Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The way it tells you which codebase is more ready for the cloud and which codebase is less ready is very valuable. It works seamlessly with most languages.""The most valuable features of CAST Highlight are automation and speed.""CAST Highlight is easy to use and has a good dashboard.""It offers good performance.""The most valuable features of the CAST Highlight are the interface and there are three notations that are very simple to understand and communicate with."

"GitLab's best features are maintenance, branch integration, and development infrastructure.""It speeds up our development, it's faster, safer, and more convenient.""The user interface is really good so that helps with huge teams who need to collaborate.""The most valuable feature of GitLab is its security.""We use the Git repository and tagging feature. We are a product-based company and use this solution to move to a forward or backward tag.""I like that it's easy to deploy our services over GitLab. The customer support is also good with a really active community. You have a lot of support that you can get online with your stack. That is probably one of the benefits of using GitLab. It's also really fast.""It's a great toolbox where the CI/CD pipeline is the fundamental component, but there are so many other features that you can pull from, which makes it a very powerful tool. My current client is using AWS, and they can, of course, use AWS CodePipeline, but GitLab is much more mature than that, and it also gives you the freedom to decide to go to another platform or have a multi-cloud strategy and things like that. That freedom for me is also very valuable.""As a developer, this solution is useful as a repository holder because most of the POC projects that we have are on GitLab."

Cons
"The ease of configuration and customization could be improved in CAST Highlight.""The reports that describe the issues of concern are rather abstract and the issues should be more clearly described to the user.""There's a bit of a learning curve at the outset.""CAST Highlight could improve to allow us to comment and do a deep analysis by ourselves.""Its price should be better. It is a pretty costly tool. They have two products: CAST Highlight and CAST AIP. I would expect CAST Highlight to have the Help dashboard and the Engineering dashboard. These dashboards are currently a part of CAST AIP, and if these are made available in CAST Highlight, customers won't have to use two different products all the time."

More CAST Highlight Cons →

"We would like to have easier tutorials. Their tutorials are too technical for a user to understand. They should be more detailed but less technical.""I've noticed an area for improvement in GitLab, particularly needing to go through many steps to push the code to the repository. Resolving that issue would make the product better. My team quickly fixed it by writing a small script, then double-clicking or enabling the script to take care of the issue. However, that quick fix was from my team and not the GitLab team, so in the next release, if an automatic deployment feature would be available in GitLab, then that would be good because, in Visual Studio, you can do that with just one click of a button.""There is room for improvement in GitLab Agents.""GitLab can improve by integrating with more tools, such as servers with Docker.""When deploying the solution on cloud and the CI/CD pipeline, we have to define the steps and it becomes confusing.""The solution does not have many built-in functions or variables so scripting is required.""The integration could be slightly better.""This solution could be improved by adding modifications such as slack notifications."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "CAST Highlight is an expensive solution. However, CAST Highlight is less expensive than the CAST AIP, but it remains too expensive and the professional services from CAST are also too expensive. The high price is part of the problem with the CAST solutions."
  • "It is a pretty costly tool. A lot of customers are resistant to using it."
  • "Basic support is included with the standard licensing feed but it can be upgraded for an additional cost."
  • "CAST Highlight is an expensive solution."
  • More CAST Highlight Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I think that we pay approximately $100 USD per month."
  • "The price is okay."
  • "It seems reasonable. Our IT team manages the licenses."
  • "Its price is fine. It is on the cheaper side and not expensive. You have to pay additionally for GitLab CI/CD minutes. Initially, we used the free version. When we ran out of GitLab minutes, we migrated to the paid version."
  • "It is very expensive. We can't bear it now, and we have to find another solution. We have a yearly subscription in which we can increase the number of licenses, but we have to pay at the end of the year."
  • "I don't mind the price because I use the free version."
  • "We are using its free version, and we are evaluating its Premium version. Its Ultimate version is very expensive."
  • "The price of GitLab could be better, it is expensive."
