We performed a comparison between Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) and Oracle Database based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Microsoft, Informatica, Oracle and others in Data Integration."The most valuable features of ODI are the knowledge modules, such as the Loading Knowledge module and the Check Knowledge module, they are helpful. We can check for the constraints in ODI. That helps in figuring out what are the constraints that are the primary keys created in the tables. We can check them with the Check Knowledge module."
"One of the standout features of ODI is its ability to prepare everything on a vertical level and create reusable components, which adds to its value."
"The scalability is great. It's one of the reasons we chose the solution."
"The most valuable features of ODI are the ease of development, you can have a template, and you can onboard transfer very quickly. There's a lot of knowledge modules available that we can use. If you want to connect, for example, a Sibyl, SQL, Oracle, or different products, we don't have to develop them from scratch. They are available, but if it's not, we can go into the marketplace and see if there's a connector there. Having the connector available reduces the amount of hard work needed. We only have to put the inputs and outputs. In some of the products, we use there is already integration available for ODI, which is helpful."
"It's scalable."
"I do not have to maintain a separate ETL instance. I can change the SQL when something is not performing correctly."
"Besides loading data, we do most of our transformations in ODI."
"The product has an ELT approach."
"Oracle Database is a stable solution."
"I like the backend robustness of the database, and the security capabilities inherently that are in the product itself."
"All of the features offered by Oracle, more than meet the expectations."
"From a database product perspective, I would say, they're good in what they provide. There's not much concern."
"It is a reliable database warehouse solution that is transparent to the end user."
"We find the solution to be stable."
"Oracle Database is running on the same old hardware that I had the 11g version on and it is operating faster. It seems to be really good. It's fast even when the workload is heavy, easy to do backups and other administrative tasks with the Enterprise Manager."
"Its security and reliability are most valuable."
"ODI could improve by focusing on streamlining its features without unnecessary overhead."
"If there was an add-on tool to hide the performance issues and solve them for me, then I might be interested in that as it would provide me value."
"The solution lacks some functions and features."
"The stability of the software could be improved. Sometimes, the software just crashes. "
"An area for improvement in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is real-time integration. Currently, my company has a workaround to implement real-time integration, an area on which Oracle must focus more. Real-time integration should be easier in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI). Another area for improvement in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is integration with more publishers and subscribers rather than just database integrations."
"The initial setup is a bit complex compared to other tools."
"We used a third party to do the implementation of ODI."
"Reverse engineering is complicated and challenging to manage."
"They could improve the storage and network overhead."
"Oracle Database has improved how we do our administrative backups. The solution has a smaller footprint than 11g, it's more efficient on the resources for the users. It has a smoother user experience with the ERP and fewer field transactions."
"The initial setup could be easier."
"Oracle is not easy to integrate with other systems, which is something that should be improved."
"The solution could be more scalable."
"The database environment needs to be cheaper. By making it less expensive, Oracle would be more competitive with other database vendors."
"The tool is costly, and migration is hard. We need tools like Database Migration Assistant for Oracle to migrate data between databases. Sometimes, older versions of Oracle are no longer supported, making the transition even more difficult."
"Once you start with Oracle you become locked into it."
