Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features are its scalability and Amazon S3 compatibility because we can move back and forth with a hybrid cloud.""The cost was the main reason we chose to use this solution.""It is very durable and that is particularly important.""The tool has S3 capability. Its scalability is excellent. From a security and encryption perspective, the solution supports SSL encryption. It is a seamless solution offering data encryption, quality service, and security encryption."

"They have very good tech support who always answers our questions and troubleshoots our issues. They're great.""The most valuable features are the data deduplication, the inline compression/compaction, and the encryption as well, the security aspect of it.""With the NetApp Data ONTAP Cluster, we get some features that are particularly helpful. For example, we can always add to and remove nodes from the cluster. The ability to move volumes online from the storage side, from one aggregate to another aggregate, or from one node to another node, keeps up the performance which helps us a lot.""The initial setup and deployment were straightforward""You can scale the product up or out.""ONTAP has improved my organization by lowering budget costs. Deduplication, compression, compaction, SnapMirror, SnapWall, the transaction happens from one to the other. It's serving our needs just as expected.""Efficiencies such as Flash Cache and Flash Pool allow us to make better use of slower, cheaper storage and have some faster storage sitting up front taking a lot of the caching and the reading. The way that has been optimized for the NetApp platform is better than the competitors. It has reduced our cost of storage because we're buying cheaper storage for the bulk capacity, which is really effective.""I love the replication technologies which keep a customer out of risk. At any time, we can do a seamless failover/failback, and have the latest data on it. The SnapVault is another excellent feature. It's used for remote disk-based backups so we don't need to depend on tape backups with their long restore times."

Cons
"Cloudian HyperStore needs to incorporate AI and predictive analysis. It would be helpful if the solution could analyze and predict how to manage data better. The end users should not have access to protected documents. They should be able to drop the documents. The capacity management dashboard can be better. We also want two-factor authentication using Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator as MFA. Hence, the user would access the console not just by logging in with a password and username but with third-party applications as well.""It is a cloud-based environment and at times, it is not very simple to use.""As it is an S3 solution with the same protocol as the one we have with AWS, having better integration with AWS will be beneficial."

"I would like to see more evolution towards the cloud.""They need centralized controls.""It is not as good as we need from a performance perspective. At the moment, we are always running out of CPU on the controllers, even the high-end solutions.""If you do the initial setup manually, it is a bit difficult for someone who doesn't know.""We had a few small issues with setup, but once everything was done it just worked.""While the data efficiency features are great, I want to see more efficiency and compression type of technology.""Technical support is good but they can take some time on critical problems.""I would like to see more integration into the cloud, as we are pushing to do more cloud-based compute. It is just easier to get the storage and everything synced up there and move to the cloud. We want NetApp to keep down the cloud integration path. It still needs some improvement. Overall, there needs to be more cloud integration in all NetApp products."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our fees are approximately half a dollar per gigabyte."
  • "The solution is cheap."
  • More Cloudian HyperStore Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "We save a lot because of the deduplication and compression."
  • "The solution has helped us reduce the overall cost of storage by doing an OPEX agreement with NetApp, we are paying based on utilization. Instead of fronting 30 petabytes worth of storage, we are paying for what we're using."
  • "Recently, we have seen ROI."
  • "They could reduce the price."
  • "It's not an all inclusive model. You have the option to purchase modules to make the entire ecosystem coherent. I would like the option to pay one price and get everything all inclusive, like OnCommand."
  • "The data compression and deduplication have kept us from buying more disks these past three years."
  • "We have been able to save about 3TB to 5TB of storage. We still need to do more on the compression bit, then provisioning, to save more going forward."
  • "The product costs an arm and leg; it's expensive."
