Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We can track changes to our data models and tie those changes back to specific tasks or efforts that we identify.""Data lineage tracking: It allows us to identify upstream and downstream systems using data.""It's easy to model and has a user-friendly interface. I like the team portal because, once we upload, the entire team can see the model.""We have a database design group of about 15 people. The Repository enables multiple people to work on the same model at the same time. We have fully integrated models, so we have one model for the enterprise data warehouse, one model for MDM, with a lot of sub-models in these things. People work on different parts of the model at different times. So the repository enables us to share the models, and keep track of what everybody is working on.""When validating the model, the ability to provide sub-models to developers, and generate a physical model from the logical, makes it easier to review a logical model with stakeholders.""The most important features are logical and physical models that we can compare and develop. Also, the Data Dictionary can be created out of your studio. Finally, database schemas help understand the logic that's behind the scene, behind the SQL tables. Especially when there are a lot of them, the schemas help everyone understand the business processes.""Developing new dimensional models; for the data we're hosting, dimensional modeling is more useful.""It does the job."

"It has helped having data lineage in the business cluster, which is used as control artifacts.""iServer has valuable features for workflow and document management.""This is a flexible tool compared to some other solutions.""The most valuable features of iServer are the integration with Microsoft Office and the interface is similar to Microsoft applications making them easy to use.""Integrating the Microsoft documents to the product and visualization matrix where we can see the end-to-end relationship of the network is of great importance to our company.""The solution is easily modified to suit your needs.""We like the governance.""The solution has wide use within Microsoft products. The integration with Microsoft products, and, in particular, Microsoft Office, is great."

Cons
"What I would like to see improved is the reliability of the releases, releases that are a little less buggy.""One limitation I have found in ER/Studio is that when you want to make some changes to the table definitions, you have to go item by item. You cannot do it globally. Another issue concerns defining the foreign keys between the different tables. It is a little more tedious in the ER/Studio than in ERrwin. With ERwin it is direct.""The visual presentation is a little too colorful and seems that it is dumbed down.""What needs the most improvement are semantic lineage and usability.""We did have a big issue when we upgraded to the 2016 version. The Team Server portion never did quite install correctly, and/or the database was corrupted, and we never figured it out.""The only thing I had an issue with was licensing, and the support was very good.""The number of options can be overwhelming at times. That is not necessarily a bad thing but for a newbie, it can be daunting.""They allow functionalities to be released before the full tests for catching and correcting errors are completed."

"I haven't used this solution long enough to know what areas could be improved.""There could be features for process mining, process simulation, and analytics.""More visualization techniques and ways to report the data might be helpful.""It definitely needs help to improve the visual aspect of the solution.""The performance is slow, which is something that should be improved.""Enhancing integration options with ERP or ITSM-related solutions for triggering automated requests for process definitions, changes, and tracking them in the iServer.""The modelling needs improvement, specifically forecasting capabilities and scenarios.""Cannot see which activities are control activities."
