We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution has great reporting and forecasting capabilities.""The main features of this solution are that it is easy to use, intuitive, and user-friendly. When I retrieve the data from the database it is in a very raw form, then when I use the Oracle Report Builder it has advanced intelligence features to allow me to view and make changes to the data easily.""I like the cloud deployment feature. There are about 20 new features, and they are available on mobile and more. I haven't used any of them, but these features are highly attractive.""It has helped to consolidate data and report on a single version of the truth.""Oracle OBIEE is good for data visualization and analytical reporting.""Oracle OBIEE is a scary and stable product since it is a strong and well-created tool... In short, the solution is stable since it works properly every day.""It's easy to use for business analysts.""The centralized metadata model component is most valuable."

"I like Tableau's heat maps and the storyboard. You can create data stories and tons of visuals with it, and it goes together really well. Tableau lets you manipulate the data in various ways.""It's very easy to use and users don't need any IT support to access it as the information is right there.""From the data science point of view, we use it for model building purposes. For example, if we are using it for a bank and we want to understand how much loan the bank can provide, we can use visualization to show the educational qualification, salary, gender, and city of a customer, and by using this information, we can arrive at the loan amount that this person is eligible for. I can also use it to view all prospective customers, so essentially, this is going to help me in model building as well as in understanding and segmenting customers and doing forecasting and predictive analytics. We use model widgets, and we can create thousands of visualizations, such as motion charts and bubble charts. We can also create animated versions of the graphs and view the data from multiple dimensions. These are the features that we typically use and like.""The most valuable feature is the user experience.""While using this solution I have found the valuable features to be ease of use and the visualization. It is a complete solution.""There are already connectors to almost every single major database and service that you can possibly think of.""The Web Editing capabilities allow us to grant end users enough capabilities for them to do self-serve discovery without the added cost of needing to get everyone desktop licenses.""Tableau will automatically show charts for the related data that I choose making it very easy to use."

Cons
"The performance could be better.""Warehouse and business intelligence are two different things, but OBIEE also has some warehouse features in it. I would like to see some of those capabilities improved.""An area for improvement is that Oracle pushes more users to Oracle BI Publisher rather than emphasizing Oracle OBIEE for reporting. The pricing for Oracle OBIEE could be improved.""It is very biased towards Oracle infrastructure. One of the major red flags we have at the moment against Oracle is that it doesn't support deployment on other cloud providers. We're quite heavily vested in AWS as our infrastructure, and Oracle is yet to formally support deploying on those virtual infrastructure instances. That's quite disappointing, and it also cuts them out of over 70% of the market.""The complexity of this product means that you need to have a technical team to develop the reports, although this is also true for products like Microsoft BI and Zoho.""It was a little bit tedious to install a new release.""For a beginner, this is a product that is difficult to learn. You cannot learn it quickly.""The main problem we face is migrating all of the reports into the solution."

More Oracle OBIEE Cons →

"The data processing in Tableau is pathetic compared to Qlik.""When you're working on a dashboard, you can't select multiple components at a time and align them, so you have to go one by one. This is very cumbersome.""They need to improve the icons and the filters, because they look too old, resembling Excel from 1997.""Tableau could be improved by introducing a data manipulation layer within the tool itself. Currently, data manipulations require using additional tools like Alteryx. If Tableau included these capabilities, it would reduce the need for external dependencies. The tool gets slower when we feed huge amounts of data.""The cost of owning the solutions from Tableau is much higher compared to any other analytical solutions.""The data preparation could integrate better with Tableau.""I would like them to include the Italian language, as I can see there are other foreign language in the product.""The customization requires a lot of effort and should be simplified. The performance could be better."

    Reviews from Real Users

Sandeep V., Process System Engineer at a comms service provider, tells us, “This solution is very easy for people who are building ad-hoc things. It's an enterprise solution so it can be deployed for a lot of users. There are some great new features that come with the 12c like data visualization, desktop BI Publisher, automation, and interactive dashboards. The product has good features. “

A user who is a CEO at a consultancy relates, “The most valuable feature is the visualization. The data warehousing, data storage, and data wrangling are all features that are in there, and it's one of the better products out there. A good thing is that for large datasets, it's very stable, especially when you have an Oracle database.”

A user who is a Principal Business Intelligence Architect at a computer software company suggests, "It is very biased towards Oracle infrastructure. One of the major red flags we have at the moment against Oracle is that it doesn't support deployment on other cloud providers. We're quite heavily vested in AWS as our infrastructure, and Oracle is yet to formally support deploying on those virtual infrastructure instances. That's quite disappointing, and it also cuts them out of over 70% of the market."
