Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Its stability is the most valuable.""The features that I have found most valuable are that it is good to use, and most importantly, the pricing. The customer especially likes the discount when they trade up or something like that.""The most valuable features are the enterprise modeling and the simple interface.""Their interface is very easy to use, it is without bugs.""The IPsec tunnels are very easily created, and quite interoperable with devices from other vendors.""The next-gen features, the unified threat management capabilities are something that just about everybody is interested in at this point.""Fortinet FortiGate is a security device. It can optimize security on the networks of a company. It actually protects the company from attacks from outside. With FortiGate, you can categorize the users. You can create a group of users that can access all of the websites for their work. You can limit other users' access.""The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiGate are the ease of use and there are several operating systems that can include the hardware capacities. In the newer releases, the resources were more useful because they were included in the operating system."

"Our clients choose CloudGuard as a natural progression of their solutions. They understand Microsoft and CloudGuard fits.""The Capsule solution and application filters are the most valuable. It is pretty straightforward to implement, and it also has good stability and scalability. Their technical support is also really good.""The program is very stable.""The visibility, the one-pane-of-glass which allows me to see all of my edge protection through one window and one log, is great. Monitoring everything through that one pane of glass is extremely valuable.""The tool's most valuable features are inspecting internet traffic and IPS. We can manage the firewall using shared policies from a single management server.""CloudGuard's intelligent tools help us automate many manual security tasks, guaranteeing our customers' environments will be secure.""Check Point is one of the few solutions that pay attention to cloud security. Many others mostly focus on providing on-premises solutions.""The feature most valuable to me is the NDTX blade that Check Point provides, and I like how the solution is not vulnerable."

"The interface is user-friendly.""I like the SSL VPN connection. Cyberoam works well for controlling users and authenticating their connection to the internet.""The port forwarding is good.""The VPN is excellent on the solution.""The solution's interface is user-friendly, and the web protection is good. The tool is highly stable. The product is scalable. The technical support is good. We chose Sophos Cyberoam UTM because their focus on security research is higher compared to other brands. It's an all-in-one solution with antivirus, EDR, wireless protection, and web protection integrated into one box. The initial setup was straightforward.""It is a VPN that serves all your needs as an application firewall.""We are using it as a security shield. It does not allow access before that in case we have restricted a few things from users, so it helps me in that.""The best feature is the flexibility the product offers, in terms of remote access. What we had before was a decentralized mechanism in our organization, but after having this product we were able to get the remote locations into the same LAN. We were able to control the bandwidth and were able to take virtual access of those machines and give them the support, as and when required."

Cons
"I would like to see improvements made to the dashboard and UI, as well as to the reporting.""Application management can be improved.""Usually, we sell the bundle with the UTM or threat management piece with IPS, IDS. Other providers, such as Palo Alto, are ahead in terms of safe functionality. So, for me, delivering truly safe service is probably something that still needs to be improved.""Fortinet FortiGate is a stable solution. However, my issue is the performance only. When I use all the profiles, this affects the performance. From the beginning, I should have had a better sizing of the box.""We were not able to build a full-mesh VPN; however, I am not sure if this was the fault of Fortinet FortiGate.""NGN, reporting and controls.""Fortinet FortiGate could improve by having more capabilities for troubleshooting VPN connections. For example, I do get some feedback about the current status, but I could use some history and logging of important events. The information is logged in our Syslog server, but I could use that information from the device. If they could provide a GUI to have some more insight on what's going with my VPN would be useful.""Its reporting and pricing need improvement."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"This application can be more integrated with web application firewalls. Better integrations would provide more granularity, which would be helpful for focusing on the application itself and preventing attacks. It would be good to include the cross-domain search. If you have multiple firewalls that are managed on the same platform and you want to check who is using some particular objects or where a specific ID is being used, it should provide an option for this kind of search instead of having to check one by one on each firewall.""Lacks the ability to integrate with other security solutions.""It's meeting our needs at this time. If I could make it better, it would be by making it more standalone. That would be beneficial to us. I say that because our current platform for virtualization is VMware. The issue isn't any fault of Check Point, it's more how the virtualization platform partners allow for that partnership and integration. There has to be close ties and partnerships between the vendors to ensure interoperability and sup-portability. There is only so far that Check Point, or any security vendor technology can go without the partnership and enablement of the virtualization platform vendor as it relies on "Service Insertion" to maintain optimal performance.""The solution's integration with cloud providers has seen significant development in the past months, but there is room for improvement for better integration.""At the cost level, the solution is somewhat expensive.""I think they have pretty much mastered what can be done. There are some nuances like when you fail over from one cluster member to the other, the external IP address takes about two minutes to fail over.""The product needs to improve technical support.""Its price is fair, but it can be more favorable."

More Check Point CloudGuard Network Security Cons →

"The blocking needs to be improved.""The solution had a feature to import users from a CSV file. However, the latest version does not have that option.""Its scalability is not that great.""Needs a mail alert/notification when the device loses any of its connections, during ISP redundancy implementation.""I would like to see real-time alerts on traffic insights.""While the security features are excellent, they could be improved.""I have problems with the email filtering. Emails pass through without any filtering affecting them. When I get back to them and tell them this is the issue, they check everything and say it is not in their database signature and they have to update it. But you know, by that time, my user has already opened it.""The VPN needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
  • "The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."
  • More Fortinet FortiGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "On average, it is normally on the lower end, being less expensive than Palo Alto or Cisco."
  • "It is more expensive than other solutions and would be more competetive in the market if it came down in price."
  • "We pay approximately ‎€150,000 ($166,000 USD) per year."
  • "Licensing is simply by the number of hosts that you are looking to protect within your environment. It makes it much easier to ensure that you are covering your environment."
  • "There is flexibility in the different licensing models that are offered."
  • "The pricing is pretty high, not just for your capital, for what you have to pay upfront, but for what you pay for your annual software renewals as well, compared to a lot of other vendors. Check Point is near the top, as far as how much it's going to cost you."
  • "Pricing of CloudGuard is pretty fair when you have a single account. It's comparable with other cloud providers. But for our use case, it got really pricey when we had to deploy multiple CloudGuards on multiple accounts in different regions, because you can't have CloudGuard protecting multiple regions. That's the big thing."
  • "The pricing and licensing have been good. We just had to do a license increase for our portion of it. We had that done within a couple of days. Given the fact that it's purely a software-based license, it ends up being even quicker than doing it for an on-prem firewall."
  • More Check Point CloudGuard Network Security Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is very reasonably priced as compared to other solutions in the market."
  • "Licensing is a bit costly, mostly for features requiring subscription."
  • "Licensing is very good value for the money."
  • "It is more expensive than cheap routers, but it offers a lot of functionality, and that warrants the price."
  • "The price is very competitive and the licensing is easy."
  • "It’s value for the money. It’s functionally competitive with higher priced alternative brands."
  • "It is worth the value."
  • "Prices are very high."
