Allows for detailed monitoring of applications, including performance metrics and data consumption
At the end of the day, I would say it's a very good product for us because we can monitor how our applications are performing. This is very important for us because it's our own application. We need to know its performance, collect data, visualize, and analyze. We can also improve our product based on the results we see from the monitor. Any issues, we can go into the logs and trace them. We can do tracing as well. There are a lot of features. Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten. My recommendation: If you use a Microsoft product, for example, if you are developing a product in .NET or other Microsoft products, you can use Azure. It's very scalable and works very well. There are many native applications in Azure Systems that can be utilized. For example, if you develop your backend in .NET and use an SQL database or even MongoDB, you can use Azure because it's a native competitor for Microsoft.

The solution has a good auto-instrumentation feature, but its monitoring is pretty weak
We use Instana Dynamic APM to do application monitoring for the OpenShift Container Platform Instana Dynamic APM gave us insight when there wasn't a lot of stuff on the market. The most valuable feature of Instana Dynamic APM is auto-instrumentation. The solution's monitoring is pretty weak and…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"One of the most useful aspects of this solution is the out-of-the-box functionality on all areas, especially on Application Insights, zero instrumentation, and artificial intelligence for event correlation."
"The solution has tons of valuable features."
"The upside to the solution is if you are working in a Microsoft or Azure environment, it makes things easier."
"Azure Monitor is a very easy-to-use product in the cloud environment."
"You can scale the product."
"It's a service from Microsoft, so it will scale."
"In the last company where I worked about a year ago, it looked very simple."
"Recently, they have improved their integration with other resources, so we get even more robust data."
"Visually, it's very good. It provides everything needed for dynamic detection, which is very useful."
"It is a stable solution."
"The overall capabilities are the most valuable."
"With auto-discovery, we didn't need to consider much. We just installed the agent on the host and it was able to detect everything from the host level up to the service level, for whatever stack was installed, and that includes containers and dockers."
"It's great for monitoring services and applications."
"We can easily perform root cause analysis using the tool."
"The platform’s most valuable feature is the ability to monitor the performance of containers for request and response analysis."
"Its GUI is really good and it easy to understand for non-technical users."

Cons

"They can simplify the overall complexity since you have multiple data sources in the cloud for monitoring. It's quite simple, but there are so many portals. It takes time to work with it. If they could simplify the user configuration, that would be good."
"The process of implementation needs to be easier."
"Currently, it seems it's complicated to get the correct information in terms of what to do and how things work."
"Lacks information including details related to where problems lie."
"This solution could be improved with more out-of-the-box functionalities and artificial intelligence to complete event correlation."
"Enhancing and reaching a level of detail that facilitates pinpointing and addressing issues at such a refined level within the application and database components would be helpful."
"n comparison to New Relic, which I've used before, it's a bit more complicated. It's not as easy to use. It also took some time to get it working. The implementation needs to be simpler."
"I would like more transparency when we use the solution with another environment, like on-premises, or on another cloud environment, like AWS or GCP."
"They could improve the product’s dashboards and provide more dashboard options."
"We should be able to go back to scenarios during or before the issue. There should be something like a history playback. Such a feature or functionality would be good."
"Its SLI and SLA features need improvement in setting up alerts."
"Many managers, as well as our customers, used to ask for reports, such as "top X number of queries that are slow," or "top pages that have the highest number of issues." This is something that can be improved by Instana. Currently, they don't have that kind of reporting available out-of-the-box."
"I think that Instana should improve the university and the certification process, so the users can find experts in Instana with their certification module process."
"The auto-remediation features must be improved."
"The configuration of Instana Dynamic APM needs improvement because it requires quite a bit of work."
"The App Connect middleware does not integrate with or show corresponding sub nodes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Azure Monitor is cheaper compared to other third-party monitoring tools."
"My company is okay with the current pricing of the solution."
"Azure Monitor is one of the more cost effective solutions on the market."
"The cost of Azure Monitor application performance should be less expensive."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"Its cost depends on the ingestion of the logs. It could go anywhere. For an out-of-the-box platform such as FrameFlow, you pay pretty much a fixed price and you get what you get, whereas, with something like Azure Monitor, you pay by the ingestion charge, so you can have one client who pays hardly anything for the same alerts, and another client pays loads and loads."
"Azure Monitor is a competitively priced solution."
"The solution’s pricing depends on how much logs it collects."
"Instana Dynamic APM is more affordable for small and medium-sized companies compared to other vendors."
"Its pricing isn't a big pain point. Its pricing seems to be better than some of the other competing products in the market, but they also have some of the features and functionalities that are better than Instana."
"The solution's pricing is comparable to other products."
"The pricing is $1,200 per year which is a bit high compared to other vendors."
"It's reasonably priced and manageable, especially for individuals who grasp the significance of application monitoring."
"The solution is less expensive than one of its competitors."
"Pricing is quite competitive. Dynatrace, AppDynamics, and New Relic were all several times more expensive than Instana, both the on-prem and the SaaS versions. Price-wise they are a lot more competitive than anyone else out there."
