Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Developing new dimensional models; for the data we're hosting, dimensional modeling is more useful.""The reverse engineering is the most important feature.""The data modeling and reverse engineering features are most important to us.""Data lineage tracking: It allows us to identify upstream and downstream systems using data.""The interface is really simple to use and it allows me to pick and choose which tables I want to reverse engineer.""The tool is simple to use.""The most valuable features are... those that enable me to represent the database to the development community and the business users.""Valuable features include the ability to visually represent what the database tables are going to look like and their relationships. Also, the ability to document the definitions of the tables and the columns that are in a table so that we can communicate what the data is and how it should be used."

"Ease of use is the most valuable feature. From an enterprise architecture perspective, it's not too cumbersome with too many functionalities, yet it has a lot of attributes for the content it covers.""The solution has a very useful assessment tool that automatically populates from input data to produce a detailed analysis of customer's environments.""LeanIX has a great application information architecture.""The solution provides a single window view of business, application, data, and technology views of the IT ecosystem.""The most valuable features are that it's user-friendly and the user experience. It's easy to map the fact sheets.""The most valuable features are the clean user interface and the fact sheet feature in Application Portfolio Management. The tool integrates well with ServiceNow, which is the usual CMDB platform.""I like LeanIX's ease of use in general.""It offers neat visualization and referencing functionality while enabling the creation of landscape maps and showing the relationship between different applications."

Cons
"I would like to see better documentation/help for the Data Architect tool. Creation of tutorials would be nice, as there are some features which are not as clearly defined as they should be.""The only thing I had an issue with was licensing, and the support was very good.""Whenever there is a new version, there are a lot of release notes on the technical side of it, but I would like to be told why are we doing the upgrade... What I would like to really see is how this benefits us from the business point of view. What are the real benefits that the user gets? I want some kind of way white paper. The release notes describe the technical enhancements but, from the layman's point of view, if someone asks me what are the business benefits of this upgrade, I don't have any documentation to explain it to the business.""when there are some links to the external databases, if this database is not structured it is not uploaded. It gives me errors and I cannot see the view that was created on this structure and I cannot change those views, even manually. It skips the views. I have to ignore those views. I cannot re-upload them because it gives me an error.""I would like to upload, a database with about 3,000 tables. It takes so much time and, finally, it freezes the whole solution so that I actually cannot work with that environment. For the data warehouse, it's fine because I have 20 or 30 tables. It works fine. But, when I reverse-engineer the database with 3,000 tables, it freezes and it's hard to upload and reverse-engineer such environments in ER/Studio.""The visual presentation is a little too colorful and seems that it is dumbed down.""The model diagram because very clumsy when you save it on the team server and the models are very big.""We would always like to see Repository performance improve, checking in and checking out."

More IDERA ER/Studio Cons →

"It's hard to predict the pricing of the system.""Does a poor job of being able to allocate detailed costings to components within the network.""The solution uses Gartner's time-based framework for application rationalization. One more thing that you can consider is having some add-on frameworks for the same, not just Gartner.""They're probably positioned pretty well. I hope that they would not focus that much on the business architecture, and they would focus more on the overall cloud strategy and how we can leverage multi-cloud and transition back and forth from other cloud providers. With a lot of current vendors, you get locked in with one cloud, and then you try to migrate to someone else, and it becomes very problematic. What they need to do is to look at the overall data strategy, and they probably need to amplify their data strategy, especially around multi-cloud.""They should improve the out of the box connectors that they provide. They should see if clients are really ready to adapt them.""What would make LeanIX better is more variety in terms of reporting, and more flexibility with its data importing feature.""Report generation could be more detailed. There are some shortcomings when creating reports. We can't create tag-based reports or go beyond basic technical reports.""They could include a combination of LeanIX and some modeling extensions."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The product is pricey."
  • "The process of licensing could be much simpler, from our experience."
  • "I'm a firm believer that all software is overpriced these days but, comparatively speaking, I think ER/Studio is worth the money."
  • "I feel the product's pricing is a good value."
  • "Pricing is on point, but do your due diligence - not every developer needs the tool."
  • "As an individual user, the renewal is a little costly."
  • "Pricing is expensive and on the higher-end."
  • "At my previous company using ER/Studio, a database compare took four hours before using the product and 15 minutes after using the product."

  • "As the tool is cloud-based, its cost is more affordable."
  • "The solution's pricing is based on a licensing model that is competitive and in line with other products."
  • "There is a sweet spot of where they need to be on pricing right now. They could go up a little bit in pricing, but it has to do with the cost savings, and it has to do with the practitioners using it. I use it where I get cost savings and I can justify it, but they probably have the ability to flex a 10% up channel on their sales on that. So, they could increase their settle price, not their offering price, when they sell. They can probably hold that up a little bit higher than it is because there are cost savings that we can drive from it."
  • "The tool needs to include more flexible licensing options. We do not use the tool all the time. So pricing should be considered only when we use the tool."
  • "I would rate the pricing a one out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
  • "The pricing is very good. We definitely get good value for the money."
  • "LeanIX uses application-based account licensing, where the cost is multiplied by the number of applications in the software implementation."
