We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Cisco Infrastructure is one of the top vendors and no one can beat them in terms of switching and routing.""Cisco UCS has different layers of security, and you can do multiple installations of your LIAMs on top of the server and Blade. You can install VMware, Windows Server, Hyper-V, etc.""Ease of management is certainly the most valuable feature in this product.""What I like most about Cisco UCS Manager is the ease of administration. It also allows the central management of maintenance, installation, and configuration activities.""When one server fails, we can attach the service profile to a new server, which saves a lot of time.""The flexibility and the ease in which the features can be expanded are the solution's most valuable aspects.""The reporting functionality will give you any report you want.""From a usability and functionality perspective, Cisco UCS Manager is very good."

"We can see which fiber links have been used heavily and, if they are used heavily, we can introduce more links to particular buildings or particular areas.""It is a user-friendly solution.""The scalability is good. You can improve a remote host or the clustering. This gives it the flexibility to monitor another infrastructure remotely.""It allows us to directly add individual VMs independently.""The alerting is the most valuable feature. I also like the iPhone app. I get alerts in an email on the iPhone app.""I really love the activity library. It gives the flexibility to discover data and metrics about my interface and data server.""It is a central solution in terms of how to actually use it. It has a very easy dashboard. Everything is concise. We are able to create custom sensors. For different parts of the business, we have many products across many environments, and it works for everything.""PRTG Network Monitor's best features are its flexibility, ease of implementation, user-friendliness, and intuitive interfaces."

Cons
"I would like to see Cisco UCS optionally work as a hyper-converged system because right now, it only operates as a converged system.""Its user interface can be improved. It can be more user-friendly.""There is room for improvement in the software part of Cisco UCS Manager. It should be more user-friendly, especially when creating policies.""What's lacking in Cisco UCS Manager is the performance dashboard. If a blade has any performance issues, you should be able to create a dashboard on Cisco UCS Manager. Currently, this feature isn't present.""The installation and upgrade sytems need to be improved.""Cisco UCS Manager should have a simplified deployment in the sense of not having multiple machines, demilitarized zones, and on-premise options.""Cisco UCS Manager is not a scalable solution because once you have 160 blades, it cannot be expanded more.""The automation within the solution needs to be simplified."

More Cisco UCS Manager Cons →

"This product can be improved by updating the net flow interface. The one that is in place works – I can get all the information I need from it – but it is a little bit clunky.""When using PRTG Network Monitor it is beneficial if you have prior experience with it, the user interface could improve.""PRTG does not allow us to scan devices like we can scan software or another problem in it. Also, I cannot draw graphical graphs in Woodview/look. Another problem is that we cannot draw a good diagram in PRTG.""The operations dashboard is only available in PRTG's enterprise version, but I wish it could be accessed in the standard licensing. It would also be nice if PRTG had templates for dashboard monitoring, software monitoring, etc. It can help me set up a dashboard because now we don't have a template from PRTG, so we need to create one from scratch.""This solution is a good product so far, but I haven't been using it long enough to know how it could be improved.""We would like more cloud native sensors for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc. A lot of businesses are moving in that direction, so having something where we can pull performance stats out of these cloud services would be great for us.""Sometimes, our PRTG Network Monitor system crashes and a lot of sensors go down.""PRTG could use reporting tools and mobile alert tools. It should be easier to diagnose and respond to problems from a mobile device on the go."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
