We performed a comparison between Microsoft DPM and NAKIVO Backup & Replication based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Backup and Recovery solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."It is almost perfect for Microsoft products. It is not a very powerful tool, but it is okay for small sites and small businesses with Microsoft products. It is easy to use for backup and restore. It is good for backing up Microsoft servers such as Exchange and SharePoint servers."
"The most valuable feature is that DPM has an index so individual files can be searched."
"The most valuable feature is the recovery."
"It has an application backup, a file backup, a system backup and a hypervisor."
"The automated procedure is quite good for us, as it is able to capture all of the information that we require."
"The most important feature is that it's easy to use."
"I like the core backup feature. I also like the file server backup feature. I find Microsoft DPM interesting because it has fantastic integration with Microsoft products. For example, in Exchange and SharePoint, DPM is excellent when it comes to backing up data. It also does a decent job with open-source products."
"Microsoft DPM is scalable."
"All in all, NAKIVO helped us save a lot of time."
"The VM Backup Verification is one of the features I appreciate the most."
"We spend less time to get data recovered."
"The main advantage from our perspective is the ability to plug this solution into an existing infrastructure on a cheap device and point the backup at the server targets and configure the backup options in a simple menu; linking to a cheap cloud resource for a simple solution for off-site storage."
"The updates are problem-free, so we can keep Nakivo up to date on the server and NAS too."
"It was also very easy to configure backups to be sent offsite to a separate repository for disaster recovery needs."
"Every new version has got some tweaks and improvements in stability and speed."
"The interface is basic and very easy to use which is what we are looking for."
"Management reporting could be improved."
"Compatibility and integration with other products needs improvement."
"To evaluate the solution's abilities and its performance under demanding conditions, it is recommended to carry out a stress test."
"We can't take a snapshot and take it outside, which is a problem."
"Microsoft DPM could improve if it was available in a public or private cloud."
"It needs portability for other vendors. It is good for backing up Microsoft servers, but it doesn't support third-party solutions such as Oracle Database. It depends on Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy, especially for Hyper-V, which has a lot of problems. They should enhance the Volume Shadow Copy functionality. Its reporting should also be better. Reporting is too weak in DPM."
"You have only a few settings and if you change them for some special configurations, it's very difficult."
"It would be better if it integrated seamlessly with open source and competitor products. In the next release, I would like to see some data governance frameworks. It should have support features for data integration and data replication like Veeam. Right now, we are also using Veeam for certain scenarios."
"I had to manually install SNMP, which wasn't hard, but a step I had to take, to plug this into the monitoring system."
"It could be a little bit faster in terms of backup and offer more reliable SQL server backups."
"I would like to see some additional models in the next release to make backups more functional."
"My first thought was maybe the GUI could be improved, although it works."
"We want the backup job to consume fewer resources, as the utilization is very high if we choose the best compression."
"The upgrade process is a bit dated and could use some changes."
"Integrations maybe helpful for NAKIVO. I think end-to-end backup and user backup will be useful to have. The price could be reduced as well. I also think that AD integration should be more available."
"From an administrator usage perspective, the interface is very intuitive, but maybe the wizard for creating and modifying backup jobs could look a little fancier."
