Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Fortinet FortiGate is a scalable solution."
"It's a user-friendly firewall. Most of the tasks are very simple. It's simple to configure and troubleshoot this firewall."
"Their proxy-based inspection is responsive and secure."
"Our project needs to link two sides through the internet. One of these was in Cairo and the other in another city. We used FortiGate as the integrating solution between the two locations, i.e. the Fortinet 30E & 100E."
"The wireless control is helpful."
"The initial setup is straightforward."
"The initial installation is very straightforward."
"The most useful functionality of Fortinet FortiGate is the user interface, multiple engines, and their cloud with the latest integrations. Additionally, the Security Fabric tool is very good."
"The product is quite user-friendly so we didn't have a lot of issues that needed to be addressed."
"The support is good. We don't have any issues with the technical support."
"One top feature is the ability to use the appliance as a WLAN controller for up to 10 access points with the new 5.6 firmware."
"Primarily, the VPN solution is most valuable. It allows you to have more flexibility in terms of what is there on the end-user device, and what is not there. You can check and make sure that they're current. It has more flexibility than just a straight VPN solution. It works really well. It has the features that 99% of people need."
"The initial setup was quite straightforward."
"Use of this product does not require daily interactions."
"The ROI is good since I get free support."
"Overall, it's an excellent solution."
"There are many useful features, such as web security and advanced threat detection."
"The VDOM (Virtual DOM) is a virtualized firewall that has some opportunities for flexibility that are an advantage in certain configurations."
"FortiOS allows us to set up alarms for blocked websites and SSL verifications. When someone tries to access a blocked site, the solution sends a notification to the IT manager's mailbox."
"The most valuable features are the ease of use, and the overall simplicity, everyone can use it with a small introduction."
"We've been happy with the pricing."
"The user experience is great. The graphical user interface is also good."
"We found the initial setup to be straightforward."
"All of the features in this solution are effective and efficient."
"The biggest "gotcha" is that if the client purchases what they call the UTM shared bundle, which has unified threat management on both, it's not as easy to manage if you have more than one firewall."
"Its reporting can be improved. Sometimes, I don't get proper reports."
"Some configuration elements cannot be easily altered once created."
"The solution could have licensing fees reduced in the future."
"It could use more templates for third-party site-to-site VPN setups other than FortiGate and Cisco."
"If I had any criticism that I would give FortiGate, it would be that they need to stop changing their logging format. Every time we do a firmware upgrade, it is a massive issue on the SIM. Parsers have to be rebuilt. Even the FortiGate guys came in and said that they don't play well in the sandbox."
"They should improve high CPU and memory usage that occurs."
"I would like Fortinet to add more automation to FortiGate."
"Customization needs improvement."
"There should be integration with an active directory — with Microsoft."
"Right now, we have two data centers that are a thousand kilometers apart. It would be nice to be able to string them together."
"New versions are complicated with a big configuration."
"Now they do have the ability to pop up a command line, which is nice, however, the fact that you can't do everything within the GUI is probably a problem."
"The log settings and filters could use some improvement."
"Technical support could be better."
"The technical support is not very responsive and is an area that needs to be improved."
"Right now, it's very trendy to integrate everything into the cloud. This solution would be more effective if they did more integration in that regard."
"There is room for improvement in the reporting part. The reporting is only for logging data, and it's just a tabulation of the log in the report. I would like to be able to take down more information in the event of an incident."
"The solution needs to adjust its pricing models. With the way they are structured, everything is very disparate and sold separately, and, depending on the solution, it can get quite pricey."
"The reporting and monitoring could improve, they have a lot of limitations. The monitoring is not easy compared to the other firewall."
"Right now, we have to contend with CLI. We'd like it to be easier. We need the features to be in a UI."
"Fortinet needs to make this solution even more robust. Sometimes when we get a DDoS attack, the cannot withstand it. We can run out of sessions very easily. That said, I suppose if you want more a robust system, then you could purchase higher-end solutions, which are more expensive. Still, I would like to see more protection from even in the low-end version."
"The pricing of the product is too high."
"The threat time interval lags a little, especially if there's a heavy load on the firewall."

In the best tradition of these questions, Feature-wise both are quite similar, but each has things it's better at, it kind of depends what you value most.
PA is good at app control, web filtering and such like, they have always been top of the pile there. The GUI is very good, and their product is very user-focused.
Fortinet is good for scalability and predictable high throughput (ASICs in the hardware), and useful things like authentication flexibility, CLI config (if you have any networking/Cisco people, they always seem to prefer CLI over GUI) and have better OT features, maybe relevant to your manufacturing use?
Fortinet seem to have a broader integration offering with their security fabric than PA do, plus they can do Fortinet-based wifi, switching, etc. Depends if you are prepared to go all-in with a single vendor.
