We performed a comparison between HPE SimpliVity and SteelFusion based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Dell Technologies, VMware, Nutanix and others in HCI."The fact that we can expand our storage and add on to our compute nodes easily and how amazing the StarWind technical support team is really adding value to our purchase."
"The management and monitoring have been very easy since the solution's dashboard is very simple and user-friendly."
"StarWind allows us to move virtual machines from one physical host to another, which greatly reduces the downtime required for maintenance."
"VSAN works great; it's very easy to install, configure, and manage."
"I like StarWind's high availability. The failover is almost immediate, so the end users have no idea the guest VM moved at all. We can failover all guest VMs onto a single hypervisor, place it into maintenance mode, install updates, and reboot a hypervisor all during the daytime and remotely, with confidence the process will be successful."
"Their support staff is comprised of true experts who can also communicate clearly."
"Recovery and maintenance are now less stressful and most importantly, it allows our users to keep working."
"StarWind vSAN has allowed us to grow rapidly while still providing flexibility and reliability."
"We can backup with more frequency and minimize RPO and RTO."
"The most valuable feature is high availability."
"Its simplicity is most valuable. The management is easy, and you don't have to have a lot of knowledge about storage, network, etc. It is simple to manage and simple to implement, and that's its key feature."
"It has reduced my data center activities."
"The setup is very easy."
"Technical support is perfect. They explain to us the solution in a very clear and simple way. When we call them, they know the right answer and get the right person automatically."
"HPE SimpliVity is simple, it's very friendly."
"Its performance and availability are most valuable."
"Sync to Central and edge protection mitigate my risk in our branch offices. All services that need to be local to the user exist on local servers. Users run applications and access data locally while the data is constantly being synced to Central, and protected. If an edge device fails, we can recover quickly."
"The initial setup got a little confusing at a few points with differences between the VMware version in documentation vs the latest, etc."
"This is a great product."
"I wish the sync after a failure, such as hardware failure or power-related issues, for example, was faster."
"There should be publicly available tutorials on YouTube or other platforms that help the users to integrate this solution with other platforms, for example."
"It would help if the manufacturer provided clearer and more detailed documentation, with explanations of how the application can be installed in various HA configurations."
"StarWind relies on the underlying OS to manage the "SAN files" whether that would be a RAID volume, software RAID (such as LVM), etc. It would be useful if StarWind could incorporate the actual physical drive management inside of the solution, similar to Storage Spaces Direct."
"I want to suggest that the complexity of the startup and shutdown procedure needs to be reduced."
"They need to improve the speed of the interfaces, thus allowing for better traffic on the network."
"It would be better if it could integrate more easily with other vendors."
"The solution could have an optimization site."
"Its performance can be faster."
"The solution could improve by adding better support of the VMware add-ons and a more intuitive user interface for administrators."
"I wish to see an improved compute node selection, to allow us to select something other than merely the two socket system."
"HPE support is still not aware/trained on SimpliVity, and this is beginning to show."
"The installation process could be simplified. It's a bit technical for non-IT users."
"There is a file size limitation when you want to do an individual file restore, but they might have resolved this in newer versions. As I'm taking backups at the VM server level, I can restore a file from any one of those without standing up the VM, and I can restore it to any mounted VM that I want. The problem is that there is a file size limitation. It becomes problematic when I'm trying to restore. When I want to restore a backup of a SQL database, my backups are considerably larger than 10 gigs. So, the only way to restore that backup file is to mount the entire VM somewhere and then copy it, which doesn't take long at all."
"Setting up disks for use is a multi-step process that could use some refinement. Setting up a core-to-core replication or DR strategy is also cumbersome."
