We performed a comparison between New Relic and SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor based on real PeerSpot user reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: New Relic offers more comprehensive application information, reliable monitoring, scalability, accurate alerts, and better dashboard design. It also has a simpler user interface and provides a complete platform for monitoring and analytical features. While SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor has valuable features, it lacks code-level application monitoring and software-defined network monitoring capability, and has room for improvement in various areas such as stability, flexibility, and pricing.
"You don't have to go through a list of 500 servers."
"We detect issues using dashboards that we built on New Relic."
"It has given us better insight into the performance of the system."
"The best feature of New Relic is its simple look and feel, making it easier to use than other tools."
"The product allows the developer to see the actual problems in the applications."
"It is a software solution as a service, so I don't have to manage it on-premise."
"One valuable feature is that the synthetic alert stays open until the issue is resolved. You can actually monitor whether your system is back up."
"It has helped us maintain a much higher uptime than we had previously."
"The product integrates with Remedy."
"I'd rate technical support at eight out of ten. They are helpful and fast."
"SolarWinds is a very stable platform compared to others on the market."
"Manage Groups: The capability to group appropriate devices gives better visibility of sites, categories, or critical regions. The same can be used to represent a dashboard for higher management."
"The solution is end-to-end from the network and the application to the processes. Everything about the enterprise infrastructure is being covered by the solution. It's easy to use and easy to navigate and one of the leaders among monitoring solutions."
"Features like monitoring and infrastructure dependency mapping are valuable to us."
"There are many valuable features, including the network configuration manager, and the network performance manager."
"The solution is great for monitoring. If something is going wrong, we can immediately find the root cause."
"There were some settings we had issues with."
"I think that there have been some questionable product enhancements. Over a year ago, New Relic rolled out a new navigation that really disrupted our workflow."
"We would like a dashboard feature to be created for this product. This would allow us to monitor both the front and back-end of our UIs performance, and then report on it."
"Data Dog captures the entire session and then provides it as a video player path, which gives more insight into what the user was doing. It's pretty impressive. New Relic does that, yet it only captures using a couple of screenshots, which is not very detailed since you are unable to see the entire user flow."
"The connectivity between legacy and newer cloud applications is not great."
"The customization of the start and end time is kind of cool."
"Documentation is one of the biggest things that I have a problem with since its documentation is not clear sometimes."
"The solution could improve by having more network monitoring features, such as for all the infrastructure."
"Mapping interactions between systems."
"The product needs to reduce its price."
"The templates could use improvement. Currently, they are quite complex. They should have drag-and-drop functionality instead. It would make it easier to use."
"They should incorporate more artificial intelligence. There should also be more predictive features."
"There is one feature that is a report writer. And they are currently trying to take it out from being a stand-alone application and integrating to the web. This doesn't give us the flexibility and it doesn't expand what we can get when it comes to reporting. So, putting it on the web is going to make it difficult to get some information. Leaving it where it is now will help us a lot."
"SAM AppInsight for SQL: The ability to ignore fragmentation of specific indexes."
"Support for the IBM Mainframe is needed."
"It would be helpful if the solution could integrate more with the security compliances, like this IDSS, etc."
