We performed a comparison between Microsoft Identity Manager and Symantec Identity Governance and Administration based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Identity Management (IM) solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The support for the validity of the resources is valuable. The tool allows resource assignments within a validity period so that the managers do not have to remember to revoke the access once the work is done."
"Surveying is a valuable feature because it allows us to import data and see who has access to what data, for example."
"It scales in terms of numbers and types of identities. It can govern the on-premise applications as well as the cloud applications. So, it can manage hybrid environments with all types of identities and various load amounts."
"Omada's best feature is creating accounts, automatically assigning permissions, and distributing resources based on assignment policies."
"Two valuable features of Omada Identity are the ability to discover accounts and link them to identities, and the automatic disabling of inactive accounts or identities."
"The most relevant feature is Omada's reporting engine. Omada never 'forgets' and archives every process. All steps an admin, user, or manager has executed, are recorded in Omada."
"The most valuable feature of Omada is its API connectivity, which allows seamless integration with various services like SAP, GRC, and Microsoft licenses."
"The Governance and self-service that can be set up so you can use them yourself to work in the system are the most valuable features. End users can be enabled to help themselves."
"Very powerful synchronization tool."
"The product’s most valuable feature is stability."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is the fact that I can use it to track who is sending which email, who is accessing which documents or which files, etc. These tools help me improve security within the enterprise environment."
"Its interface and the fact that it's integrated with everything in the Microsoft ecosystem are the most valuable features."
"The concept is primarily for the people in the business. In business, you can discuss how integrating all the services and resources within the company can bring numerous benefits."
"Microsoft integration products are strong. That is what I like about the product."
"The most valuable and most interesting feature is the conditional access."
"I appreciate how Microsoft keeps adding new features to Microsoft Identity Manager."
"I've used it to manage users, create and update, delete users, change passwords, and assign and change rules."
"Self-registration and self-service password management are valuable features. The role modeling feature is also very useful. It allows you to model your enterprise role."
"The product’s most valuable feature is flexibility. It can be customized as per the customer’s requirements."
"Using the implementation guide, I was able to implement the solution with ease."
"The scalability potential is there if a company needs to expand."
"Connector Xpress and Policy Xpress and the new interface."
"There are many valuable features within the solution. The product is easy to customize. It’s also highly secure."
"Word mining and risk campaigns are the most valuable features of this solution."
"Improved traceability would be helpful for administrators. For example, let's say a user's permission is being revoked. We can only see the system that has carried out a particular action but not what triggered it. If an event definition or something has changed in the criteria for the permission being removed or something like that, we don't have immediate access to that information. It takes a little detective work."
"I would like to search on date fields, which is not possible now."
"The user interface should have a more flexible design, where you can change it to your requirement."
"It is not possible to customize reports on Omada Identity."
"Omada's performance could be better because we had some latency issues. Still, it's difficult to say how much of that is due to Omada versus the resources used by our other vendors in our on-prem environment. Considering the resources we have invested into making it run well, it's slightly slower than we would expect."
"The account management integration isn't bad, but it isn't plug-and-play like Microsoft Azure. You need some deep development knowledge to set up the connectors."
"The comprehensiveness of Omada's out-of-the-box connectors for the applications we use could be better. We are getting a new HR system called Cornerstone for which they do not have an out-of-the-box connector, so we have to take the REST connector and play around with it."
"The user interface could be improved. The interface between Omada and the user is mainly text-based."
"The prices can always be improved, and the integration with the software from other vendors could use an improvement, especially if you are using something like Oracle for a database, SAP for ERP, or something like that."
"The security could be slightly improved."
"The information that is available for the Active Directory portal is segregated here and there."
"In terms of the identity and access management solution for on-premises environment, I think Microsoft needs to eliminate or minimize the number of workloads for the solution to run in on-premises environment."
"The product could be more friendly for non-native English speakers. It would also be better if it were more intuitive and visually attractive."
"Some valuable features might go unused because they are not well-documented or connected clearly in user guides."
"The product's pricing and integration features could be improved."
"The governance reporting of the solution can be improved, as it can be difficult to get good, intelligible reports. Microsoft could implement an API of some sort to allow report customization or some form of SQL model, to further customize modules and improve the reporting. That would be a major improvement to the product."
"Provisioning has a dependency on Windows."
"Integration capabilities with other solutions and formats, including JSON, could be improved."
"There are several areas for improvement in Symantec Identity Governance and Administration. They have no proper documentation on how to do backups. They also have a lengthy workflow process where we have to make some configurations to manage automation in the rules and in our tasks which takes time. We have to manually configure all the configuration files, and we cannot export users because there's no export system in Symantec Identity Governance and Administration. What we'd like to see in the next release of the solution is for them to make configuration and integration with other systems their top priorities. We have many API systems to manage, so hopefully, if they make these enhancements shortly, we can directly connect with our API systems when using Symantec Identity Governance and Administration."
"The directory has room for improvement. Also, the dashboards and, in particular, the KPI dashboard that shows the current user’s information needs reworking."
"The product's technical support could be better."
"It has a large footprint which you'd expect to be much, much smaller. Just to run basic services, we have 10 different servers. Also, if it were easier to manage, that'd be useful."
"Symantec is only on-premises, not on the cloud."
"They provide a framework to develop your own connectors. A connector is a piece of software that integrates with the solutions that are not a part of the support matrix. Currently, it is difficult to create these connectors in this solution. Other solutions, such as NetIQ Identity, provide a better way to create your own connector. Currently, there is no cloud version. It should have a cloud version."
