We performed a comparison between Juniper SRX Series Firewall and Sophos UTM based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The user interface is relatively easy. The devices are easy to deploy and figure out when you have experience with other security appliances."
"The technical support is great."
"Good anti-malware and web filtering features."
"SSL-VPN is very useful for us and has been very reliable."
"FortiGate is flexible and easy to use."
"It can expand easily."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a scalable solution."
"The IPS is good. It protect my network from attackers."
"Most of our clients use it as a traditional firewall, blocking Layer 3 and Layer 4, blocking by transport."
"I like the Junos OS, which has been very good for me. It's very clever."
"We mostly use the Layer 4 firewall functions: Access rules, NAT, and site-to-site IPsec VPN."
"Juniper is one of the most powerful network security solutions while remaining simple to use, set up, and scale."
"From a protection perspective, it provides a network perimeter security function for our company."
"Commit: You can update the whole configuration without affecting the production. The new configuration will be loaded once the command "Commit" is submitted. You can also do a Commit confirmed to automatically roll back to the previous config after X minutes."
"vSRX is easy to deploy to any virtual infrastructure, such as OpenStack, VMware, and even Docker (cSRX)."
"We use it as a firewall at our head office and branches."
"UTM 9 brings along IPSec as well as iPhone and iPad support. This seems small but it’s useful."
"With Sophos, we have not had any incidents this year. The security provided has been good. It has proven to be okay for our needs."
"The most valuable feature is the price. I've been requesting prices all over these years between different solutions like Fortinet, Palo Alto, and Check Point and Sophos has been the cheapest and the best of all of them that I have tried. I have been working with Fortinet, it's a fact that the price is surprisingly better."
"Sophos has a single pane of glass which allows me to manage all my VPCs from a single instance, managing all my firewall from one place."
"The solution is easy to handle and configure."
"It is a very good product. The threat monitoring process is the most valuable feature."
"The three most important features for us are web protection, web server protection, and network protection."
"The initial configuration is straightforward thanks to the web GUI. In 30 minutes, you can have a running firewall with UTM protection enabled."
"Fortinet Fortigate could benefit by simplifying some of their processes."
"Scalability for Fortinet FortiGate needs to be improved. SD-WAN security for this solution also needs some improvement."
"My only complaint about FortiGate is a lack of QinQ VLAN tunneling. I haven't found this feature in any Fortinet product. You can do this on all Cisco routers, including the smaller models. However, QinQ isn't available on the biggest, most expensive Fortinet units. They still don't have that. I think now we're on software version 6.0, and they still haven't found a solution for QinQ. It isn't a dealbreaker, but that's my main complaint."
"There can be more security in hybrid implementations. When a customer has a hybrid environment where some parts are in the cloud, we need a consistent security solution for such scenarios."
"The renewal price and the availability could be improved."
"We were not able to build a full-mesh VPN; however, I am not sure if this was the fault of Fortinet FortiGate."
"The ease of use could be improved."
"One of the features that I would like to have is to do with endpoint production, it should be integrated. For example, the firewall gets notified of any kind of forensic event that needs to be done, such as if there is a ransomware attack and how it originated, all those records have to be available from the firewall, which is not."
"J-Web, Juniper Web, is sometimes not working great when users are increasing their internet use. Additionally, they need to improve the GUI, graphical user interface, and the firewall management needs to improve. Their CLI is good, but sometimes the GUI is very slow."
"It would be ideal if the solution could use cloud services to help update signatures or threat prevention systems."
"Junos Space should be improved to be on par with FortiGate's solution for managing firewalls and routing."
"It's a good stable firewall, but it's nowhere near what it needs to be for a next-generation type firewall."
"The interface could be more user-friendly."
"The solution's configurations and syntax are specific and more complicated than other platforms."
"Juniper SRX Series Firewall has to improve its web content site, like web filtration."
"We tried configuring the IDS for more than four months, but it did not work properly."
"The technical support only communicates via email. I would prefer to communicate directly with someone."
"Stay away from the wireless models, since you cannot put them in HA. They start to give you some weird issues once you start getting into multiple SSIDs and networks."
"I would like to see Sophos UTM add support for all the new threat-detection technologies and the ability to respond to novel security threats that come along every day."
"I would like them to move from the Classic Load Balancer to the Network Load Balancer. This would make it easier to do certain things with Amazon. They are able to do some enhancements with Network Load Balancer that they are unable to do with Classic Load Balancer."
"Support for IKEv2 is needed in this solution."
"Sophos should improve its ability to check something like bandwidth consumption for users or something more real-time."
"The classification segregation of applications lacks sufficient definition."
"An area for improvement in Sophos UTM is load balancing because my company cannot use it currently. If Sophos could release a new configuration for the load balancing feature to work for my company, that would be great."
