Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The iPaaS functionality is very mature. The browser based IDE is also very mature and stable.""Very effective with its drag-and-drop feature.""The platform is user-friendly.""This solution has a user-friendly interface and very good documentation with solutions that helped us in working with the tool efficiently.""This is a fairly easy-to-use tool for integration which can be self-taught for those with a bit of a technical background.""It's very user-friendly and designed to be easy to use for the end user.""Low-code development is the most valuable feature.""The most valuable feature of the solution is its monitoring part to debug certain issues and find problems."

"It has the ability to be deployed into the cloud through Data Factory, and run completely as a software as a service in the cloud.""It is easily scheduled and integrates well with SQL Server and SQL Server Agent jobs.""SSIS' best feature is SFTP connectivity.""It is also easy to learn and user-friendly. Microsoft is also good in terms of technical support. They have built a large community all over the world.""With this solution, there is the potential to expand, so that you can immediately write code onto the SQL server.""The reporting on the solution is perfect. I didn't expect to see reporting features, but they are great.""The initial setup of this solution is very straightforward.""The setup was easy. All Microsoft products are easy to set up."

Cons
"The product could be a little bit more user-friendly.""They are lacking in some streaming features, and messaging features from a listener's point of view.""The deployment was simple, but the implementation is missing a lot of capabilities.""They should create a custom connector option. With this, they could improve where the user can create the connector, based on their usage.""The API can use some work to come up to speed with the competition but Dell has plans and is working on resolving that.""In day-to-day operations, tracking transactions is a major challenge. It takes hours to track a single transaction. It is not a straightforward process.""The product's UI could be more convenient.""It is a costly platform. Its pricing could be better."

More Boomi iPaaS Cons →

"It needs more integration tools, so you can connect to different sources.""I have a tool called ZappySys. I need that tool to cut down on the complexity of SSIS. That tool really helps with a quick turnaround. I can do things quickly, and I can do things accurately. I can get better reporting on errors.""I would like to see more features in terms of the integration with Azure Data Factory.""SSIS is stable, but extensive ETL data processing can have some performance issues.""SSIS is cumbersome despite its drag-and-drop functionality. For example, let's say I have 50 tables with 30 columns. You need to set a data type for each column and table. That's around 1,500 objects. It gets unwieldy adding validation for every column. Previously, SSIS automatically detected the data type, but I think they removed this feature. It would automatically detect if it's an integer, primary key, or foreign key column. You had fewer problems building the model.""Involving a data lake or data engineering aspects would be useful. While it is there, we need more features included.""There are a lot of things that Microsoft could improve in relation to SSIS. One major problem we faced was when attempting to move some Excel files to our SQL Server. The Excel provider has a limitation that prevents importing more than 255 columns from a particular Excel file to the database. This restriction posed a significant issue for us.""The high prices attached to the product can be an area of concern where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The Platinum package is good for licensing, but I’m not sure about the cost and improvements."
  • "They do not charge by the number of people using the software (client-server model), but rather they charge based on the number of connections used. This makes it very cost effective."
  • "The licensing model of Dell Boomi is based on a ‘pay-per-use’ model."
  • "This solution is very economical (based on the connections)."
  • "The pricing is a bit complex. While the entry fee may be lower than other solutions, it could be expensive depending on your usage."
  • "When it comes to pricing, it's not so much about being less expensive as it is about how they don't tie to the hardware on the underlined VMware that you run on, as other vendors do"
  • "The cost of the solution is in the neighborhood of $20,000 annually. There are no costs above the standard licensing fee."
  • "Approximately 20k annually."

  • "This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers."
  • "My advice is to look at what your configuration will be because most companies have their own deals with Microsoft."
  • "This solution is included with the MSSQL server package."
  • "It would be beneficial if the solution had a less costly cloud offering."
  • "Based on my experience and understanding, Talend comes out to be a little bit expensive as compared to SSIS. The average cost of having Talend with Talend Management Console is around 72K per region, which is much higher than SSIS. SSIS works very well with Microsoft technologies, and if you have Microsoft technologies, it is not really expensive to have SSIS. If you have SQL Server, SSIS is free."
  • "We have an enterprise license for this solution."
  • "It comes bundled with other solutions, which makes it difficult to get the price on the specific product."
  • "All of my clients have this product included as part of their Microsoft license."

Technology has made it easier for businesses to organize and manipulate data to get a clearer picture of what’s going on with their business. Notably, ETL tools have made managing huge amounts of data significantly easier and faster, boosting many organizations’ business intelligence operations There are many third-party vendors offering ETL solutions, but two of the most popular are PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services). Each technology has its advantages but there are also similarities on how they carry out the extract-transform-load processes and only differ in terminologies. If you’re in the process of choosing ETL tools and PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS made it to your shortlist, here is a short comparative discussion detailing the differences between the two, as well as their benefits. Package Configuration Most enterprise data integration projects would require the capacity to develop a solution in one platform and test and deploy it in a separate environment without having to manually change the established workflow. In order to achieve this seamless movement between two environments, your ETL technology should allow the dynamic update of the project’s properties using the content or a parameter file or configuration. Both Informatica and SSIS support this functionality using different methodologies. In Informatica, every session can have more than one source and one or more destination connections.
