Scalable with good self-service analytics but needs better integration capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "From an analytics perspective, it's really good for self-service analytics."
  • "You can't tell a data story as well in QuickSight as you can on others, especially in TIBCO Spotfire."

What is our primary use case?

We have used it as rapid prototyping for exploring visualizations and analytics with the data. It seems to work quite nicely.

What is most valuable?

Our clients are looking for advice. To the extent that they were on AWS, we pointed them to this rather than using Power BI, which frankly we had an awful experience with. We were comfortable with the AWS stack, everything on AWS, and we pointed them to that for some of their analytics and with us holding their hand. Rather than investing in another product, we found a good cost model there. If you're running on AWS and paying for those services, the whole QuickSight thing was a nominal add-on cost for its services. It's actually pretty efficient.

From an analytics perspective, it's really good for self-service analytics.

What needs improvement?

It's not a Tableau. It's not a TIBCO Spotfire. They could do further integration with some data governance and data cataloging. You can't tell a data story as well in QuickSight as you can on others, especially in TIBCO Spotfire. If they integrated it more with some data cataloging and had some guided analytics where it will walk you through everything, that would be ideal. Most clients don't expect it to do that. That said, once again, it isn't a Tableau. The results are as good as Tableau, and yet, it doesn't, from an engineering perspective, tell the data story or allow a user to be able to access a data catalog that lets you drive how your analytics need to go. I don't if they're working on that, however, that would be a lovely enhancement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution within two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability has been quite good. I don't believe we've had any major issues with the stability. I can't recall dealing with bugs or glitches and it doesn't seem to crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I haven't really tested the scalability. There's no reason to think it wouldn't, given AWS's general capability.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm aware of other solutions. however, rather than licensing Tableau or Power BI, or TIBCO, we found that we needed an introductory analyst tool for our clients that we could help them use. The more sophisticated users are using things like TIBCO on AWS, or Tableau, or Looker. However, with QuickSight, we find it to be really good as an introductory tool for our clients that want to do simple analytics.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost of the solution has a minimal cost if users are already on the AWS stack.

There are additional service fees based on the services it consumes. However, the cost is pretty mild.

It's not like it's a few pennies a day. However, it's a per service or CPU and disc storage, and it's mostly CPU. It's a minimal surcharge as you're consuming more services on AWS.

What other advice do I have?

I'm very excited about their product. We were using others, other things for visualization analytics, however, within the AWS stack, it's actually proving to be pretty capable.

It was a whole AWS stack that we're shaping out. Given our partnership with Amazon, they've been pushing a lot of different services and products at us. But the QuickSight was something that was remarkably quick to stand out and recreate some use cases within, for example, Power BI. So we have found that to allow for a really rapid, quickly produced prototype.

I would recommend QuickSight as, if you were a citizen developer, it's very approachable. Learning something like TIBCO or Power BI is a bigger learning curve. What I do like about QuickSight, is that it gives a relative beginner the ability to really start seeing results quickly. I don't think it's a competitor yet for some of the more sophisticated tools. However, if a developer or developer's client was relatively unsophisticated, it's a very smooth and quick place to start.

I would rate the solution at a seven out of ten simply due to the fact that, in its class, it does well, however, in comparison to some other tools, it's not as robust.

Easy to set up and manage with good documentation
Pros and Cons
  • "Easily able to connect with our other services and easy to manage."
  • "Lacked connectivity with other third-party tools and data sources."

What is our primary use case?

We chose QuickSight because we had a need to build some dashboards several months ago. We were looking for a monitoring dashboard that would provide an overview of what was going on across the organization. Our aim was to utilize Power BI. I'm a solutions architect and we are customers of Amazon.

What is most valuable?

QuickSight is a solution that's easy to manage.

What needs improvement?

The product lacked connectivity with other third party tools and data sources like Azure or any other cloud. Having that would have enabled us to use the service more widely with people relying more on AWS these days. It would also provide connectivity with other clouds so that the people who want to manage or monitor from the AWS brand can do that.

For how long have I used the solution?

We used this solution for about five months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

We haven't needed to contact customer support because the company provides good documentation.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was relatively easy.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution eight out of 10.

Powerful, easy to use, with excellent pricing plan
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature I have found is the low-level securities are very easy to use."
  • "I would like to see a feature that allows us to save a draft version before making it public and publishing it."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case bank in the financial sector, we review the information and make some validation with the legacy system and a book of indicators of KPIs with directors and CEOs.

How has it helped my organization?

The data is very powerful and the splice is fast.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature I have found is the low-level securities are very easy to use. The power of calculation with variables or building formulas and you can use datasets that are incremental updates. It is powerful and fast. You do not need to update all the data, you can use a partial update. It is something you use a lot in the industry.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see a feature that allows us to save a draft version before making it public and publishing it. This draft option would allow for comments to be made and those comments to be reviewed. Changes could be made and then published to the public.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Amazon QuickSight for the past two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is excellent. Only one time in two years was the service not working and that was for an hour.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There is very good scalability and large capacity.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is very good. You have support and a forum where you can search for help and new ways to use it.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward and easy.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was done in-house. The deployment usually takes one week to ten days.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is cost-effective with a good plan.

