We compared Veeam Backup for Office 365 and Zerto across several parameters based on our users' reviews. After reading the collected data, you can find our conclusion below:
Comparison Results: Veeam Backup for Office 365 is highly regarded for its stability, ease of use, and flexibility in backing up and recovering data. It seamlessly integrates with Office 365 and offers various storage options, all presented in a user-friendly interface. However, it does not have integration with SharePoint and its performance can be inconsistent. Zerto is praised for its continuous data protection and quick recovery capabilities. It has an intuitive interface and efficiently creates virtual machines. However, it requires a more complex initial setup and could improve in areas such as licensing granularity and long-term retention features.
"Technical support in Veeam is good."
"This is an easy-to-install easy-to-use solution for backing up Office 365 email."
"Its ability to restore at the item level is very valuable. It is very strong at that. In the past, we had to restore a lot of data only for a couple of items. We can now restore an item as well as an email, which is good for productivity."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup for Office 365 is the backups, we do not want to lose any files. Each one of the files is updated on a regular long-term basis and kept together in the Microsoft cloud-only."
"The most valuable feature is the integration with our Teams environment."
"It is easy to use and easy to recover files."
"It is very easy to integrate. You can do it very fast."
"Its absolute functionality and intuitiveness are the most valuable features."
"The ease of use is one of the most valuable features when it comes to making changes and configuring. It's very easy to set up and configure. It's a great product."
"I like that the failover is simple and that it's a stable platform. It makes it easy for us to do failovers in the event that we have an issue. It also makes it easier to do test failovers because we can test it prior to actually doing a real failover. This means that we can pull things back or commit them over on the other side. Zerto streamlines the process instead of having to have a whole team of people who are dedicated to disaster recovery."
"Zerto is an excellent solution for cloud-based environments, but for DIY clients who have another site to recover their systems it also works well."
"It works really well. It's simple to set up and works well. Moreover, disaster recovery to the cloud to our organization is very important. We actually had to use it three years ago, and it worked out well for us."
"Live replication and up to the second type of failover are valuable. The fact that we can do test failovers and failbacks is important for our ISO certification."
"We can failover to an isolated environment and validate the application without impacting the production environment. We can do more testing in a non-impactful way..."
"The disaster recovery features are the best I've found."
"It's also very much faster than any other migration or disaster recovery platform we have. I work with virtualization, mostly on VMware, and I must admit that Zerto is even better than VMware Site Recovery Manager. Zerto compresses the data and it works much faster."
"If clients are backing up onto tape, Veeam's newest versions don't really deal with that."
"In the next release, it should have direct export to tape drive abilities and NDMP support."
"Technical support could be improved."
"We have found that there is a limitation in this solution where it only takes the backup of users who are using Office 365 Enterprise email IDs. We have many users in management and approximately 50 other users who are using Office 365 of which Veeam is able to capture the backup. However, for the other users who are on the local email server at that time, the solution is not able to capture the backup."
"The solution announced many features two years ago, and they still have not happened, so I would hope that the next release has these ready to go."
"The solution should have backup integration features, not just concerning mail but also when it comes to such solutions as SharePoint."
"The capacity storage is a challenge everywhere in the backup industry. The general feedback people are coming back to about this is that there is no deduplication based on it."
"We use a yearly subscription. However, I believe the price could be lower."
"Zerto added the backup feature, but it's not quite up to speed yet when you compare it with the backup capabilities of other solutions out there."
"With the VPG (virtual protected group) it would be nice if you could pick individuals in the grouping instead of having to failover the whole group."
"The email alerts can be excessive, so better control over frequency or resolution may be a worthwhile improvement."
"This solution could be improved by being more cloud agnostic."
"There is a need to allow the source vCenter Inventory to be imported with a single click."
"I would like to see them continuously improve Zerto's automated functions, such as putting hosts in maintenance mode within vSphere and not having to worry as much about how Zerto is going to react... Sometimes, Zerto almost holds the vSphere environment hostage when it comes to taking certain actions. You really need to be cognizant about what you're about to do. They should further automate that and increase Zerto's ability to handle things like that in a very slick, automated way, without intervention."
"There should be more comprehensive cyber recovery capabilities."
"The overall management plan could improve. If something happens with the VM on the vSphere side, the error codes are pretty weak. If there was a way to click on something within the UI that takes us to a support page or article, that would be very beneficial."
