We performed a comparison between AWS Backup and Veeam Backup & Replication based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison results: Based on the parameters we compared, Veeam Backup & Replication comes out ahead of AWS Backup. While the two solutions offer valuable backup functions and capabilities, AWS Backup’s need for manual recovery, potentially lengthy setup, and restoration features leave room for improvement.
"The solution has an effective overwrite feature."
"The most valuable features we have found are the flexibility in the services offered."
"The most valuable feature is the daily incremental site backup."
"The most valuable feature is its ease of use."
"Reporting is one of the key elements that are valuable for C-suite executives. In terms of monitoring, the solution provides comprehensive details into ongoing processes, flagging issues and warnings as necessary."
"When I was using an on-premises backup, there was an external hard drive or something like that. I had a backup server, but I had a few problems related to transfer when I had to restore something that I have deleted. I had to wait for after-office hours to do something like that, but now I just have to send a mail. Within one hour, I have my restored file."
"The advantage that AWS Backup has over competitors is that it's very simple."
"The solution's most valuable features are its backup capability and tight integration with other AWS services."
"Pricing is fairly reasonable and not overly expensive."
"I am not a direct user of this product, but my technical guys tell me that they like the product, and it is easy to use. We don't have any issues with it."
"The WAN accelerator feature has been the most valuable for me. That feature reduced the time needed to complete the task from 25 days to less than a week! This is compared with the original tools used: ntbackup, robocopy and Windows Server Backup."
"It is a rock-solid backup solution. That's all, and that's what we were asking for."
"Replication is most valuable."
"The backup and replication capabilities are quite good."
"It is a flexible, simple, and scalable software-based solution. It has agentless functionality with specific hypervisors and agent-based functionality with specific operating systems. It gives you the flexibility to use your own hardware and back up physical Windows, Linux, IBM AIX, and Oracle Solaris systems as well as VMware VMs, Hyper-V VMs, and Nutanix VMs from one console. It also has integration with major applications that most companies are using, such as Active Directory, SQL, Exchange, or SharePoint. It has integrations, not just for the backup on the image, host layer, or hypervisor, but also for performing an application-consistent backup. It is helpful in backing up to the tape, cloud, DR site, etc. It is really flexible. It is really amazing that you can restore any backup on VMware, Azure, or AWS. As compared to the other solutions in the market. Veeam has really integrated a lot in the past years. It has the best performance and perfect replication."
"The ntegration of physical agents with our cloud connect service is positive."
"The notifications on the backup and on the mobile app could be more useful. If they could arrange notes or notifications properly and offer services for managing it in our region, it would be helpful for us."
"There are some limitations to partial backup in AWS Backup."
"Only the price could be improved."
"If AWS could also add some hybrid cloud features to AWS Backup, that would be a significant improvement. For example, currently, AWS Backup only backs up to the S3 and Amazon Cloud, and you can only restore from the Amazon Cloud only. However, some people have hybrid environments. They have some workloads on-premises and some workloads in the cloud."
"It requires a lot of time to connect the snapshot, identify the files, and restore a single file manually."
"One improvement I would like to see in AWS Backup is the implementation of incremental backups."
"Its cost could be better than a few of its competitors."
"One of the limitations of AWS Backup is that it only does file-based copying."
"The solution could improve by having a version to be compatible with the Linux system. They have improved the storage depository using the Linux proxy and Linux storage, but it can completely run on the Linux environment it would be much better."
"The VMotion feature is not reliable enough to ensure a successful migration operation."
"I would prefer it if the backup console did not require use of a specified program but rather that it could be opened from any website."
"The solution requires a lot of bandwidth."
"Sometimes Veeam is not that effective when it comes to legacy environments."
"I would like them to move back to host licensing."
"I would like for them to develop the ability to fix the way it does backups. We can't pick a backup for one database. We have to do a backup on the whole Exchange VM. I'd like for them to change it to where we can do individual backups."
"I would like to have the capability of backing up a physical machine, as opposed to just a VM."
