We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's helped us because we've changed fundamentally what we talk about. We don't talk about storage and different tiers of storage anymore nor do we talk about servers. We talk now about applications and how applications impact the business and end users.""The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability.""The initial setup was extremely simple and straightforward.""The most valuable features of Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its superior performance compared to other flash tiers, as well as its ease of use, with an intuitive user interface that is simple to deploy and use.""The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes.""The latency is good.""The high availability of the product is the most valuable feature.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe helps to improve our processing speed. It is user-friendly and easy to use."

"My storage engineers are very happy with PowerMax. They are very pleased with the performance, decreased latency, and dependability. From the team, the RESTful API makes management so much easier for them versus the command line interface.""We are most interested in cloud utilization.""It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""It has dramatically cut down the footprint in our data center and reduced the amount of raw disk capacity that we needed to purchase.""We removed the need to observe whether we ran into issues with the performance of disks or number of IOPS. Previously, our Oracle Database would throw us performance errors. Now, with PowerMax, everything runs smoothly.""Enterprise Cloud Storage is the most valuable feature, along with the data services which come with it, plus the deduplication and compression.""You can use PowerMax for all workloads and consolidation. We have used it to scale thousands of VMs.""Dell PowerMax NVMe's tech support is good."

"It serves as the primary storage in my production environment.""HPE Primera is scalable.""The most important thing that we had found when we purchased this product around six months back was its 100% availability and uptime.""When taking into account the price, maintenance required, and performance of HPE Primera, it is an effective solution.""Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""The most valuable feature is an all-flash system, which means the data access speed is amazing while the latency is almost nothing, and it can deliver IOPS up to 16,000.""One of the most valuable features is the ease of deployment.""It is stable and reliable."

Cons
"The UI for this solution needs to be improved.""They could add more support for file storage and different types of storage.""Many options to check performance, like read, writes, random writes, and random reads, are missing in Pure FlashArray X NVMe.""Efficiency improvements would always be welcome, but I'm not sure if they could get more efficient.""I would like to see replication and DR features in the next release of this solution.""The software layer has to improve.""If the customer only needs 500 terabytes and doesn't care how much data they'll put in the server, IBM is cheaper than Pure.""Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better."

More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Cons →

"There is also room for improvement in the PowerMax architecture and hardware itself. They should design the PowerMax on the basis of PCIe 4.0. I would like to see the possibility of an NVMe drive that operates on PCIe 4.0 and not PCIe 3.0.""The initial setup was a little bit complicated.""We've had a couple of little things come up, but for the most part, they've been pretty stable.""I would also like to see a real-time, graphical view of metrics. I don't know how far back in time we can look, but if we could see the performance from two months or three months back, and how it is performing now, that would be helpful.""There are some stability issues that we just recently experienced. We hope the next release will solve these problems.""If you go to Pure or you go to NetApp, they deliver in one month. If you go to Dell or HP, they will take up to six months for delivery. This is not a business model for today.""I think management is where PowerMax is weakest. We're still managing it like we managed EMC arrays in the early 2000s. There's a slicker, fancier GUI that does more things, but at the end of the day, you still have to dig into the command line and issue a lot of the same commands that we still were using almost 20 years ago.""They can make the GUI better, especially for the ones that come out of the box. We did encounter a bit of difficulty in setting up the storage. We had to deploy Solutions Enabler on a Linux machine to be able to fully interact with the storage. They need to upgrade the web interface for the management of the storage that comes out of the box. The management interface for NFS is also a bit old and not very intuitive."

More Dell PowerMax NVMe Cons →

"HPE Primera is not good enough as a storage solution as it does not provide a good NAS storage.""We face challenges with false alarms, particularly daily alerts related to replication link breaks. I'm not happy with the customer service and support.""Primera should be more user-friendly.""There are certain shortcomings in the technical support offered by HPE where improvements are required.""Some application solutions can be more acceptable on the HPE Primera site.""Price is always important in Turkey, so HPE could lower the price to keep it competitive. It's not as competitive as other solutions in this market.""They could work to make scalability easier.""The file server embedded in Pure, the GUI, and the tracking and reporting features are better with Pure Storage."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "Our costs for the product are three million."
  • "From reclaiming data center space which is so tightly constrained these days, it will pay for itself in a short amount of time, which is fantastic. Anything we can do to get more out of our current physical data center space helps us a ton, and PowerMax has helped enable that."
  • "Our costs are on a yearly basis."
  • "It scales enormously, but it's expensive to do so."
  • "From a general capital investment, it's one of the higher price points in the market. It depends on the size and software features that you would include in a system. So, the cost varies dramatically."
  • "The cost has room for improvement."
  • "The cost is expensive. While VMAX now has good pricing, PowerMax is a little expensive."
  • "We hope that with the combination of both NVMe and SCM the next PowerMax will be much cheaper that the one which we acquired."

  • "The price of this solution is good for medium-sized and large businesses."
  • "From what I see, this is competitively-priced and HPE are doing their best to stay competitive."
  • "The price to capacity ratio is good."
  • "It is basically in the mid-range of the price. It is not cheaper than Hitachi, but it is cheaper than Pure Storage. There are no additional costs. Everything was taken care of in the price."
  • "Licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis and the cost of GreenLake service is included."
  • "I believe HPE Primera and Pure Storage are similar in price."
  • "There is only a one-time license purchase needed and no additional costs. If HP could reduce the training cost, then that would be advantageous to the seller."
  • "The price of HPE Primera could improve, it is expensive."
