Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution has been very stable.""The agentless architecture has minimized our software footprint at the client level.""I have found all the features useful in the solution.""It has helped us to provide comprehensive data protection with high recovery rates and a malware scanning feature."

More Asigra Pros →

"So far, Avamar covers everything we want. We are replicating to other sites for disaster recovery, so it's working well for us.""The product is very powerful and offers very good performance.""What I found valuable in Dell Avamar is the deduplication feature. I also like that the solution can be integrated with Data Domain.""I like Dell EMC Avamar's compression of data.""Stable and scalable backup and recovery software, with good technical support.""All the features in the system are highly valuable.""We have seen huge data reduction and data deduplication and compression, which is very cost-effective and cost-reducing for the company.""Client deduplication."

Cons
"They should improve the malware scanning capabilities, extending it to protect cloud application data.""The management could be a bit better."

More Asigra Cons →

"Its ability to back up very large objects can be improved. In terms of new features, they can include the ability to use cloud services, like S3, more natively.""Setting up Avamar wasn't so easy, and we had a partner doing the installation for us. Though it was hard at first, it's getting better. The main difficulty was finding plugins for Oracle Database. It took some time to open a ticket with Dell, but everything was fine after that.""When we used the solution, it was still new, and so the customer service/technical support was not the best.""It was challenging to back up our Exchange database, which is one of the reasons we did not continue using this solution.""I have found the support from Dell EMC Avamar to be not as good as Veeam. The time it takes to receive support could be improved. However, once we have the support the agents are knowledgeable and helpful.""The recovery is a bit slow.""The UI is quite old. We've been using this UI since last year, and they haven't changed it. It would be better to update the UI periodically and create attractive dashboards from an administrative point of view.""The interface could be more helpful for people."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Asigra is priced competitively, but requires technical expertise to operate, optimize, and maintain its services."
  • "The price of Asigra could improve, it is expensive. We have purchased an annual license."
  • More Asigra Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is very expensive. It's a trust based licensing. So that's an ethical challenge."
  • "This solution is less expensive than Veeam for us, although it depends on the customer because we get a great discount."
  • "I'm not sure, but perhaps the pricing could be done better at the moment."
  • "The price is the main thing I'd like to see them change. If they can come down in price, that would be a good thing. It's very cost competitive in the entry level range, because Veeam pricing is much cheaper than Avamar."
  • "It was approximately $70-80,000 when it was under support, but right now EMC has not been supporting this product for two years."
  • "Licensing was generally on a per VM or terabyte basis. They changed their licensing model a couple of times and turned it into socket-based licensing, which is an improvement in their licensing model."
  • "When it comes to competition the price is not what is important, it's not the problem."
  • "The price of this product should be lower."
