Q&A Highlights
Question: Which PAM tool do you prefer: CyberArk Privileged Access Manager, One Identity Safeguard, Delinea Secret Server, or BeyondTrust Privileged Remote A
Answer: Based on your extensive list of requirements, CyberArk Privileged Access Manager appears to align well with your needs due to its comprehensive feature set, strong security controls, integration capabilities, and advanced analytics for privileged access. However, it's important to conduct in-depth evaluations, demos, and discussions with each vendor to ensure that the chosen tool meets all your specific needs and integrates seamlessly into your existing infrastructure. However, I recommend visiting the official website of Broadcom (the company that acquired Symantec's enterprise security business) or contacting their sales representatives to get the most up-to-date information about their PAM solutions, including any rebranding or changes that may have occurred. When evaluating any PAM solution, it's essential to consider factors such as security, integration capabilities, ease of use, vendor support, scalability, and alignment with your organization's specific needs and compliance requirements. It's also a good practice to request demonstrations, proofs of concept, and references from vendors to ensure that the solution meets your expectations. Remember to involve key stakeholders, such as IT, security, compliance, and management teams, in the decision-making process to ensure alignment with organizational goals and requirements.

Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Number one is the password vault; it's very good. Number two, they have a feature for remote desktops that are created on a per session basis, which is very good for security.""I have found most valuable the automatic scheduled password rotation and remote desktop monitoring. Additionally, the documentation is readily available and easy to find and the dashboard is straightforward.""The secret template, password rotation, and recording sessions are the most valuable.""It works for us.""The most valuable feature is session monitoring.""The surveillance is most valuable.""Its technical support is good.""Ease of use because of its monolithic software."

More Delinea Secret Server Pros →

"The system is easy to manage, as it is not a system that you will change everything all of a sudden. It evolves most of the time with customer requests.""The first feature I like about One Identity Safeguard is the live contact point for the VPNs. This has been working very well for us, as it's both highly available and reliable.""The most unique and valuable features are the upstream and downstream throughput capacities; the Safeguard platform provides agile integration. In actuality, all the features are valuable. They're good, user-friendly.""The Transparent Mode is the number one advantage of the product.""Being able to use a proxy server is an advantage.""The technical support is tremendous.""The extensible framework for authentication is one of the most valuable features. We use an MFA plug-in and a lot of different factors, depending on what the business use-cases are. And of course, the auditing functionality is also valuable.""The transparent mode for privileged sessions is one of the best things for customers, because they don't see the system in-between."

Cons
"In many PAM tools, when users request a password checkout, they need to provide justification. However, in my experience across four organizations, nobody actually reads the justifications. Users can simply type anything and get the password. This becomes a risk and compliance issue. There needs to be continuous improvement in this area, focusing on problem identification and mitigation strategies.""As I am partial to CyberArk, I rate Thycotic Password Reset Server as a nine out of ten, owing to the minor glitches I mentioned.""We find the documentation hard to understand.""The API is no good.""One thing that I wish they would do is to have a Kubernetes or container-based deployment supported, but they're not quite there yet. Containerization or support for containerization would be fantastic.""The solution could be more user-friendly.""One of the things that we want is to be able to do some of the management of it using APIs.""I would like to see improvement with the integration with Azure Active Directory. This would mean that we can have support on multiple platforms such as Windows, Linux, and Mac."

More Delinea Secret Server Cons →

"The main thing that needs improvement is the slowness. Apart from that, the change password check-in feature also needs improvement because it is not working perfectly accurately.""Something for One Identity to look at is having integration guidelines for how to logically group accounts.""Support for One Identity Safeguard could be improved because sometimes the support team doesn't have an answer or solution for some bugs. A feature I found in a competitor would make One Identity Safeguard better, and that is the ability to load balance the traffic in the target.""The GUI has room for improvement because it is confusing and cumbersome.""Even though we have two nodes, there's no way to do an upgrade without taking everything completely offline. It would be nice if they could improve that.""I would like to see an adjustment with more enterprise architecture. You can buy multiple appliances but you can not fully separate different functions, so scaling might be a bit more complicated.""There is room for improvement in the launch module. They built in a launch button but they don't have effective instructions for configuring it to allow it to launch an RDP session. They're working on that, but the button is in the live product. If they were going to install something that wasn't useful, they should have just disabled it and not rolled it out with the product.""I would like to see support for RDP over HTTPS so this product can be used in conjunction with the Microsoft terminal."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It isn't terribly expensive."
  • "The price of this solution is good."
  • "The pricing is standard in this business and we have no complaints about it."
  • "Its price is okay. We don't compete on pricing. We seldom use price to win over our competitors. We prefer it this way because if we can sustain the price, we make more margin as well. We don't want the price to go down to the bottom where despite the win, there's no margin at all."
  • "Secret Server is expensive when compared to the cost to some alternatives."
  • "There are different plans and additional licensing costs that can be instituted for add-ons."
  • "There is an annual license fee per user and the price is fair."
  • "They are priced quite well."
  • More Delinea Secret Server Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Setup cost, pricing and licensing are all very expensive."
  • "Our licensing costs are on a yearly basis."
  • "It was definitely cheaper than the other two products that we evaluated."
  • "They offer a fair price for a robust solution."
  • "The full license is expensive but if you plan to use it in a big organization then it is the best option because it is more flexible."
  • "It is a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. You don't want to get anything too cheap because then you get cheap stuff and cheap support. That really never helps anybody."
  • "The pricing is about $80,000 per 100 servers. There are few elective costs."
  • "We have a yearly license. The cost depends on how much a company wants to invest in technology. In our organization, we believe in modern digitization and automation processes so we found it affordable. One Identity was not that much less than other solutions and it is not a cheap solution. There were number of cheaper solutions. However, it's the most effective, according to our evaluation."

Hello Avinash, it all depends on the timeline and urgency of the project. If you need to deploy a PAM tool that focuses on standing privileges, stopping lateral movement, and incorporating Zero Standing Privileges as part of Zero Trust, then please consider looking at Remediant. I've worked for BeyondTrust and have gone up against the other big players such as Delinea, Centrify, CyberArk, and HashiCorp. They more or less all offer similar solutions, but looking at your current requirements, Remediant really excels in delivering a simple, yet very effective tool in a matter of days and weeks, not months and years.
