provides and weigh it up against consolidation of multiple other software suites."
  • "Licensing costs will be the main scalability problem."
  • "It's priced fairly... It's a good value. When you go looking for something from Oracle that automates things and makes your life easier, it's always going to be a minimum of $500,000. Era's nothing like that."
  • "There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
  • "This solution is reasonably priced."
  • "Not everyone can afford it. It's a bit expensive, so the price has to be improved."
  • "The pricing is competitive."

  • "It's a very expensive solution."
  • "You can pick one of the hosted cloud services as opposed to owning it and doing it yourself. Your cost of ownership on the hardware, the data storage, and the maintenance all go down. It depends on what service you use."
