We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Risk factors can be adjusted for all intricate details.""t has a very user friendly status bar with common errors and has logs built in to the console so we can review the issues or status of CrashPlan.""Security tools: Being able to monitor data going in and coming off our endpoints. Seeing what it is and where it's going is awesome.""The solution is very stable. Very rarely do we have any issues with it. We don't have to deal with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. We find it to be reliable.""It had the ability to preseed by sending in a data drive and could restore by sending the user a data drive.""There are a couple of things. One of them is that they have what they call Incydr. Their detection and response solution to the insider threat area is called Incydr. That gives visibility to the clients that have widely dispersed employee bases due to work from home, or that had a dispersed workforce predating any of the work from home requirements. Even though they might not be inside the organization physically, they're inside the organization. It allows us to get some visibility into what people are doing, what the context is, and how to control what might be the potential for intellectual property theft or file exposure.""Low system overhead, setting retention policies, ease of use""It required very little ongoing maintenance once setup."

"Traditional archiving. One of our revenue streams involves maintaining archives of our customers' data for very long periods of time.""The main feature of this product is a flexible architecture and functionality that allows you to solve problems of any complexity and scale. Most importantly, it is not just a product that simply makes a backup, but it restores and saves a large number of services in critical situations. By the way, it works fine with different types of clouds, supports S3.""The D2D2T archive of my PACS data improved after I put Spectrum Protect 8.1.4 into production.""It helps our customers protect their data, especially with stuff like ransomware, compliance, and regulatory requirements.""We are able to run it in an enterprise quite easily with one or two resources.""You can scale the product.""The tool proves invaluable in scenarios where systems need recovery, such as restoring damaged data.""IBM support is friendly, knowledgeable, and they always respond quickly. They've always been able to find the cause of my problem."

Cons
"More security would be nice, I would love to be able to remotely brick a stolen laptop and it's hard disk drive (HDD).""What I think could be improved is how I get support.""I think one we can improve is the compression.""I would like to see more flexibility on privileges, perhaps create another kind of admin for regions. Also, I would like the ability to access logs without having to be on the actual device or a super-admin.""You can't always filter out data that you'd like to.""The application, written in Java, required far more system resources on a Client than other solutions.""Reporting could use an overhaul. It is very limited.""There doesn't seem to be any feature that is lacking."

"Our new leadership has pushed us to go more toward the cloud, so we are definitely going to leverage anything we can in that direction.""Its management part can be better and simplified. It is kind of a beast as compared to Commvault or Veeam, but they are more user-friendly. They are also easier to learn, whereas Spectrum Protect definitely takes time. They should simplify it. Our teams are pretty comfortable with it because we have been using it for a long time, but from the perspective of a new user who is evaluating or using this solution, it is definitely more complex in terms of manageability. Its monitoring could be improved so that it can even monitor the jobs that are scheduled by external schedulers. There are situations where a database team might decide to use their own schedulers, but currently, Spectrum Protect is not able to catch those jobs in the Operation Manager console.""There needs to be a bit more automation.""IBM Spectrum Protect does have a lot of the features that we need, but I think they need to improve their backup virtualization and backup for container.""Probably educating the virtual group who are not as used to the product. Most of our expertise is with AIX servers and virtual server backups.""It needs BMR (bare machine recovery) solutions for both Windows and Linux systems.""They need to do a better job on Windows, because if you are running Windows, the scalability is more limited than AIX and Linux.""They should have a proper technical support team serving the customers and get issues resolved earlier."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "They were the best solution and surprisingly enough, the cheapest."
  • "It is 100% worth the cost to get and keep the support, especially when setting it up."
  • "It used to be a good solution for SOHO in particular as it had unlimited storage for a reasonable price. However, their pricing model has changed and they are now primarily targeting enterprise users."
  • "The pricing is reasonable. It's my understanding that the cost is about $7 for unlimited storage in the cloud per server."
  • "It was expensive. It was more expensive than Eureka, and it was more expensive than Barracuda Backup, but what we got was a full team. They didn't come in and nickel and dime us. They provided the assistance we needed. They didn't say that they need to charge us for something or it is going to take another statement of work. It was all bundled into it... We pay for the software maintenance. It is probably 18% or 20% of the license fee for rev releases."

  • "Technical support is pretty good. It is doing fine, but you pay for it."
  • "Licensing can be either complicated or simple depending on what type of licensing you wish to use and what works best for your environment."
  • "At scale, the consumption license (per TB) is very expensive."
  • "Use capacity licensing. It's easier and cheaper."
  • "We worked our licensing into a capacity model, which is nice. Now, everything is much simpler to manage from a licensing perspective."
  • "We chose IBM Spectrum Protect, because they actually have something called MSP pricing, which means managed services provider pricing. The pricing was attractive, and it seems to be a platform that IBM is totally investing on in terms of new functions and new capabilities."
  • "Spectrum Protect is not expensive, and it is simple to use."
  • "It is very scalable, but the downside is that it costs money."

    Overview

Detect file exfiltration via web browsers, USB, cloud apps, email, file link sharing, Airdrop, and more. See how files are moved and shared across your entire organization – without the need for policies, proxies or plugins. Incydr automatically identifies when files move outside your trusted environment, allowing you to easily detect when files are sent to personal accounts and unmanaged devices.

Incydr prioritizes file activity based on 120+ contextual Incydr Risk Indicators (IRIs). This prioritization works on day 1 without any configuration. Incydr’s risk scoring logic is use case-driven and transparent to administrators. Incydr uses Watchlists to programmatically protect data from employees who are most likely to leak or steal files, such as departing employees.

Take action with appropriate responses to contain, resolve and educate on detected risk. Use Incydr Flows or SOAR integrations to initiate response controls that are proportionate to an activity’s risk severity. You’ll stop data leaks without getting in the way of employee collaboration and sanctioned file activity.

Improving your Insider Risk posture requires a change in employee behavior. Code42 Instructor provides bite-sized training to employees, delivered when they need it.