What other advice do I have?

You can use it with confidence and you can trust in a product that is evolving very fast. It is better than Tableau, which is another leader in the market. Amazon QuickSight is easy to use and cost-effective. On a scale of one to ten, I would give Amazon QuickSight an eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Good for basic reporting and inexpensive but needs more visualizations
Pros and Cons
  • "It is fine for basic reporting."
  • "It's not ideal for reports that are more complex."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for reports for our finance team. We take in a lot of data and we use the quick site reports to process and present everything back to our finance team.

What is most valuable?

We're satisfied with the product. It handles the data well.

It is fine for basic reporting.

This solution is very inexpensive, which makes it an attractive option.

What needs improvement?

It's not ideal for reports that are more complex. We're actually looking into other options that allow us to get into more complex queries and offer more dashboards. We'd like to be able to present things using graphs and tables. If people just want the hard data, that can just be exported to Excel. However, we have teams that want visualizations in order to look for trends and display peaks of inactivity or behaviors like that.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for around a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Overall, the product is stable. There are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze. It is reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We haven't tested scalability too much. We only have five people using the product.

How are customer service and support?

I'm not aware of us ever using technical support. I cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they are.

How was the initial setup?

I'm not sure about the setup or deployment process. That was handled before I arrived at the company. However, as part of the Amazon product suite, it appears to be easy to implement and easy to use. However, that's only anecdotal from my end.

What about the implementation team?

While the company likely implemented the solution internally without the help of AWS or consultants, it happened before my time and I'm not sure who set it up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is very reasonable. They are very cheap.

Right now, we are paying $200 a month to use it. I'm not aware of any other additional costs beyond that one fee.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We are currently looking into different options right now so that we get more than very basic reporting. Right now, we are looking into Power BI. From our research, it seems to come out on top a lot.

What other advice do I have?

I'm an end-user.

I use the product in my company. I'm not sure which version of the solution I'm using. That said, everything is cloud-based and therefore it is likely it is the latest version.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A highly scalable tool that needs to provide more features similar to its competitors
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution's most valuable feature is its flexibility to visualize certain logs."
  • "The number of features in the product is limited in comparison with the other tools in the market, like Power BI."

What is our primary use case?

I use Amazon QuickSight in my company to perform some basic analysis of certain data.

What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable feature is its flexibility to visualize certain logs.

What needs improvement?

Making joints between different tables in the solution can be a little cumbersome process. I am still in the process of exploring the tool's features, so it's a little bit early to comment on what needs improvement. The number of features in the product is limited in comparison with the other tools in the market, like Power BI. I hope that Amazon QuickSight offers more features like Power BI.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Amazon QuickSight for a year. My company is a user of the product. I use the product's latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

Around ten people, consisting of data engineers, in my company, use Amazon QuickSight.

My company uses the product on a weekly basis.

I believe my company plans to increase the usage of the product.

How was the initial setup?

I rate the product's initial setup phase a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup phase, and ten is an easy setup phase.

The product's installation phase was straightforward.

The solution is deployed on a public cloud by AWS.

The solution can be deployed in a day.

Amazon QuickSight is a cloud solution, so you don't need to do a lot to deploy it because you need to activate it, after which it gets ready to function.

What about the implementation team?

The product's installation phase was carried out with the help of an in-house team of our company.

What was our ROI?

I have not yet seen a return on investment from the use of the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the price of Amazon QuickSight a four on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price.

What other advice do I have?

A minimal amount of maintenance is required for Amazon QuickSight.

I rate the overall product a six and a half to seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

A low cost solution that's worth your money but implementation needs to be simplified
Pros and Cons
  • "It has a lot of valuable features, but the most important aspect is the affordable cost. This solution costs much less in comparison to the competitors like Qlik Sense, Power BI, and Tableau."
  • "It can be made more user-friendly as some users might find this solution hard to implement. Qlik Sense, for example, is very user-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

We use QuickSight for the BI and for reporting purposes. We want to integrate two different applications. For example, we would want to merge NetSuite and an accounting solution and get the data from a fancy dashboard. Users can get any information they want at any point. We don’t need to query it every time we need something.

What is most valuable?

It has a lot of valuable features, but the most important aspect is the affordable cost. This solution costs much less in comparison to the competitors like Qlik Sense, Power BI, and Tableau.

Otherwise, the rest of the features are similar to the competitors.

What needs improvement?

It can be made more user-friendly as some users might find this solution hard to implement. Qlik Sense, for example, is very user-friendly.

The design and visual appearance of the dashboard can be upgraded for improved user efficiency.

For how long have I used the solution?

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable. Around 10-14% of people in my organization are using Amazon QuickSight. This is because most of the market has already been dominated by Tableau. Qlik Sense has also captured a large part of the market.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It should be scalable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Qlik Sense, but presently we are migrating to Amazon QuickSight.

How was the initial setup?

