Features: Cohesity DataProtect offers instant recovery and built-in integration with Office 365 and Active Directory. Users say Zerto offers excellent data protection, and it’s easy to create VMs. Cohesity DataProtect users have suggested enhancements to its user interface, rollback methodology, and cloud data recovery. Other pain points include file server capacity and legacy platform support. Zerto users also like its real-time replication features. Zerto could improve cloud environment configuration, PowerShell scripting, and multi-site replication.
Service and Support: The customer service experiences for Cohesity DataProtect have been mostly positive, but some say the quality of Cohesity's support may differ depending on the region. Customers have generally had positive experiences with Zerto's customer service, noting their quick response times and ability to resolve issues. Some customers have encountered slower response times and needed to go through multiple levels of support to get their issues resolved.
Ease of Deployment: Most users consider the setup process for Cohesity DataProtect to be easy, although a few found it more complex than other products. The setup process for Zerto can be either simple or complicated, depending on the individual's experience with backup solutions.
Pricing: Cohesity's pricing is higher than its competitors, although some customers consider it affordable. Zerto’s price tag is considered reasonable and in line with industry norms. Others said it was somewhat expensive but still worth the cost.
ROI: Cohesity DataProtect provides security against ransomware and efficient file retrieval. Zerto reduces risks while saving costs and time. It increases efficiency, ensures compliance, and helps businesses grow.
Comparison Results: Cohesity is regarded as an affordable solution that offers instant recovery and superior ransomware protection. However, users say its customer service is inconsistent across regions, and its rollback methodology has room for improvement. Zerto offers top-tier data protection, excellent customer service, and real-time replication, but some users say its cloud and multi-site functionality could be better.
"The ease of use and the GUI have really been most valuable to us. Configuring the system to do what we need is simple and straight forward and a lot of guesswork has been removed. One of my favorite features with Cohesity is Kroll for Exchange item-level recovery. The software is simple to use and fast."
"I found value in the instant recovery with DataMove. I found value in the protection group model for applying policies to VMs. And in the overall UI navigation and the way that the application is laid out in the web browser."
"We are saving valuable datacenter rack space, which is critical as we evaluate co-location options."
"Converged system. It makes much more sense to have the backup server running on the same hardware as the storage for backup and recovery."
"It has a lightning fast restore."
"The most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect are SpanFS and the handling of hybrid workloads."
"With instant DR failover using SiteContinuity, we are able to keep our files available no matter the situation."
"The support is awesome. They are very fast, competent and friendly."
"The stability is good, and I have never had any customers say anything bad about it. Some have used it for years and have not had any problems."
"The quickness and efficiency of creating snapshots, on a real-time basis, is one of the most valuable features. Whenever changes are made on a server, Zerto starts taking snapshots right away and replicating them to the DR site. It's very effective and very quick."
"We own another solution called VMware Site Recovery Manager, SRM. We have licenses for our entire environment and we still decided not to use it. That's how big the difference was in the experience that Zerto provides."
"Zerto is scalable."
"Zerto has helped reduce our organization's DR testing to seconds to minutes. We have been able to save probably close to 200 hours a year."
"We relocated all our virtual machines from Belgium to Budapest, Hungary. I am not sure how we would have done it without Zerto, because we were able to keep the data in sync. We would have needed to have a lot more expensive storage products online at the time that could have kept that replication. From what I have seen from other methods, that would have required a much higher amount of bandwidth as well, then the cost would have been extreme. The mechanisms available to us with a storage space replication would have been more labor-intensive and prone to error. It was much easier and more successful with Zerto than other ways at our disposal."
"The DR - Disaster Recovery - is the main selling point."
"The dashboard was easy and the UI was simple."
"I'd like to be able to pause a backup while it's running and have it resume when I tell it to resume."
"Cohesity DataProtect can improve in the area of databases. We have had some challenges with both Cohesity and Rubrik being able to effectively back up in a timely manner the SQL Oracle workloads."
"In terms of the product itself, there have been a handful of patches that have had to be applied outside of the GUI via the command line. It's very straightforward and easy and in the same redundant fashion, but not quite as simple as one or two clicks. I'm hoping that will decrease going forward."
"The support team sometimes takes a long time to resolve issues, although, in our experience, these have been specific things like SQL blobs."
"Physical RDMs on virtual machines could be a bit easier to configure and plan out."
"In terms of what could be improved, it just needs some maturity."
"If someone were to change an admin account password, I would like an alert raised for that, which is not available at the moment."
"Their UI requires a manual refresh. It doesn't seem like it updates itself sometimes when you're moving from screens or waiting for a change to take effect, so you have to manually refresh."
"The solution is very expensive."
"Compared to other products, I would praise the intuitiveness of the product. But I think that can always be improved. The intuitiveness of the graphical user interface, while it is very solid and I don't have issues navigating it. I would say that it can always be improved."
"Even though Zerto is for disaster recovery, it would be nice if it can also make backups."
"Their data backup and restore have some ways to go."
"They could iron out the licensing aspect of it, so we might be a bit quicker when implementing and starting to use it."
"If I were to nitpick, I would say that I wish I had a better account manager. Our sales guy has changed a couple of times. I would like a little more responsiveness from our account manager. I've had a couple of issues where getting in touch with him has been a little difficult, and I end up just going around him and dealing with support and support has handled it right away."
"There are still some pieces in testing that aren't automated. There are still some built-in scripts or workflows I wish Zerto would do out-of-the-box, versus having to PowerShell or have a vendor create it, or create it myself."
"Zerto's near-synchronous replication is excellent when it works. I'm trying to be nice to them because I like the product a lot, but we're having a lot of difficulty with it in our environment."
