We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"One of the best features is the support, which is excellent.""The solution is very straightforward to set up.""It has benefited my organization because it has reduced time to insights.""The high availability of the product is the most valuable feature.""The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes.""The Pure1 component is most valuable at this point in time when comparing it with EMC. Pure1 is where you can have your diagnostics in the cloud, so you can look at things from your mobile phone.""Overall stability is very good. It is a very stable solution.""Technical support has been helpful and responsive."

"What I like best about Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is that it's a fast storage solution. It also has reliable models. The sales support is also good for this product. Even the pricing for it is good.""It is very flexible, and it is very useful when you want to virtualize different storage from different vendors.""The valuable features for data management include deduplication and compression without performance impact, and the ability to virtualize old storage, making migration seamless.""In terms of performance and ability, the product can stand up against its competitors since the solution offers two controller systems to users.""The active-active option seemed to be working well and overall, it was a solid product.""Overall, the solution is strong, easy and fast.""Storage is the most valuable feature.""The most valuable features are external storage virtualization and the 100 percent data guaranteed availability."

"We've found the solution to be very stable so far.""Speed (IOPS/second) – It is most vital for applications that need low latency and high speed for transferring the data.""The performance of IBM FlashSystem is very good. The new technology and high throughput have given us more confidence in the solution. The management of the system has improved and we can control the monitoring system alerts and multiple FlashSystems with the Enterprise Cloud Edition, which is free. The migration of recently stored data to a new flash is much easier. You can move your data because you can utilize it externally.""They have a virtualization feature and, even if you do not want to buy that feature, you can have it as a trial for two to three months. If you have another brand of storage from another company, you can use this tool to transfer all your data from the old system to the new Storwize system, which really shortens the migration time.""The Flash core models offer amazing performance.""Stability-wise, this solution is fine.""IBM FlashSystem has an easy to use GUI, similar to the IBM Storewize family, which make it one of the best flash storage systems in the market.""The power systems are very reliable if you are running 24/7 operations. For ongoing mission-critical applications, it's the best solution."

Cons
"Many options to check performance, like read, writes, random writes, and random reads, are missing in Pure FlashArray X NVMe.""We need better data deduplication.""In terms of what needs improvement, the dashboard and management could be simplified.""The tool's pricing is higher than competitors.""There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features.""We would like to see VNC integration or be able to use Pure Storage with VNC.""There is room for improvement in the pricing of the product.""In the next release, I would like to see real-time analytics for further insight into consumption models."

More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Cons →

"Hitachi should offer a distinct overview of the various storage choices.""I would like the fan noise to be automatically adjusted based on the drive's current workload.""We moved away from this product because we were looking for an all-flash solution, and with our G1500 at the time, perhaps two years ago, they were just proposing more of the same technology.""The embedded management for installation feature has neither simplified nor complicated the management process, therefore, there is room for improvement.""The life-cycle of the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is too short. We only had approximately four or five years out of the solution before it was rendered its end of life.""The distributor needs more knowledgeable resources for technical support. It would be better to connect directly to the vendor in case of queries.""In terms of new features, I would be interested to see deduplication added in their next release.""In terms of what could be improved, it could use a better, faster web console and other consoles. It is so boring waiting, waiting and waiting for it to refresh."

More Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform Cons →

"The initial setup is complex.""The solution is not easy to use and could improve.""Sometimes the performance is effective but it gets resolved in the process.""They can improve its initial configuration. The initial configuration is currently very difficult. There are multiple choices or alternative ways to configure based on the use case and what you are targeting out of the device, that is, more capacity or more performance. These multiple alternatives cause a lot of confusion. They should increase the processing part of the nodes. Currently, you can cluster up to eight nodes. From my experience and the workload that I am facing in my environment currently, I would like to see either a bigger or stronger node or a larger number of nodes that can be clustered together. We formally communicated to them that we need to see either this or that, and they are working on something.""The pricing needs to be more competitive.""The price is very costly.""The array level RAID does not seem available.""We use some open-source tools for monitoring, such as Grafana and it should be bundled along with IBM FlashSystem."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "The pricing we get is very competitive when compared to other vendors. Hitachi is working on their licensing model and it is improving but can be irksome when many different items are not bundled or enterprise size."
  • "Our main issue with the Hitachi G-Series is what we consider to be an archaic software licensing scheme and high maintenance costs."
  • "It is a little expensive."
  • "I would like to see better pricing and more discounts."
  • "Pricing could be better, because the cost is very high."
  • "This solution is cheaper than Dell EMC VMAX. When you are looking for a high-end solution, price matters, but availability and stability are more important than the price."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "When you are looking for high-end solutions such as this, price is less important than stability and availability."

  • "Pricing can be considered as per market competition."
  • "The total storage capacity vs price is still quite high for the IBM Flash Array."
  • "It pays to go back and get the best price you can from your supplier. The first offer is not always at the best discount."
  • "Regarding licensing make sure you add at least three years software maintenance from IBM at the beginning, because you will not be able to download firmware updates or any fixes/patches without this."
  • "IBM V7000 has a new license and price structure which provides intuitive licensing based on the functions customers wish to enable and use the most."
  • "The pricing has been very competitive for the last few years. IBM got to the point where they changed the pricing model and we feel very comfortable with the pricing. It's very competitive. Over the last two years, IBM has been coming up with all kinds of interesting promos, especially for the SMB systems. That makes it very competitive price-wise and in terms of performance..."
  • "For a yearly license, it is about $100,000. There are no additional costs. The entire system is included."
  • "The integration is already included in the license cost of IBM FlashSystem. The integration is very easy. You get the IBM storage core with all software, firmware, and upgrades. EMC provides the features in the box, but they are not free for customers. There is a licensing cost for features. We have yearly licensing, but IBM has also provided a new option where you pay as you go. They provide a big box, and I pay, for example, for 10 terabytes. If I exceed 10 terabytes, IBM will charge for the new storage after 10 terabytes. It is a good opportunity in the market for using the storage as a cloud and paying as you go."