It's not complex, but it's a bit tricky compared to the other tools. The setup of reporting on Amazon QuickSight is more difficult than other tools like Qlik Sense, Power BI and Tableau.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are different cost structures for using Amazon QuickSight. A fixed membership can be obtained and a timeframe basis membership is available for users too. I believe the pricing is quite low and the solution is worth the money.

What other advice do I have?

If a client is already using a competitor solution like Qlik Sense, then on most occasions, they wouldn't want to migrate to Amazon QuickSight. I personally believe that this solution is going to blow up the market very soon. I would rate it an eight out of ten.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

A go-to solution for customers looking for generative AI capabilities, but its visualization could be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "Amazon QuickSight has introduced a new functionality called Q bar, which allows the user to do natural language queries and get additional insights using some built-in generative capabilities."
  • "Amazon QuickSight's visualization could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

Amazon QuickSight is primarily used to provide reporting on top of some data lakes built on top of AWS. We are primarily an advanced partner with SAP, providing analytics on top of SAP data using AWS services. Since some of our customers don't want to associate with other vendors, we are looking into Amazon QuickSight as one of the BI solutions.

What is most valuable?

When I work with data in AWS, it is easy to integrate. Amazon QuickSight has introduced a new functionality called Q bar, which allows the user to do natural language queries and get additional insights using some built-in generative capabilities.

What needs improvement?

Amazon QuickSight's visualization could be improved. Features like data processing capabilities, available in Tableau, are limited in Amazon QuickSight.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Amazon QuickSight for two months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Amazon QuickSight is a stable solution.

I rate Amazon QuickSight an eight out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Amazon QuickSight is a scalable solution. Our customers for Amazon QuickSight are from small to enterprise businesses.

I rate Amazon QuickSight an eight out of ten for scalability.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's pricing is cheaper than the other products in the market. Amazon QuickSight has a monthly subscription. There are no extra costs for report consumption, but an additional cost is incurred only when the users have additional storage.

What other advice do I have?

We are currently proposing Amazon QuickSight to some of our customers primarily because of the Generative BI capabilities built into it. Amazon QuickSight does not need a lot of maintenance because it's a service managed completely by AWS.

Amazon QuickSight has evolved a lot in recent years, especially because of generative AI capabilities. It is evolving and is a go-to solution for customers looking for generative AI capabilities and building the solution on AWS.

Overall, I rate Amazon QuickSight a seven out of ten.

Stable, great Amazon integration, but has minimal features
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Amazon QuickSight is its connectivity with other Amazon services."
  • "Amazon QuickSight has minimal features. The feature set can be improved to allow you to create good production-ready dashboards. This does not happen with QuickSite, it needs to mature to be used in production."

What is our primary use case?

We use Amazon QuickSight as a BI tool for data analysis. When we are working with Amazon data on Amazon Cloud, we use Amazon QuickSight. If I have to build a solution on Amazon data for an IT team or for a quick POC for some customers, I use QuickSite. Additionally, for basic analysis, we use QuickSite.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Amazon QuickSight is its connectivity with other Amazon services.

Our company is heavily bought into Amazon, our entire infrastructure is set up on Amazon for my organization. This is why QuickSite is good for us because everything else is running on Amazon.

What needs improvement?

Amazon QuickSight has minimal features. The feature set can be improved to allow you to create good production-ready dashboards. This does not happen with QuickSite, it needs to mature to be used in production.

With Amazon QuickSight or any other BI tool, they are limited in what you can do because they're drag and drop tools. For unique features we need or what we want to build, we cannot build using these tools. We use JavaScript for that. We write our own code and build our own solutions.

I need the capability to call machine learning models in Python. For example, while I'm building a dashboard if I am displaying a chart, but the value calculation should be a machine learning model, which is running somewhere else, such as on Amazon. I need that capability because these tools give good outputs, such as calculated fields. However, today the outputs are not straightforward. It's not only some additional or multiplication, but you also need a machine learning output to come, and then you want to show it. These tools cannot do that on the fly. In simple, you can say machine learning on the fly is not currently provided.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Amazon QuickSight for approximately five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Amazon QuickSight is fine.  It doesn't crash or cause any issues at all.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable according to their marketing. However, there are some issues.

When the data size increases, as we go from a few thousand rows to a million rows to a hundred billion rose to queries. This solution fails. With a few Mb's it works fine but with a few GB's, the solution is likely to be slow. When we tried to use terabytes or hundreds of terabytes of data, the solution does not work.

We have ten users using Amazon QuickSight in my organization. We do not have plans to increase our usage.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Tableau. If the user is a C-level employee, such as a CXO, CEO, or VP, they prefer to work with Tableau. It's easier for them than Amazon QuickSight. Additionally, we have used Microsoft BI.

How was the initial setup?

Amazon QuickSight is a SaaS that does not require any installation or deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Amazon QuickSight you subscribe and you use the service.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others is that there are many good solutions but it depends on your use case. If you are building something for C-level employees, use Tableau or another solution. If you want to do data analysis on Amazon, use QuickSite. And if you want to build production-ready software use Javascript.

These BI solutions are built with some thought in mind, they're good at what they do, but they don't solve all the problems. The features I need, they cannot provide me because they're not built like that.

I rate Amazon QuickSight a six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud
