Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"A helpful feature for us is the integration with NoSQL databases.""There are many architectures: hybrid, cloud, and on-prem.""The most interesting aspect of the solution for us is that Talend Open Studio has a good balance between the features and the cost of the data management platform.""We're sold on the customization part of the solution.""It is easy to use and covers most of the functions needed. We can use the code without any extra effort. The open source is very good. They have the same commercials with additional connectors. The graphical design environment is also very easy.""Talend lets you do everything — mapping, workflow, and orchestration — in a single place.""The product is easy to install and configure. It is one of the best tools for data integration.""The drag-and-drop feature in the interface is very good."

"Customer support is very efficient.""The most important thing is that it is easy for developers to work with.""The initial setup of TIBCO BusinessWorks was straightforward since we have used the solution in our organization for a long time.""We use the solution to develop applications.""The ability to link to different technologies is valuable to us.""Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten…On a scale from one to ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy, I rate the initial setup a nine.""XML to JSON transformations, out-of-the-box, helps to build REST services.""One of the most valuable features is data transformation. We have some legacy systems which are in old technology, like SOAP, whereas the new ones are in REST. So we use BusinessWorks to transform data from one format to another, from SOAP to REST."

Cons
"The solution should offer better integration with other products.""Talend Open Studio has a lot of capabilities, but there is some restriction. For example, if we want to connect to an SAP system, Open Studio cannot do it. We need to go with an enterprise version. Additionally, the monitoring features could improve.""Talend should improve the log and error handling to better track the errors you find during development. Sometimes it's challenging to see what's causing an issue, and tracking that on Talend is complicated.""In the next release, Open Studio should include cloud storage as an input.""We need more components to be more efficient. We use a lot of components, such as Salesforce, and it's not easy to use. There's are minor bugs and it's not easy to use some of the features.""The profiling perspective needs improvement. Instead of using it in the studio, we are using a different tool which is also provided by Talend. It's redundant.""The server-side should be completely revamped.""It needs better installation configuration for other databases. Although the installation allows you to select another database, this doesn't mean that all connection points in the application point to the database selected. You actually need to do a search through the entire install to locate the configuration settings and change them."

More Talend Open Studio Cons →

"The container-based image is too large and this makes auto-scaling difficult.""Its price can be improved. For medium enterprises, it is a very expensive tool. In the market, you won't get many resources for this solution. You won't find many developers in the market very easily. The latest version of TIBCO (6.4 or 6.x) is not very stable. It has got many issues. We have raised this with TIBCO, and they are taking a lot of time to come up with a fix, which is making us move away from this product. Some of the performance-tuning aspects are also missing in version 6. They should provide performance-related fixes, which will be helpful for the customers. If you are migrating from the current version to the container-supported version, it is quite expensive. The product has evolved, but it is very pricey. That's one of the challenges. They have provided all the features that are there in other products, but this is a platform upgrade. The platform has completely been changed from 5.x to 6.x, and we can't use the same environment. We can't run both versions on the same server as VM. The development environment is entirely different. In version 5.x, there was a proprietary designer. Now, it has common plug-ins developed on top of Eclipse.""They don't support out of the box - you have to buy adapters or you have to have the technology.""TIBCO BusinessWorks could be improved with cloud support.""The cost has room for improvement.""There are multiple plugins which increase the number of product installations.""Scaling with the solution is costly because if we need to scale up, we have to buy more memory. That means more money. Solutions like Camel or Pulsar come with built-in options to scale horizontally, vertically, region-wide or country-wide.""A possible improvement could be to give the capability to use different profiles for each AppNode when an application is deployed on an AppSpace."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing and licensing are fairly straightforward. It is reasonably priced and managed."
  • "Talend is free and you can download it."
  • "The paid version of this solution has a very high price, but even with the limitations, the Community version works fine."
  • "Price could be lower. It is getting too expensive when compared to some other solutions, which is actually a little bit concerning."
  • "There are many versions available and one is open-sourced which is free."
  • "The cost for one year for the ETL tools, not for the big data, is 6K per year. It is a good price."
  • "It does the job well for nothing — without cost. That's the advantage of this product."
  • "Talend Open Studio is priced too high."

  • "My understanding is that the licensing is very costly."
  • "It is a bit expensive for medium-sized companies. If you are migrating from the current version to the container-supported version, it is quite expensive. The existing licensing will not work because the product platform itself is different."
  • "Its price policy has changed quite a lot in the last two years. It was extremely expensive previously. Nowadays, you can buy a license for BusinessWorks for €2000. Looking at what you get in return in terms of support, TIBCO community, and stability, it is fairly reasonable. It is not too expensive."
  • "I think BusinessWorks is more expensive compared to other products. We have the ELA, so at least we have some sort of bargain or discount with that. But for a start-up, it's very expensive compared to other ESBs."
  • "Licensing scheme is too rigid"
  • "I don't have the prices of the products, but I know that TIBCO is not a cheap solution. I think that this solution is more suitable for large companies because I don't think that small- or medium-sized companies would have the money for this solution. WSO2 has the community version for free, so many of the smaller companies can use it. I'm not sure what the prices are for support, though, so I suppose the support for WSO2 is not cheap either."
  • "The solution is too expensive. It's one of the most expensive solutions out there, particularly because there are so many open-source competitors on the market. I don't know the exact numbers, however."
  • "I give the cost of the solution a four out of ten."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the Talend Open Studio solution.

Elio B., Data Integration Specialist/CTO at Asset messages, says, "The solution has a good balance between automated items and the ability for a developer to integrate and extend what he needs. Other competing tools do not offer the same grade of flexibility when you need to go beyond what is provided by the tool. Talend, on the other hand, allows you to expand very easily."

A Practice Head, Analytics at a tech services company mentions, “The data integration aspect of the solution is excellent. The product's data preparation features are very good. There's very useful data stewardship within the product. From a technical standpoint, the solution itself is pretty good. There are very good pre-built connectors in Talend, which is good for many clients or businesses, as, in most cases, companies are dealing with multiple data sources from multiple technologies. That is where a tool like Talend is extremely helpful.”

Prerna T., Senior System Executive at a tech services company, comments, “The best thing I have found with Talend Open Studio is their major support for the lookups. With Salesforce, when we want to relate our child objects to their parent object, we need to create them via IDs. Then the upsert operation, which will allow you to relate a child object to the event, will have an external ID. That is the best thing which keeps it very sorted. I like that.”

An Implementation Specialist, Individual Contributor at a computer software company, states, “I can connect with different databases such as Oracle Database or SQL Server. It allows you to extract the data from one database to another. I can structure the data by filtering and mapping the fields.” He also adds, “It is very user-friendly. You need to know the basics of SQL development or SQL queries, and you can use this tool.”

PeerSpot user Badrakh V., Information System Architect at Astvision, explains, "The most valuable features are the ETL tools."

TIBCO BusinessWorks allows to connect applications, whether on-premises or in the cloud, providing proven reliability and scalability, out-of-the-box. With a drag-and-drop graphical development environment, TIBCO BusinessWorks eliminates the pain and cost of point-to-point application integration, connecting and unifying business processes across applications, data sources, and APIs, with access to real-time data across all your platforms.
