We performed a comparison between IBM Spectrum Protect and VxRail based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Veeam Software, Zerto, Commvault and others in Backup and Recovery."Every time we go and try to get a file, we can get it. Restores are quick and the data is always there."
"It seems very scalable and robust. It can do what we require it to do."
"Incremental forever: This feature helps us reduce backup time and backup storage space."
"It is pretty scalable. It will scale to anything."
"One of the features which is most interesting in Spectrum Protect is the ability to scale out to great environments. This is something that not many vendors have on the market."
"The interface is easy to use."
"When I have to do disaster recoveries, I can do it with this tool."
"The most valuable feature is the backup speed."
"VxRail is easy to deploy and easy to scale up."
"When we have a resource contention, we can easily increase the capacity."
"The support has been excellent, especially if you compare it to IBM."
"Dell owns the EMC, EMC owns VMware, and there are many other interconnections throughout the industry which allows a fully integrated solution from a technical perspective."
"Compared with other products, the IT administrator or IT integrator doesn't take much time to get the tool up and running."
"I can roll out the system in thirty minutes and the customer can work with it."
"The scalability of VxRail is very good."
"VxRail has high performance and has great efficiency. There is a single place for us to manage all of our virtual machines. The ability to right-size instead of overcommit VMs is a large benefit."
"I am looking forward to new features in the next release. One of the main features is the cloud storage integration, which was one of my main required features. I've had more difficult experiences with other platforms than with this one."
"There have been some sizing issues now, and we are dealing with those."
"Replication of data could be more user friendly."
"If IBM could provide a partial module, that would be great."
"Probably educating the virtual group who are not as used to the product. Most of our expertise is with AIX servers and virtual server backups."
"I want to see better compression than what it currently does."
"I would like to see the operations center be a lot more functional. It was nowhere near as functional as the admin center, and I'm doing a lot of command line with it."
"It might be seen as leaning towards the legacy side, missing some features of newer solutions. The main drawbacks would be its complexity and high pricing."
"The implementation of a VxRail, it's straightforward, but the ongoing utilization, and integration, are where it can start to become difficult if you're not used to doing it."
"When using hybrid nodes, such as VxRail, there should not be compression and deduplication, only in All-Flash nodes."
"Next release, we would like to see online applications."
"One challenge customers face with VxRail is the high cost of scalability. The price is higher if they want to add memory or capacity after purchasing the tool for three or five years. Each drive and RAM module is licensed separately, making the architecture costly. It would benefit Dell to review this licensing model and make it more cost-effective and flexible for customers."
"I would like them to include an easier solution to host its own DNS. When they changed to version 6.5, they took out the easy features of letting the rail be its own DNS. You can still trick the system and make the VxRail Manager another one of the rail-required VMs become the DNS, but it's a lot of extra work. I'd like to see it put back into the UI."
"Sometimes during the upgrade process of VxRail, we experience errors that have nothing to do with reality and I cannot troubleshoot them without calling Dell and bringing in an engineer to figure it out."
"The agility of the support team to provide you with better solutions should be improved. VxRail also has to be improved in terms of simplicity. Adding a simple node seemed like quite a project."
"If we could have some out of the box ideas in integration, I think that would be a great feature."
