Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Traffic Analyzer provided the centralized view for our IT SOC operations to focus mainly on high-risk firewall rules exposing with explicit any rules.""With the help of advanced NSPM tools, network administrators and security managers can gain a deeper understanding of their network devices and business applications.""It improves audibility and security by having instant access to firewall configurations.""The most valuable is helping us determine where our rules are too permissive. Based on previous human review of our rules, they are very cursory. We know why we do something, but we don't get into the details of whether the rule is nice and tight. What Firewall Analyzer lets us do is understand the risks presented by our rules. The tool does a calculation of all the traffic that could be allowed and we can match that to whether it should be allowed.""AlgoBot is a brilliantly, simple idea that lets us give our IT internal customers a way to check if rules are already in place before asking for more.""I think finding the firewall's rules with the highest risk is valuable.""The initial setup process is excellent.""It permits us to save a lot of time and make some firewall policy clean up. Then, when we add firewall change requests to management through this tool, it decreases the time for design and implementation significantly."

"It is easy to implement it.""I have found the system to be very intuitive, functional, and they have great technology.""The most valuable features are ease of use and user interface.""The solution is very stable and reliable.""NSX can reduce costs and has good service. It is easy for you and your users to use.""The most valuable features are stability and low cost.""The most valuable features are the micro-segmentation and integrated security options.""We secured our organisation with Micro-segmentation."

Cons
"I would like to see more object-based reports on groups and object usage.""The risk matrix implementation is not easy from an Excel file, so it would be nice to have a solution for creating it directly within the web interface.""It would be nice if it was more variable when checking virtual domain baseline in the same way as Fortigate's firewalls do.""While AlgoSec provides comprehensive visibility and management of security policies across hybrid environments, there is an opportunity to further expand its intelligence capabilities.""In an environment that is very large, with many firewalls and routers, it is sometimes impossible to buy all of the licenses.""It would be easier if the network maps could be updated using the GUI portal instead of from the OS.""I would like to see continued expansion to other firewall versions, platforms, and vendors.""There could be certain improvements such as supporting secure email."

More AlgoSec Cons →

"I would rate this product an eight because it's a good product but it needs more work. They should fix some of the bugs.""We would like better integration with the standards on the market. For example, with OSPF, their integration in NSX is very low. It's not a full OSPF integration. It is too thin from a protocol perspective.""The price is rather high.""The integration with other brands is not the best.""One drawback is this solution requires a lot of other products in the VMware ecosystem to have a full end-to-end operation orchestration monitoring. You have to buy a lot of add-ons to fully utilize the functionality.""Just being more knowledgeable about the different functions.""Quite a complex solution.""We would like tenant segmentation available in future releases."

VMware NSX is a full-stack network and security virtualization platform that enables the virtual cloud network. NSX provides a software-defined process for networking that expands throughout cloud frameworks, data centers, and application structures. Users can join and secure applications within their container and multi-cloud infrastructure and their data center. With robust automated provisioning, the platform offers dynamic flexibility and scalability without compromising on network speed or agility.

VMware NSX recreates the whole software network model so that users can create and deliver apps quickly and securely. Users can customize security policies and leverage IDS/IPS to block against lateral threats. These security policies can be managed throughout private and public clouds from one pane of glass, no matter where your applications run. By consolidating networking and security tasks into a unified platform, users can save up to one-third of their budget.

    VMware NSX Use Cases

VMware NSX brings the operational model of a virtual machine to users’ data center networks and revolutionizes the foundations of network and security operations. There are a number of use cases, including:

    • Containers - Similar to VMs, users can offer unified, full-stack networking and security for microservices and containerized apps. This includes the ability to micro-segment, use container networking for Kubernetes, and offers complete visibility for microservices.
    • App Delivery - Users can deliver infrastructure as code while also accelerating app delivery with blueprints that can automate the management of security and networking resources.
    • Security - With zero-trust security in public and private cloud environments, users can reduce attacks, lock down critical apps, and design a logical DMZ in software.
    • Load Balancing - Users can update their data centers from legacy load balancers to software load balancers and SDN automation, creating savings of over 50%.
    • Multi-Cloud - Expand networking across clouds and streamline multi-cloud operations with multi-cloud use cases, including rapid workload mobility, seamless data center extension, and multi-DC pooling.
