Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"IBM Spectrum Protect is stable.""We have a very good team of administrators who know the product perfectly and are able to manage it on a day-to-day basis.""Some of the people in our group, like our DBAs and non-technical people, can restore some stuff themselves via Spectrum Protect. That is how simple it is.""We have been using it for several years, and it is quite reliable and predictable. We are quite comfortable with this solution. They're coming up with new features as well. It has good scalability, and it provides good integrations with business-critical applications or databases, such as SAP HANA. It works as expected, and we don't see any issues.""The best part of this solution is that it just works.""The solution is mostly stable.""I've had no problems with the stability of this solution.""We do not lose data. That is why we are using this product and have a backup in place."

"The solution offers a very straightforward deployment. You click, click, click and it's done. There's not much configuration to do.""The solution is scalable.""The most valuable feature is the ease of use.""The solution integrates well with other tools.""The tool has enough documentation; you don't need to contact the support team.""The feature I find most valuable is the offload to Spectrum Protect for long-term retention. I think the deduplication and replication are quite nice on Plus.""This is a multi-platform backup solution where you can take a backup from AIX, Windows, or Linux servers and restore from CD, disk, or tape.""With this product, we now have a reliable backup solution."

Cons
"The installation process could be simplified.""We need better protection from ransomware or the ability to identify ways we can protect ourselves from ransomware. Having backups is one thing, but specifically, we need methods to recover if we have a ransomware attack.""Software-wise, IBM Spectrum Protect didn't handle virtual machines that well. The license cost is mainly the area for improvement in IBM Spectrum Protect.""The Hyper-V and SQL Server backup could be improved. In the 2016 version there was a significant improvement, but I think IBM has a big challenge with these technologies.""They should have a proper technical support team serving the customers and get issues resolved earlier.""It lacks reporting and an efficient alert mechanism. The GUI could also be improved.""Integration with Windows environments needs improvement. It should be more "assisted", both at the application and database level. It remains a product that fits better in Unix/Linux environments than in Windows environments, given its configuration procedures.""It needs BMR (bare machine recovery) solutions for both Windows and Linux systems."

More IBM Spectrum Protect Cons →

"The backup support for IBM Power Virtualization needs to be added.""Instead of using the command prompt for troubleshooting and administering the backup, there should be an easy-to-use graphical user interface.""The solution should allow for backup of iOS snapshots.""Not particularly user friendly.""There could be better integration with Spectrum Protect and Spectrum Protect Plus, it should be one solution.""I would like more integration with security. We need to show the value of the product in regards to handling security. For example, how it handles current malware or viruses. IBM should be more proactive in this direction.""The replication feature is not available.""It requires much more automation features."
