We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The single dashboard is a valuable feature.""We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Pros →

"Device monitoring is a good tool of this solution.""Defining thresholds and other alerting criteria is fairly simple and would not require a lot of training. This is very useful if you are managing a large environment.""It helps us a lot for monitoring our servers in one console, instead of going to individual servers.""The detections are fine when they work.""We don't have to keep an eye on it; it has a good automation option, which keeps us informed. It gives very less false positives. Overall, a really great product.""The solution is scalable.""The setup was easy.""The features we found most valuable in ManageEngine OpManager are the probe server and reporting because they're pretty good features."

More ManageEngine OpManager Pros →

"The most valuable feature is the ability to span multiple technologies and multiple vendors.""One of the valuable features is the diversity of metrics available to us to monitor. It's all there, it's all in the box. It's all made very easy, by virtue of it being pre-configured.""The most valuable features of PRTG Network Monitor are user-friendly, and the graphical interface is good for all the network devices that are mapped in this organization. It's very easy to find reports for any devices that we are looking for.""It is pretty simple to use, which is always a good thing. It's been very reliable in updating us if any issues crop up.""The remote probes are very useful. They allow us to provide a reference across different areas in the network. In trying to localize issues, that's very useful.""The initial setup is very simple.""PRTG gives us true visibility of the downtime of particular circuit functions. So if a circuit is up but not routing traffic, I will know with this tool. I can write a customized script for a sensor to detect specific things.""There was only one feature I liked about PRTG Network Monitor a lot, and that was bandwidth monitoring, though, in the newer versions of the tool, that feature is now a bit lacking. Pricing for PRTG Network Monitor is also not as expensive. It's a good tool, even for beginners."

Cons
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement.""The technical support needs improvement."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Cons →

"The solution is a bit difficult to configure. There are quite a number of configurations and plugins that you must handle early in the process.""It would be great if there were some sort of artificial intelligence feature which would help us make improvements in the network once we find an issue, and do it automatically.""What I'd like ManageEngine OpManager to improve on is artificial intelligence. In particular, the machine learning feature should be integrated with the sensor flow. Doing this will give leverage, especially when you look at other products such as the Cisco DNA Center. When a switch goes down, I should be able to build on the correlation of other physical devices it's connected to so that I can integrate that with my CA CMDB. The ManageEngine OpManager team needs to draw a long-term roadmap where that feature becomes an integral part of the solution because right now, machine learning in ManageEngine OpManager is a long process. The solution doesn't have MLS search and I want to see ML being developed and applied for CA CMDB to greatly reduce the burden of tying everything. For example, if I have a data center switch that goes down now, I should know what server it's connected to, and when that switch goes down at twenty-four ports, I would get twenty-four alerts for different devices plugged in. I should be able to make a correlation that the major problem lies in the switch and not with the twenty-four elements connected to that switch. That is where machine learning should come into play and the ManageEngine OpManager AI should indicate "This is where the root of your problem is." It could be difficult, but this is a feature that should be improved or added to the solution.""ManageEngine OpManager can improve by having better updates for critical issues.""It is sometimes difficult to manage the user interface. It can get very complicated.""With regard to configurations, however, it would be nice to have more documentation on SNMP configurations. For example, if I want to add a new vendor, it would be great if ManageEngine provided the requirements for that vendor, such as the commands needed.""The only problem with it is that the setup isn't very intuitive. I know that they just upgraded the product to make it a little bit easier to use, but compared to some of the other platforms, it is not easy to configure it, set it up, and get it running. However, once you have set it up and got it running, it runs great.""They should add more features to URL monitoring."

More ManageEngine OpManager Cons →

"When it comes to third-party integration, one of the things we were looking at was putting some sensors onto our firewall, for instance. If there were a little bit more documentation and some step-by-step guides around that, that would be useful for us.""I wouldn't mind better categories for the sensors. When I go to add a new sensor for a new device, there are some categories in there already, and they can be filtered out, but there's quite a large pool of sensors... When I want to go in and find something quite specific, I have got to scroll down and scroll down to find what I'm actually looking for,""The Desktop app is good but it can be really sluggish at times, especially when you're editing different elements.""PRTG Network Monitor could improve the price.""If PRTG could help me see the bandwidth for each host I have on my network, either for a wireless or a wired network, that would be very helpful.""The technical support service should be improved.""There seems to be a big jump from the basic scan to the really thorough scan. There is a big jump in the quantity of sensors it uses for certain things. One minute you might get ten and then the next you get 200. There seems to be a big jump between the two at times.""Sometimes, our PRTG Network Monitor system crashes and a lot of sensors go down."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
