We performed a comparison between SQL Server and Teradata based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Because Teradata is more expensive, has harder initial setup, harder scalability, and fewer features, SQL Server ultimately wins out in this comparison.
"One of the things I most like about SQL Server is the log shipping piece. This is a great feature."
"I have found that SQL Server works very well in the Microsoft Dynamics environment."
"I have found the whole solution with all its features wonderful."
"They have improved the UI and ease of accessing the database and server which is good. You can load it up and start using it from the very minute it is implemented."
"There is no lack of features."
"Easy to implement and user-friendly relational database management system. This product is stable and scalable."
"It is easy to deploy and easy to maintain."
"It is a typical database solution, and it is working well so far. It is easy to use, and it is also very common and popular, which makes it easy to find a support partner."
"Parallel processing features have helped to easily dump any size of data and retrieve data with great performance."
"The most valuable features are the Shared-nothing architecture and data protection functionality."
"The functionality of the solution is excellent."
"Cuts time to process huge amounts of data with efficient analytical queries."
"It has given our business the ability to gain insights into the data and create data labs for analysis and PoCs."
"The feature that we find most valuable is its ability to perform Massive Parallel Processing."
"Their extensive experience in data warehousing, the platform's performance, and their strong reputation in the market are the most valuable."
"It's the same as your visual database. I like the fast load feature for data, the BTQ solution is very good, and storage procedures are very fast."
"It could be more stable."
"The documentation could be much better. It's lacking right now. If there are better help pages, for even complicated queries and stuff like that that would be quite a help for users."
"The Management Studio is a pretty heavy piece of software, and it's sometimes slow. I would recommend making an express version of the Management Studio, which is lighter and has fewer features but is a little faster."
"Its ability to handle certain kinds of large data could be improved."
"In the next release, I would like to see a better user interface and a familiar syntax."
"Scalability of the database could be improved if it could handle increased volumes of data."
"Better integration with other platforms would be an improvement."
"Right now we don't get much technical support from Microsoft"
"Apart from Control-M, it would be nice if it could integrate with other tools."
"Query language and its functionality are rather limited, compared to Oracle or even SQL Server. However, it is possible to perform any kind of logic in it (though some workarounds may be required)."
"Teradata's pricing is quite high compared to Redshift, Synapse, or GCP alternatives."
"The SQL Assistant is very basic. This tool can be improved for usability."
"Teradata is an expensive tool. Like, if you're already using Microsoft products like Windows, they'll market all their products together. And with the rise of cloud technologies, companies will adopt solutions that offer them some privileges or facilities. Similar to how SAP does it in the market, so do Microsoft and other companies. Even Oracle and other such tools are quite commonly seen compared to Teradata's competitors in everyday solutions."
"Limited interest and success in some areas make us hesitate about upgrading."
"The increasing volumes of data demand more and more performance."
"The cloud is the new challenge and the new opportunity."
