We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Remote access and detailed monitoring help us support our equipment.""ConnectWise Automate's interface is pretty easy to use. It's pretty intuitive to get around and navigate it. It does what I need, which is usually connecting to the client and customers systems.""It allows us to manage all client requests, jobs and invoicing.""The most value we get from this solution is that everything is on a patch cycle.""A good automated scripts feature.""This product saves us a lot of time and increases our efficiency.""Maybe they could improve the capability to be multi-tenant.""It's a very good IT tool for a company that provides IT services. It is very helpful for technicians to work with the tool to see all of the customers in one place and then manage all of the computers in one place."

"PRTG is integrated on Windows.""Technical support has been very helpful so far.""One of the valuable features is the diversity of metrics available to us to monitor. It's all there, it's all in the box. It's all made very easy, by virtue of it being pre-configured.""The up-to-date graphs and the history are very good.""It is a central solution in terms of how to actually use it. It has a very easy dashboard. Everything is concise. We are able to create custom sensors. For different parts of the business, we have many products across many environments, and it works for everything.""The feature whereby it shows when my hard drives are moving towards thresholds that would be considered outages, before they reach that point - that is valuable.""Technical support is helpful.""Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."

Cons
"Technical support was helpful.""The fixed client for Automate is slow. The web client is not very intuitive.""The project management needs improvement and there's a section of the product called configuration that also needs to be improved.""The menu doesn't always load properly.""They always change the GUI to some dumb-down version of tiles which are more "user-friendly", but slows my team down in the end.""This is a raw system. Of course, it has some flaws that could be improved. But, it's something that we will have to work with to get to the point where we need this, we request it and they do their best to make it happen.""We would love to get feature updates and cumulative updates fixed. I know they aren't really supposed to be pushed with Patch Manager. We've got recommendations from ConnectWise to use the scripted feature update installs, scripted KB updates, etc. Having these in Patch Manager itself would be great.""Patching and reporting need improvements, especially reporting. The reporting engine is quite outdated, so you end up having to use your own dashboard."

"Their penetration within the market could be much better. If their pricing was lower, even though it's reasonable now, it might help them achieve this.""They should work on syncing the solution with Gmail.""PRTG Network Monitor can improve the reports. In the reports, you have to give an alert for that SMS and email, the emergency calls and downtimes have to be reported accordingly. You have to enable email services or an SMS gateway service to receive more alerts at the proper time.""Maybe in the future there will be room for improvement, but currently, there is nothing pressing that I can think of""When using PRTG Network Monitor it is beneficial if you have prior experience with it, the user interface could improve.""I know we're going to move to Docker applications and I understand that PRTG does some monitoring regarding this. I do not know if it is complete. If it's not yet complete, it's something they should consider improving.""While the desktop app is good, they could slightly improve it. We would like it to be a single pane of glass. At the moment, you can only see certain portions of information. You have to scroll through to make it more granular. We want them to develop the desktop app to be more user-friendly.""We need something that is more predictive. We would prefer if it wasn't a solution that was corrective and instead offered predictive insights so that we can handle problems before they even occur."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
