We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"They offer top-tier support.""I've had to open a few support cases over the years due to administrator errors, and the support received was top-notch.""I like StarWind's high availability. The failover is almost immediate, so the end users have no idea the guest VM moved at all. We can failover all guest VMs onto a single hypervisor, place it into maintenance mode, install updates, and reboot a hypervisor all during the daytime and remotely, with confidence the process will be successful.""With an uptime of 384 days, StarWind has improved overall server reliability.""In our case, the cost and high availability are the two most important factors which we were looking for in a solution.""It has given the company an almost zero possibility of downtime.""The virtual tapes can be uploaded to the object storage of your choice with object locking/governance which gives you an extra layer of protection.""Support keeps track of alerts of the system and verifies with us if we need help to fix any issues. They have great and quick technical support."

"It is very scalable. It is also very secure. Cisco's security portfolio is integrated with it, which makes it secure. It is a platform-based device. Its performance is also fairly good in comparison to any other solution.""By configuring networks, we are saving power.""The flexibility is its most valuable feature; the ability to quickly deploy a number of help machines. It is not constrained by what we want to do.""The workload can handle anything and has an extended capacity.""The most valuable feature is that you can manage the whole cluster from the traffic interconnect.""It allows us to authorize our residents to come in using their own personal devices to access any of our clinical applications and ensure that the PHI is secure and protected.""It saves space for data centers, which is good.""Deduplication is a valuable feature available in Cisco HyperFlex."

"We find the initial implementation process simple and straightforward.""The tool's most valuable feature is high availability.""The most valuable feature of Dell vSAN Ready Nodes is the flexibility of the nodes. Additionally, if there are any critical issues they update us through emails. The issues are taken care of remotely on the system.""No concerns regarding the footprint in the data center.""I have found the most important features of Dell EMC vSAN Ready Nodes are the capacity to manage the storage because the storage is built in the servers. The type of profiles you can attribute to the storage is a benefit. You can manage the storage by profiles. Overall the solution is a good speed and performance.""It is easy to install.""They are heading in the right direction and moving to integrate everything with a hybrid cloud, and moving workloads back and forth.""The product is useful for DR and other things."

Cons
"There is no Italian-language version of the software available.""A web management interface would be good, especially for those coming from other solutions that have one.""Besides not being able to use any filesystem, I do not have any additional cons.""I would like to see some additional, and possibly clearer, implementation videos with some slower and possibly more detailed descriptions of what the various steps of implementation are for someone who is unfamiliar with high availability and failover clustering in Windows.""The most disappointing side of the application is the free edition. There used to be GUI attached. That has recently changed to only CLI management of the application.""Our company was hoping for deduplication and encryption across HCI. That is currently not supported.""It runs until it does not - and disaster recovery documentation is sparse and mostly unclear.""I would definitely like to see quite a bit more on the monitoring side of things."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"The additional feature I would like to see included in the next release of this solution is more security. We want to add more data servers to all the hosts all over the world. We have 140 hosts that connect to one data center in Manila.""The initial setup is very complex because there were some issues. It is not clear to how set up this solution.""The setup was complex, especially since we usually do all the planning, sizing, and workflows before integration.""You have to get the same servers with the same storage; they need to be identical. However, in vSAN or in VMware we don't have to do that. We can just add storage and manage it in the same server.""I would like a lighter product; something which can be carried by a mere human. The typical size still looks like a stack of data center-sized servers, which is typically fine, but not so good if you want to carry it around.""The infrastructure team thinks that there are a lot of issues.""Lacks some integration and documentation could be improved.""If we compare it with VMware, the VMware product is basically very open, and it can be easily integrated with any platform. VMware product is also available on the cloud and is not an appliance-based product, whereas Cisco HyperFlex is an appliance-based product. Companies that want to use HCI as a platform or as a service would prefer something without an appliance. A SaaS-based product is better for a customer who is using the cloud and has multiple resources, workflows, and devices on the cloud and wants to go for a hyper-converged solution. This is where improvement is needed. In addition to an appliance-based product, Cisco should provide a SaaS-based product. Its price should be lower. Cisco needs to work on the pricing model for this product. Its price is a big road blocker when competing against Nutanix and VMware, which are its main competitors."

More Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series [EOL] Cons →

"This product is not sufficiently scalable.""Compatibility with other hardware nodes needs to be improved.""Dell EMC vSAN Ready Nodes is a great hyper-converged system that is a perfect platform for supporting any kind of workload. The only workload that it's not designed to support is big data.""The product's price is an area of concern where improvements are required. The price of Dell vSAN Ready Nodes could be lowered.""Upgrades are carried out manually.""The solution doesn't scale.""Scalability is an area that could be improved. We are looking at a maximum of 32 nodes now in a cluster, but going to 64 or 128 would be a major advantage.""There is room for improvement in the maintenance pricing. Maintenance isn't difficult, but the prices are high and ridiculous. Some customers feel it is better to go with a new solution rather than renew this one."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "Cisco is quite expensive, but not in the initial first buy."
  • "Pricing is better if you buy more Cisco products."
  • "The pricing is a bit expensive."
  • "For customers in the private sector, this product can have a very high return on investment."
  • "If you don't look at the costs of the systems, the scalability is quite good."
  • "The price is a bit high. It could be better, but the product is worth the cost."
  • "I would like the pricing to be cheaper."
  • "Comparable solutions with switches, storage, and services are cheaper than HyperFlex. It should be cheaper."

  • "There is a problem, which is the lack of an integrated price structure."
  • "The price of the solution was reasonable."
  • "We have a four-year contract to use Dell EMC vSAN Ready Nodes."
  • "Comparing the price of Dell vSAN Ready Nodes to other solutions it is not expensive."
  • "The tool's pricing is competitive compared to others. The tool's licensing is based on annual subscriptions."
  • "My company makes yearly payments towards the licensing charges attached to the solution. The solution is expensive."
